USS Bunker Hill diorama - In progress (2 Viewers)

That was such a good buy Zach. Having seen the carrier at Chicago I know how much better it looks in person.
And YES that Nikon is insane.

Thanks guys.
Larry the backdrop is a photo I found printed on a glorified sheet. I don’t really know what the material is but knew I needed something big.

Zach,

That's simply incredible!! Thanks for sharing this. You did a fine job in setting up the whole thing and what stands out to me the most is the lighting.

The mood created by the dim, grayish lighting seems appropriate somehow for what might be coming as they prepare for battle. Well done!

That's amazing how you found a sheet with the right background print on it. You definitely needed something big for this diorama and that is perfect.

Absolutely epic, Zach!^&cool^&cool^&cool^&cool^&cool I was sorely tempted when I saw the center portion of the Carrier at the Chicago Show last year, but I am absolutely out of room.:redface2:

I just saw you said the length in your original post.Sorry to have bothered you on that.

True every aspect is being considered allowing a realistic deck layout. Certainly is a stunning display. Films like Midway just enhance the whole series. Robin.

ZACH ... how did you get those figures?
I didn't think that they are even released yet?

I saw that the Moto-Tug was released but these ... ?????????

JEALOUS!!!!!! :p

Must have been some bad Maine scallops or something because I had some hallucination or seizure that ZACH had all these incredible new BH figures.

Just outstanding to see these figures in color. It's hard to wait patiently for their release. These will be very welcomed additions to my flight deck operations

It DOES keep getting better and better!!!

Beautiful display Zach and nice arrangement of everything.

Thanks for posting.

In November 1944, my father got a ride home on the Bunker Hill. His airgroup was being rotated out (Airgroup 15 - Essex).

On November 20th, the Bunker Hill left the Ulithi Anchorage and sailed east, reaching Pearl Harbor around the November 28th. After a few days shore leave, the Bunker Hill left Pearl on December 1 and sailed to Puget Sound and the Bremerton Shipyards arriving around the December 7th. At Bremberton, she received a series of significant upgrades and weapon improvements. She left Bremerton on January 24, 1945 and sailed back to the Western Pacific. On May 11, 1945 she was struck by two kamikazes and heavily damaged. Some 390 were killed and another 265 were wounded. The Bunker Hill returned to the Bremerton Naval Yards and was still undergoing repairs when the war ended. In late September 1945, she sailed back to the Western Pacific and was used as a transport for returning servicemen.
