Great looking plane?.... YES ; Price? .... Ridiculous ; Will I be buying? .... No.

Well I'm obviously swimming against the tide here, but I am most certainly in. Yes its a lot of money, but here's how I go about it. The Typhoon is something I've wanted since the Poly's were launched, as an adult I know I cannot afford everything as funds are limited, so I shall get the Typhoon, Bowsers, support staff etc and put off other purchases for a while. With the wealth of choice we have these days I find I have to often make these decisions anyway, the RAF range has in a matter of a year or two gone on to become one of K&C's best and one of my personal faves and I now have almost every figure/set, so this is also natural progression for me. I may not buy much else between all these releases and the end of the year, but I sure look forward to seeing these on a dio base in my office.

I think as soon as you figure that you cannot collect everything and go with what you like instead of trying to be a completist , things become much easier. It took me a few years to accept it , but now it gets easier and easier and I get great enjoyment from the items I do buy. Just my view and way of going about it you understand:smile2:

Welcome to the club. {sm4} It's all about choice. There is no question we can't buy as many items as we used to. And no trend runs forever, so at some point prices will stabilize - the question being when and at what level.

Good post mate :wink2:

Thanks Neil, did I read you are leaving the hobby?

Rob
I don't think I have much of a choice mate with my partner of work looking after the baby & me getting a £9000 pay cut next month don't think it would be fair to be spending lot of money on this hobby but I'm happy with what I've got :smile2:

Yes I can see your problem there Neil, hope things improve for you soon.

I agree that the RAF series is superb and I collect it too, but I won't be getting the new Typhoon. Plain and simple, it's nice but just too expensive. I got the two different hurricanes and a couple of RAF figures for what I would pay for the Typhoon, so it seems out of kilter to me. I know it is larger, has more detail, rockets, bombs, etc. but I just can't justify two or three months' budget on one piece.

It's not looking good for the upcoming Albatrosses, price-wise.... I was expecting about £200 for these but I wouldn't be surprised if they were a lot, lot more.

I got concerned when I bought the RAF ambulance and Tilly as I thought they were great but maybe 15-20% too expensive.

Like a lot of people on this forum, I will need to think long and hard about vehicle and warbird purchases and accept that my hard-earned cash won't buy half the K&C stuff it did just a couple of years ago. I'm earning about 3% more than I was 2 years ago (same job, one inflationary adjustment last year, nothing the year before) and accept that K&C prices need to go up, just not quite so much!

Quality, subjects and range are all better than ever so no complaints there and it's a free market so fair play to Andy. I have also seen some great value older pieces / sets on e bay lately and get the feeling a lot of collectors are trimming down collections, so I might divert some of my budget in that direction.....

......just my humble opinion and thought process.

Neil, hope things turn out ok for you. That is a heck of a pay cut to absorb. Hope that you will continue to post. -- Al

Neil mate,

Hope things get better for you. Sometimes real life gets in the way of our hobbies.

Cheers,

Well the UK price for the Hawker Typhoon Is £362.95 make it cost more than the bigger Figarti He 219 ^&confuse

near 400$US for a polystone plane...

Look this week I bought this HMS victory 38'' long by 36'' high by 12'' wide all made with wood and linen plus some metal and resin parts... for 450$ at a local auction including taxes and fees.. (you can find some on the net for twice this amount).... this boat took at least 100 hours of work to complete... and it's plank on frame construction so no cracking will occur...

Really, no polystone crappy planes for me..

Alex

I wouldn't equate an one off buy as a measure of value. I am sure many on this forum, including myself who can recall a great purchase relative to anything.
P.S. I like all my "crappy planes"

one thing's for sure, in 5 years people will be kicking themselves for not getting this plane....
