Thank you Tommy, I look forward to the pictures:salute::

Martyn: Note the different sporrans from yours and different kilts. Wellington wouldn't let the Highlanders wear their sporrans so this must be Crimean War.

Hi Tommy

Nice figures, but the mystery deepens.

They appear to be wearing the tartan of the Seaforth Highlanders but they were not formed until the regimental reforms of 1881 which amalgamated the 72nd Regiment, Duke of Albany's Own Highlanders and the 78th (Highlanders) Regiment of Foot to form the 1st and 2nd Battalions of the Seaforth Highlanders. I am not 100% sure about different tartans but I am sure there is someone reading this thread who can help clarify the situation.

The 72nd fought in the Crimean War but the 78th were fighting in the Anglo-Persian War of 1856 - 1857

In the meantime I am still on the lookout for the drummer and piper:wink2:

Cheers

The tartan is MacKenzie of Seaforth, and those chaps are the 78th. At this time the 72nd (Duke of Albany's) were wearing trews of the red Prince Charles Edward Stewart Tartan (Different than Royal Stewart). In the 1850s the 78th wore the white sporran with six white tassels. Sometime after the Mutiny they switched to the white with two tassels.

Cheers,

Sam
