The debate about what the Nazi's were or were not is not the issue. its the rather emotive and insulting manner you postulate. I don't need your pity thanks very much
Mitch

If you are suggesting the Nazis were not scum I feel sorry for you.... ;

Insulting Nazis is now PC is it? I'll go back to ignoring you now....
Wayne.

It has nothing to do with PC perhaps you should review the emotive and unnecessary commentary in relation to the war than blame it on PC. The rather black and white good guys and bad guys is simplistic but, if you wish to choose to be that way then at least do it without the over emotional insults that may sound good as sound bites to some but, obfuscate the complexity of the matter.

You and a handful of other members insist on refering to all Germans in WWII as Nazis, that is far more emotive and unnecessary than your assertion.

How could I ever confuse you with Rob, he understands the significance of Anniversaries.

Mitch, you said the following which is a clear indication that you agreed with Rob's viewpoint on that matter:

"There seems a bit of testyness about terminology today. Rob from what I have seen has consistantly called them Nazi's so, I see no harm. The Jagdpanther is set up as Hohestaufen and or, Frundsberg so, they were the epitome of Nazi ideology the SS.

I don't think much should be read into the use of words as it would mean a wider historical debate about the actions of what some deam as Nazi and some link with the Heer and would only end in fisty cuff's and such like.

Its a very common way to refer to the germans in this country from 39-45"

Jeez guys, I'm taking a break AND STILL somehow involved in arguments!!!!^&grin:wink2:

Just thought I'd answer this one as my name has popped up like a bad penny! I do understand what Oz is saying here and also in a way what Mitch is saying. I have ALWAYS thought that those who were REAL Nazi's should be called such and always should be, those who designed the Holocaust and carried it out were as Wayne has said the scum of the earth (although Wellington thought the British Army were at Waterloo:wink2:) its laughable to think they were not .However, there has always been in this country (since the War) a tendency to label all German forces ' Nazi's '. ' How to destroy a Nazi Tank'...' Look that's a Nazi Plane' etc etc, now this is understandable at the time as your average Joe in the street is not going to stand there and say ' Here comes a Stuka, but lets not label it in case we are insulting the pilot unfairly' is he! But of course not all the German forces were Nazis and many despised Hitler and his ideals and cohorts.

To be fair I don't think I've ever actually said all Germans were Nazi's, if I did guys it was stupid and plain wrong, but they did fight for that terrible regime and whilst they were all not in the same toilet as Hitler,Heydrich et al if they sometimes all got lumped together then compared to what was going on at the time its not the worst thing in the world. What I guess I'm trying to say is that we all know they were not all Nazi's but it is also understandable if those suffering at the hands of said regime described them as such (and may still to this day). But apologies to all if I gave the impression I that a tarred all with same brush, I certainly do not now. (oh god I'm not mellowing am I ?!!!^&grin)

Whilst here I want to A) say Hi to everyone , including those I was arguing with before I left . I'm sorry for my part in what went on.B)Thanks to all of you who sent messages of friendship,I really appreciated that. Please forgive if I do not answer any reply to this post but I'm enjoying my break from the forum more than I thought and not coming back just yet . I send you all my very best wishes.

Rob

Rob,
So you come back after a month away and your first post is to comment about an argument involving Mitch and Oz {sm4}^&confuse

You do know today was Despatches day ^&grin

Hope all is well.

Answered in the CS area you raised it but, I will put it here for those who are scared of venturing to far south! where do I call them Scum?! How many people joined the Nazi party?? Millions of germans considered themselves Nazi's so, in that respect I understand why people use the terminology I don't agree but, can see why. I also have never called them scum or any other country for what they did in WWII and that includes allied atrocities and, ones committed by the Australian Armed forces.

Its the lump term of scum that is offensive and, if any wish to dilute it down as if we are segregating Nazi's and other Germans we need to remember the storm and offence that this posters last comments about wiping off the face of the earth every German in the bombing raids caused to German members on here and, those who had German relatives. Maybe, he simply means all Germans but, who knows who cares? The term Scum should not have been used and that's what is at issue here nothing else.

Brett...

Not even an argument!!
