I disagree, respectfully, Jeff, I think it's valuable, or at least valid, in that a customer described a customer service situation and his opinion based on it, and the merchant responded, both of them very civilly.

The unfortunate part of the thread-but not necessarily unexpected-is that some folks chimed in with ad hominem attacks of various intensity. But the moderators seem to have kept on top of that activity.

But it may have run its course, and so perhaps could be locked down.

I posted this out of my own thought process and decison, nothing else.

The personal attacks, well.... enough said.

Nothing I ever post is a personal attack on any manufacturer, it is simply my experience or my opinion. There is no malice towards this line of soldiers.

Gazza, picking and choosing my quotes to respond to is your right and opinion, I just think that some of that can be out of context. I have dealt with the owner directly and received a reply that reaffirmed my decision. It wasn't hostile on either part, just matter of fact.

I too have the first three sets in Normandy.....and found them very well done ...I did order the next three sets though a dealer .....if I find them to expensive and find the range is getting out of control ( I do like the Hormandy paratroopers )...I will only buy what I feel I like no pressure.....
 
Same as Oz I collect the Normandy sets,they really are spot on.Now if I could just persuade Tom to do them all in Crete uniforms I'd be a happy resident of debtors prison!;)

I don't have a problem ordering direct but I am not going to pay all the S&H cost of buying from another country.

Oh welcome to our world we have to spend HUNDREDS to get free shipping not 50 bucks or whatever it is in the US.
 
I'm not in any way attempting to counter the perspective of tdubel, who initiated this post - actually my post doesn't address the issues tdubel raises at all really. I'm just offering my own experience on customer service from Thomas Gunn, which I found to be very good. I, like many, received my first MG set with the weapons bent, one beyond repair. His first reaction was 'no problem, I'll send you a new one', but unfortunately, as it was a limited set, so no ready replacement available. So instead I got offered a free set from his later releases (which I think are great by the way!) AND he's organised a replacement MP40, painted, from the factory to repair my first set. I think this is great service.

I know that this isn't strictly on-topic with the dealer vs direct and limited numbers strategy debates, but I think it is evidence of a guy starting out in a new business and genuinely going out of his way to try to look after his customers.

Now all he needs to do is issue some sets in Crete colours ... :)
