Tough crowd. The show was overly complicated and there were too many coincidences. It had its moments though. I ended up liking the Frank character. I assume he didn't give up the jacket because he had put the diamonds in the pocket. It came off though like he had had enough. All the parental angst particularly father-son was more effective than the mystery. A bit of a mess but interesting in some places.

I agree about Frank. Found him the most interesting. "Spoiler Alert!"-- Was hoping that the writers would have had enough imagination to allow at least one of them to get away with the ill-gotten gains. The Mexicans came out of nowhere after Frank was clear and the other just had to see his kid one last time (who didn't see that coming?) after he was clear. Don't understand how come he didn't dump the transponder and the tail and be done with it. And the female cop has a baby after the getaway, straight from the 'oldest cliche in the business' bag o' tricks. Jeesh. Just thought the last episode was uninspired. -- Al

Agree

The issue was with the writing. The plot was overly complicated at times so you got a bit lost in the details. Sometimes, the writing was not very good. However, I thought the acting was pretty good by all around. I think the Velcoro character let himself be killed so that he wouldn't have to spill anything about Besserides; it was probably the only good relationship in their lives.

I am not defending the ending, it was a real let down for me. However, the first season was so good there was no way the second was going to live up to the hype.

A new season is upon us! One review that I saw indicated it is pretty good.

I've cancelled the others but kept HBO until Game of Thrones is done.I will watch True Detective as I thought the first one was excellent and this one is suppose to be good.I was reading about the GOT prequel and I don't think I'll be watching it. It sounds highly PC touting diversity than about the show.GOT was very diverse but they just used the best actors that fit the parts whether they male female black white or in between.

That was one long wait and too late for me as I cancelled HBO long ago.:( -- Al

I'm done with cable, got my latest bill, it jumped 60.00 a month, they put a note in saying "You may have noticed a slight increase in your bill this month...…………"...……..a 30% bump is "slight" then?

They can kiss my ***, I dumped all the movie channels...….adios cable, got the bill down under 200.00, as in way down below 200.00.

I'll watch all the movies I want to watch on Netflix instead.

I dumped my Cable system a short while ago for the exact same reason … albeit not quite as bad. They went up $22/month on the bill and I actually GOT LESS .. … since they re-structured the package contents. If I wanted to get back to where I was I would have to pony up over $44/month from what I am (was) paying in December.

I now have the BASIC system ($16.month) and have added Netflix ($8.00/month) and Amazon Firestick.
With the changes, I have 3X the options as I had last month for a 60% reduction in cost.

The death of the cable industry wouldn't bother me a bit. For the last few months DISH has be arguing with the included package stations and their contents. I lost months of viewing and they didn't drop my bill 1 cent.

I am also DONE with cable / Satellite or what ever. I have to many good books and Blue Ray / DVD's on the shelves.

I watched the first couple of episodes and they were decent. The plot is a bit like the first season. Interesting that the main character is black and although the show is set in the south, race is mostly a non-factor so far. Which is surprising for Hollywood but a good thing in my opinion.

I'm up to the fourth episode and things are dragging. The acting is decent but the story is moving at a snail's pace and jumping back and forward and in between. It does remind me of the first season which was great but this one is missing the mark. Still better than the standard TV fare.

Agreed, plus they're giving away too much of the plot unless I am putting 2 and 2 together and getting 22.

It may be moving a little slow but I think (hope) it will be worth it.

I'm actually enjoying the pace of this series. I think the producers have got the pace just right. Investigating crime is mostly hard yakka, digging about for intel that often makes no sense and leaves more questions than answers.

I'm so sick of the brainless, predicable, bubble-gum police CSI type rubbish they often dish up and call it entertainment. Its pure fantasy and rarely factors in the hard work and tireless hours it can take to progress an investigation.

Looking forward to the next episode.

I'm liking it myself...
the pace seems adequate to me...
I like the characters...
especially Mahershala Ali as Wayne Hays...

Yeah, Im waiting for Game of Thrones to end too before I make a decision. Our providers MAKES you get a telephone line, charges you for it and it HAS to be apart of the cable package. We don't even have a home phone system, but we have a number. Its stupid. Plus, the Science channel and military channel are extra? What the hell? Cable companies have always pissed me off, so Im with you George and Larry.

Anyway, I will check out True Detective.

Cable is a ****ing rip off, plain and simple.

My provider bundles the movie channels with ID, which is a great channel, a lot of 48 hours/20/20/Dateline/who dun it type shows...………….what balls bundling that in with movie channels, so if you drop HBO, you lose that channel too...…………….con artists.

This show is jumping around so much it is hard to keep track of the characters. Particularly when they suddenly show up decades later. It seems to be trending toward a letdown ending with some sort of implausible mega conspiracy. Some decent acting and scenes but the plot is almost as convoluted as Westworld.

I agree that it’s jumping around from 1980 to 1990 to 2015 (the present) but I’m not having trouble following it, although what we’re following is unclear since we don’t yet know what happened in 1990 and how it affects in 2015. That, in and of itself, makes it odd.

I read an article when the season started that the negative reception for the second season was not completely justified in that the acting had been very good.

True Detective may be a series you have to rewatch to appreciate.
