Vectis Auction for the Lt. (1 Viewer)

Here's a Trophy Rourke's Drift Auction for Joe. A little pricey, though

Thanks Brad for passing it on but got to see it early yesterday AM. The Auction House I'm sure had something to do with setting the price. It's way out of this poor boy's price range and it'll be interesting to see what it sells for. Must say it looks very impressive and I plan on contacting them for larger photos for a better veiw and will pass them on if they respond. Once again thanks Brad and hope all's well at your end.......The Lt.

Why not buy a replica sword? They were used in the Sharpes films which featured Seán Bean. Vectis are selling quite a few Napoleonic era film props.

Vectis sent Joe several pictures of the set, which he forwarded to me, so here are a few.

Over the pass several months I've been feature my battle of Rorke's Drift by setting up individual mini Dio's. With the The Trophy's Dio being auctioned off on e-bay I thought I put together a complete Dio starting with the defenders. I'll be posting all of the photos I've taken of it in my Zulu War Thread on a daily bases until all of the photos have been shown.......The Lt.

Lt.

Really cool seeing your guys together on the big screen.

Simon

That looks really great and it flows nicely. Are they a mixed of matte and glossy figures?

Alex there is only one metal figure by Frontline of the Reverend Smith. The bodies of the Conte Zulu figures where left unpainted with the Shields feathers etc. painted matte and Simon just like in the movies.........The Lt.

Hi Lt.,

Your battle scene is outstanding! Truly ourstanding! Wonderful work!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

I've spent some time reviewing the photos of the Trophy Diorama being auction off on EBAY and have decided to comment on it. The only features that remain true Trophy are the Hospital and Commissary Storehouse along with some of the non figured pieces that were provided in both set. The Storehouse is missing one of it features being the stairs which lead to the second floor. All of the figures with the exception of the Trophy figures appearing on the roof have had their bases painted taking away their true value as a collectors item . It's a shame for all of the figures from the Storehouse featured the individual names and service numbers of the VC and DSM winners. Not being a hundred percent accurate in reviewing all of the figures appearing in the Diorama I estimate less than 50% are by Trophy with figures by Little Legion along with painted kit figures from Tradition and Hinchliffe and others that are unknown to me. Both the Abandon Hospital and Storhouse retailed at over $1,100 and along with several additional Trophy Sets and including the additional figures would be valued you between $1,800 to $2,000 in mint condition. The Trophy portion of the Diorama is not mint. The above comments are mine only and can be taken as a grain of Salt. My bid on it would not be more than $1,000......The Lt.

I would second that assessment LT. Most of the figures are not Trophy. They are a mixture of Little Legion, ANI and Trophy as well as soem which I don't recognize. The stairs are missing from the Storehouse. I would think 1700 pounds is a bit much. Painting the bases is a big no no as well.
The Lt's diorama is much better but he is not selling that.

I went back and looked at the listing and it says Trophy and Similar, not exactly deceptive but not exactly crystal clear either. I'm sure anybody wanting to spend that kind of money would have done what Joe did: get more pictures, which gets me to my next point: if I were going to spend that kind of money, I'd rather have Joe's, which is an incredible diorama, museum quality.

Boy I would take the Lt's Rorke's Drift display over Vectis' any day. What a great diorama! If you are interested, I found Trophy's first Rorke's Drift listing in a "catalog" from 1 August 1992:

"This is a Limited Edition of 200 sets:

Included is the facade of the Storehouse and veranda; this is hand cast using a number of materials.

Also included are a two piece mealy bag redoubt with firing steps on the inside. Three sections of stone walling, plus a generous assortment of battle debris.

DEFENDING we have twenty four figures, each specially sculpted for this edition - this includes the eleven Victoria Cross winners plus four Distinguished Conduct Medal winners. They can be identified by their Regimental number and name on each base. The remaining nine figures represent other soldiers in volved in the defence.

Boxed Set. Price //pound sign// 261.54"
