Does anyone know if this is a true to life WW1 war movie of sorts or will this be of the "Lassie" variety where the horse himself captures the Kaiser!

Gary,

You ruined the ending! ^&grin

It is based on a children's novel by Michael Morpurgo. It is apparently dripping with sentimentality

Kirk

PS I am going to see it though :)

I should love it then since I am a 64 year old sentimental kid

It just received a nomination for Golden Globe Best Picture. It won't win.
Too many liberals voting.

IF the movie is as good of a story like the book then it should be a hit. I enjoyed the book and it was no "Lassie". Yes, you do cheer for the horse.

I saw the play in NYC and enjoyed the creative use of puppetry/robotics.....at the time I thought a movie would be a good idea.
A good family/children's movie.....but not very believable. For those who want heartfelt entertainment not historical accuracy.

Can't imagine an entertainment industry without Liberals! No political satire and all movies having religious and patriotic themes.....Bringing back "Leave it to Beaver" and "Father Knows Best" (never would have had "2 1/2 Men" and "Modern Family").
Love em or hate em they are entertaining!
NO political agenda here, Democracy needs diversity and debate.

Right! No "Straw-men."

Just read an interview of directer Spielberg who stated there is only 9 and a half minutes of war action in the film.
May have to pass on seeing it now.

Wow Gary, how many minutes do we need? Maybe there's multiple minutes of uniforms, equipment etc as well. Maybe a good story? ^&confuse

I was hoping it's as good a historical film as Conspirator.... JUST KIDDING Brad! :wink2: Chris

Is this a American thing ????

Because it relates to war, it has less of a chance with those who might not be into military history or anything, kind of a straw man argument as Scott so clearly defined{sm4}.

Yes, it is an American thing. I hesitate to explain fully because this thread will rapidly degenerate into a political discussion which will get shut down. I haven't seen this movie yet so I don't know if it has a political point of view. But, it is a point of fact that the entertainment industry is dominated by people with left of center political beliefs. They sometimes use thier influence to create art to push thier own agenda. And they will either not produce, or denigrate art which they feel is coming from the opposite camp. I'll leave it there. Merry Christmas.

Nope..It's "straw man."

My Dear Wife watches some Runway fashion reality show. Fashion people compete and fashion people judge it. It's their world and if you look in as on this show, you can complain about how they do what they do and the decisions they make but it's their world so relax.

You have to take into consideration that the Oscars are an Industry award show that folks NOT in the industry like to watch since the product is motion pictures. In my line, nobody will tune into "best quality control inspector of the year" in the phosphorescent light category.

One case of the movie Saving Private Ryan not getting a Best Picture as a war movie doesn't make a case when Patton got Best picture in 1970 as did Schindler's List in 1993.

Here's a list of war related films that won best picture. They were judged best pictures by movie people.

Liberal or conservative, what does it matter if we can't laugh at ourselves? It's the differences that make it all worth while. I love to laugh and I don't much care who is making me do so. :wink2: -- Al
