True Detective (3 Viewers)

I watched the first two episodes and it's a bit of a drag. None of the characters are likeable. The plot is wildly implausible. Tired feminist undertones. Is this 2024 or 1924? I'm still watching but not with a lot of enthusiasm.

I’ve watched the first two episodes and like it so far. The two principal actors are terrific.

The third episode dragged except for the last 5-10 minutes. Don't think it's up to par with seasons 1 and 3 but we have 3 more episodes to change my mind.

I wonder why they only have six. All prior seasons had eight.

Must be enough to wrap up the storyline.

I'm using the FF button more and more. The same tired tropes in every show. The indigenous people are noble and the victims of oppression. The white males are abusers and drunks. The plot is wildly implausible even trying to suspend disbelief to watch a TV show. Imagine the defense attorney who is told that the victims were taken to a hockey rink to thaw and every person in town was allowed to gawk at the bodies. The only star of the show is the dark and cold of Iceland where it was filmed. I'm waiting for the climate change spin as the solution. Mother Nature taking revenge on mankind...

This series is just too weird for me; people wandering off into the snow, a guy buried in ice up to his neck is alive, police officers driving drunk to go get laid, others getting beat up with no arrests, people seeing ghosts and boogiemen, just too weird and goofy.

That said; I've wasted 4 hours of my life watching, 2 more won't make a difference, the "killer" reveal (if there is one) should be a real treat.

I haven't watched episode 4 yet but I agree with you.

There is good weird and there is bad weird. There is a reason that the original creator of this series has characterized this season as "stupid." The big reveal has to be a tired woke explanation about pollution/climate change taking its revenge on the white man. The mysterious mother nature "she" getting revenge for all the wrongs of white men. The 1970s were full of such silly movies where the greedy corporation polluted the environment resulting in some type of monstrous creature who kills everyone except the liberal whistleblowers and Native Americans. But at least those movies didn't take themselves too serious - "Prophecy" is a hoot.

I was one of the 14 people who saw that movie at the theater, Mother of God was it awful.

Food of the Gods is another one, Empire of the Ants, Kingdom of the Spiders, Frogs, Squirm, on and on it goes, Mother nature gets back at all the mean white folks.

I’ve liked this series. Not sure I’d classify it as weird. One thing I’m glad about: not having to live in the Artic north.

Those movies were great and they had a winning formula. There is a scientist who is brought in to investigate the source of some mysterious incident or killing. He begins to suspect it is caused by pollution from the local factory and tries to warn the authorities. They are skeptical. The rich old white guy who runs the factory makes light of the concern because he is greedy. At some point, the love interest of the scientist is threatened by the mutant creature but he saves her at the last minute. Native Americans are consulted. They know all about whatever is going on and have some spiritual explanation that makes no sense. Eventually the mutant goes completely rogue and is tracked down by the scientist and killed. The final scene leaves open the possibility of the existence of other such creatures.

I have enjoyed this season so far while trying to figure out the delusional visions that some of the characters have.

It is not a sci-fi series so my first thought is that those pieces of the story relate to mental illness.

On a side note it is perfectly cast.

Looking forward to the season finale tonight, there are so many unanswered questions, it should be a good watch.

When all was said and done, I found this season to be boring and idiotic. The plot and final reveal were laughable. On the upside, it was only six episodes and didn't drag this out any further. I couldn't take many more shots of cars driving through the darkness and snow.

Well,
have reserved comment til I finished this one. I watched it. After all said and done, it was for lack of a better word - dumb. The ending and resolution. Dumb. I just don't know how else to characterize it. It was one of those train wreck type of series, I kept watching b/c I couldn't look away, but I certainly will not remember it by next week.

I found the season to be a good one. Enjoyed it quite a bit. Not as good as seasons 1 and 3 but still very good. The last episode was terrific.

I’m hoping there is a season 5.

I took it to be a little far fetched but overall good acting. I wouldn't watch again.
