Trophy - zulu war sets (3 Viewers)

2nd Battalion, 24th Regt. of Foot

Recently arrived in South Africa, they haven’t had time to dye their helmets before they are thrown in at the deep end.

Remnants of the 1st Battalion, 24th Foot, even having dyed their helmets it didn’t do them much good.

Look out, there’s more over there!!!!!!!

I don't collect gloss or Trophy but I have really enjoyed looking at your photos. You must have a really large collection of Trophy figures!

1st KING’S DRAGOON GUARDS

Stupid me, I can’t count there are 7 Troopers:eek:

Dumb question perhaps, but I was reading on the web "british battles" and for each of the battles it gives a listing of regiments at each one. However it doesn't mention the 1st Kings Dragoon Guards anywhere that I could see. Which battle did they take place in?

Thanks
Scott

Scott,
A total of 24 KDG made it to Ulundi and charged out with the 17th Lancers. All the rest were left along the supply line for defense of the rear. But don't worry, the KDG were the ones that captured the King at the end of August!

Thanks Mike

I went back the site and read more under Ulundi and sure enough they were mentioned in there. Maybe I should be getting some glasses not troops LOL

Martyn,

That is a very nice and impressive firing line. I am envious, but I do enjoy seeing your wonderful Trophy sets.

Hi Brian

I thought it was about time I pictured my 2/24th.

Glad you like the picture

NATAL NATIVE CONTINGENT

It would appear a lot easier for the NNC to remove their red marking and blend in with the attacking Zulu than their Officer:eek:

Martyn,
Another nice diorama, I like the grey haired gent in the back.

Seven of the figures are from a Trophy Dragon Crest set, he is the Officer commanding the 6 NNC figures in that set.

Martyn,
I have doubles of the NNC set by Dragon Crest also! I love 'em. Do you know anything about Dagon Crest and what makes it different or unusual from the main Trophy figs? They look the same (if not better) to me. Thanks for any input you may have!

As I understand things, a lot of the Trophy Colonial stuff ( Sudan , Egypt, Boer War, India etc ) was deleted in the late 1990's. Together with Maison Militaire these were rebranded and relaunched in 2001-2002. They were essentially all the original Trophy stuff with new bases ( round or oblong type diorama bases rather than the green square bases). Some of them were also painted in matte.

Damian

Many thanks for that info;)

Mike

These are the only Dragon Crest figures I have unfortunately.

Trophy of Texas have a large list of Dragon Crest that used to be available. There are no pictures with the list though.

Cheers

Damian,
First off, nice sets and a great desert dio! ....Why no other Zulu period colonial except for NNC? It just never rung correctly with me, but then, I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer:eek:

Martyn,
Glad to have you in the same boat! We'll keep rowing 'till we find the answer!
Mike

I think the colonial stuff had not been selling well. The AZW was selling like hotckaes so Len decided to drop the colonial stuff. I think Ken Jackson of Maison Militaire then went into some sort of joint venture with him to redo the colonial stuff as Dragon Crest. I bought the matt Boer War figures from Maison Militaire. The desert dio belongs to my good friend Auguste. Those are Sudan era Trophy figures with square bases. As for the NNC well your guess is as good as mine. I personally never knew Trophy made them until Joe posted some on one of his posts. Trophy needs a good catalogue like teh one Norman Joplin did for WB.

Damian,
Thanks as always, and on the concept of a catalog for Trophy, I concur wholeheartedly. I would presume others feel the same.
