Playing with my Trophy figures again. Lieutenant Charles Pope who Commanded the only Company of the 2nd Battalion 24th Regiment of Foot who took part in the fighting at Isandlwana seems to have the upper hand...The Lt.

Great figures. Great toys. I am working on an officer of the 24th. That one came out anyways. Going to the show in the am.

On a side note; would it be reasonable to expect Britains to do something similar with their glossy range? If I'm not mistaken Trophy's H2H sets were among the most popular sets. And they fit the Zulu war very well.

I would say it should be mandatory

Got a hunch guys that WBritain will.

In the mean time it looks like Lieutenant's Pope luck has run out.....The Lt.

That particular LT Pope is a resilinet chap. I am sure I have seen him at Rorkes Drift as well. He must have escaped from Islandwana to Rorke sDrift liek Adendorff

I know this is a Trophy line but since you started.... the Little Legion line has some great new figures H2H wise. Well new to me:eek:

There are some cool Trophy sets on ebay. Charge of the Light Brigade and such like.

I thought I would post some images of the Victoria Steam boat for those of you who are bidding. I went down to the garage and got it out. I couldn't find the canvas cover and teh tower and funnel etc. I was sick with worry as I thought that maybe it had been thrown out. I even got grumpy with my wife. Can you believe it. I had it packed away so well I almost forgot where it was.

It still needs more guns and maxims an..an..an..and rockets....an ..an ...sandbags ...and did I say more guns..Must get ship now! Michael

PS..YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED TO HAVE THIS RARE PIECE IN STORAGE AND YOUR WIFE SHOULD SMACK YOU FOR IT AND YOUR GRUMPINESS AND IT SHOULD HURT AND LEAVE A MARK:eek:

Damian, If your wife has not rapped your knuckles yet, in inches, what are the dimensions of the Trophy ship so that I can build a replica. My ship is probably only 1/2 the size of this piece...Michael

I feel ashamed enough as it is. Trophy made three Nile boats. One was an Arab Dhow, one a small gunboat and this which is really a civilian steamboat ferrying old Tommy Atkins along with the swells. Usually the other ranks would be below deck but when there is an emergency then nothing is good enough for Mr Atkins

I went into a public- 'ouse to get a pint o' beer,

The publican 'e up an sez, "We serve no red-coats here."

The girls behind the bar they laughed an' giggled fit to die,

I outs into the street again an' to myself sez I:

O it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy go away";

But it's "Thank you, Mister Atkins," when the band begins to play-

The band begins to play, my boys, the band begins to play,

O it's "Thank you Mr Atkins," when the band begins to play.

I went into a theatre as sober as could be,

They gave a drunk civilian roo, but 'adn't none for me;

They sent me to the gallery or round the music-'alls,

But when it comes to fighting', Lord! They'll shove me in the stalls!

For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy wait outside";

But it's "Special train for Atkins," when the trooper's on the tide-

The troopship's on the tide, my boys, the troopship's on the tide,

O it's "Special train for Atkins," when the trooper's on the tide.

Yes, makin' mock o' uniforms that guard you while you sleep

Is cheaper than them uniforms, an' they're starvation cheap;

An' hustlin' drunken soldiers when they're goin' large a bit

Is five times better business than paradin' in full kit.

Then it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy 'ow's yer soul?"

But it's "Thin red line of 'eroes" when the drums begin to roll-

The drums begin to roll, my boys, the drums begin to roll,

O it's " Thin red line of 'eroes," when the drums begin to roll.

We aren't no thin red 'eroes, nor we aren't no blackguards too,

But single men in barricks, most remarkable like you;

An' if sometimes our conduck isn't all your fancy paints,

Why single men in barricks don't grow into plaster saints;

While it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy fall be'ind,"

But it's "Please to walk in front, sir," when there's trouble in the wind-

There's trouble in the wind, my boys, there's trouble in the wind,

O it's "Please to walk in front, sir," when there's trouble in the wind.

You talk o' better food for us, an' schools, an' fires, an' all:

We'll wait for extry rations if you treat us rational.

Don't mess about the cook-room slops, but prove it to our face

The Widow's Uniform is not the soldier-man's disgrace.

For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Chuck 'im out, the brute!"

But it's "Saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot;

An' it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' anything you please;

An' Tommy ain't a bloomin' fool - you bet that Tommy sees!

I'll go downstairs and get a tape measure.

You had this beautiful piece in storeage in your garage. Pardon me, but what a terrible waste. It is much to fine to be warehoused.

Thanks for the photos though -really nice.

Dick
It is in temporary storage. We are in the process of moving and building/buying a new home in Pietermaritzburg. It will be displayed in a prime location there I can assure you.

Damian

Thanks for the clarification. I should have known that a collector like yourself would haven't burried this treasure in some dark and damp garage.

My compliments on a wonderful piece. Truly a centerpiece for any collection.

Just admit it: the stuff in your garage is worth more than most of us have in our entire house. :D

The dimensions in cm are
lenght 90 cm
Max width 20 cm
Height 10 cm
I don't have a tape measure in imperial units. I will try to borrow one

Once again my friend Damian you've provided us with another major gem from your Trophy Treasure Chest thanks for sharing it. It's a beauty and wish it had followed me home from the Dedham Show this past Sunday. I didn't leave the show by myself three Zulu Warriors followed me to my Land of The Zulus....The Lt.
