Three suggestions for new RAF series (3 Viewers)

To me to convey the spirit of the conflict and those dark days when Britain and the Commonwealth stood alone, the range could expand to take in a number of elements that would be a fitting tribute and discussion point:

London Firefighters in the Blitz

The work of the Royal Observer Corps

Air Raid Wardens (ARP - Hodges!)

The brave Women of the Auxillary Transport Fleet, who risked life and limb ferrying Hurricanes & Spitfires to front line airfields

Sir Archibald McIndoe and his Guinea Pigs

The stirling contribution of the WRAF

A German invasion barge manned and ready to take part in Operation Sealion

A collection of aircrew from all nations who served gallently in the defence of the United Kingdom such as members of Eagle Squadron, The Poles, Czechs and others from Soth Africa, Rhodesia, Australia and New Zealand.

Air and ground crews diving for shelter during another raid on an RAF airfield

Ok, a bit more than three suggestions but such an expansive range can tell its own story.

Wonderful stuff,i would love Andy's range to include the above superb ideas.Firefighters,Home Guard,ARP,Civilians,Police,Bomb disposal would make for a fantastic Home Front range. The recent 'For you Fritz' set is excellent, really spot on and its this sort of thing that could be so evocative of the Battle of Britain/Home front/Blitz.

I know one thing for sure what ever they do its going to sell well in ENGLAND..............:),maybe a ashes urn.....:D

Excellent suggestions, really good. The Table idea would be so good,we could even have a figure of Churchill studying it.

Rob

This is a brilliant suggestion.

How about a set with Prime Minister Winston Churchill visiting the operations room of 11th Group HQ at RAF Uxbridge on 16 August 1940.

The set could include Major General Hastings "Pug" Ismay (Chiefs of Staff Committee), Air Chief Marshal Hugh Dowding (Commander, RAF Fighter Command), Air Vice Marshal Keith Park (CO, 11th Group RAF).

In the Battle of Britain, 11th Group was responsible for the defence of the London area and the South East of England. The 11th Group HQ was at Hillingdon House. An underground operations room was built nearby for overall command and control of the fighter squadrons.

Cheers, Raymond.:)

Spot on Raymond, this is just the sort of thing i meant,it would be so cool.It would be,as someone said earlier, the Allied version of Hitlers staff meeting.

I hope Andy may think this idea could be a winner.:)

Model of plane burning on fire, with fire Engine and figures with hose to go with it!

And.....let's see......maybe a fuel truck, or model of a Hangar!:D

I can picture the table.Big,covered in maps, with WAAFs in Helmets moving aircraft on the table. All this watched as has been said by Dowding and Churchill. This would be stunning, simply stunning.

Thanks very much Craig,

The "Battle of Britain" 11th Group Operations Room at Uxbridge has been restored and is now a private museum.

As this is on an operational RAF base, visits have to be pre-arranged and there is a waiting list.

Here is a link for more info:

By the way, the WRAF is a wax figure.

Hope you find this of interest.

Cheers, Raymond.:)

You don't seriously worry that a Spitfire won't be released? :D I would be willing to bet you get your wish with the next RAF release. ;) As you note, it is essential to any Battle of Britain discussion. It is the quintessential RAF plane, and, in the wood warbirds (both past and present) it is the most produced K&C aircraft. Don't worry, my friend, Andy will not dissapoint.

With all due respect Louis, where is the Desert Sherman?

Yes a plane burning with a fire crew putting it out. I guess you all know where I stand here
