Trophy ACW (1 Viewer)

Very nice Martyn and those boats are to kill for Tommie. What did you say your address was again ^&grin

Those boats are some of the neatest things I have seen. Beautifully displayed, too. -- Al

Excellent boats Tommy:salute::

I believe there are two add-on sets for The Leopard

"Prone firing" and "Sailors in action"

and three for The Eagle

Infantry firing, Infantry loading and Mississippi Marine Brigade

Cheers

Martyn:)
Thanks Martyn, Brad and Al. It is interesting that Len made more of the Eagle and it has 3 add-on sets. The rarest, The Lion, doesn't have any, nor does the Victoria.

Wow! Every now and then - something in the TS World pops up - and justs hits you straight between the eyes. Those two Trophy boats from Tommy's collection - a little bit further back in the thread are a classic example. I had NO idea Len ever made something as beautiful as those. They are simply wonderful. Beautifully kept and displayed too Tommy. Well done len - and well done you. Thanks for letting us see them. johnnybach

I can see why Tommy, they're absolutely beautiful and would be the highlight of any collection.{bravo}}

Although outside of the ACW thread, these are the other three I have. I am still looking for the Arab Dhow. Glad you enjoyed them. Thanks.

Thanks Johnnybach for those kind words. Scroll back one to see the other three.

When I was a lad - I lived in Cardiff - which is just next door to Penarth, where Len lived. During the summer months, There were Paddle Steamers which went from Penarth Pier and Cardiff Docks - and went across the Bristol Channel to Weston-Super-Mare - on the English side of the channel - as a day-trip excursion. I can see where Len may have obtained some of his ideas from for some of your models, Tommy - as those side wheel paddle steamers look very like them. I have a picture in one of our bedrooms of one of them. I like those - the best. jb

This is a picture of "The Westward Ho" sailing down the Avon Gorge - underneath The Clifton Suspension Bridge. I think you may be able to see the similarity from this picture.

Thanks Jeff. Martyn has the good sources and has acquired some really nice and rare sets and individual figures.

Tommy - quite a few of those excursion paddle-steamers went to Dunkerque during the early years of WW2. This would seem to be a good opportunity for someone with modelling skills to have produced one loaded with troops being brought home to the UK. Do you know if Len ever made one??? jb

Not to my knowledge. Except for his civilian series, WWI was the cutoff point.

Okay - thanks for showing the boats you have anyway. It was just a thought that occurred to me when I first saw Tommy's boats - made by Len.

If any budding model maker out there should ever think of making one up - I'll just add another picture of one of the old Bristol Channel pleasure boat fleet.
This one is of The Glen Gower - shown here standing off Dunkerque, all those years ago - with her decks crammed, not with holidaymakers - like my earlier picture - but with rescued soldiers. What a story these old boats, many of them long gone now, could tell! johnnybach
