War Movie Wish List (1 Viewer)

No need to apologise. I really enjoyed the Sharpe series, but anyone who knows even a modicum about Waterloo would have been shaking their heads, wincing, and groaning throughout that episode.

Indeed but I am content to seperate my knowledge of history from my enjoyment of movies about history. The first is about facts, the second more about entertainment. Frankly, I don't feel as much of a need to have the history in movies so accurate but appreciate whatever they do that is. If juicing up the script with a ficticious love story or fanciful hero and battle detail or so fills the seats and makes the movie about a period I enjoy possible, I can live with that.;)

It was also a made for TV series and not a major box office film like Waterloo so a lot of factual detail had to be lost, either way the French get what was coming to them! :D

True of course and yes you can always count on Richard to dispatch the Emperor's crapoids; tis one of the things we love about him.

Rob....

Their first shot at WWII was brilliant the pacific for me, was a bit of a dissapointment over the whole series. I think they would look at WW1 and, sadly, give it a wide berth.

Its a shame that our film heritage in the UK has gone to the dogs as, when it was an original idea to do a film on the bomber command and, the raids over germany etc the money men made the idea change and we got memphis belle. Which, IMO only was a dire film.

Maybe, HBO may look at African theatre which, would be interesting
Mitch

HBO's 'Passchendaele' ,now that would be right up my street:cool:.

I was really glad to see them do the Pacific series,it was an overdue tribute to the men involved, however although I enjoyed watching it it didn't quite grab me as Band of Brothers did. The battle scenes were very well done but somehow the characters did grab my attention so much,or by the time they did the series was over. But as I say it was good that they made it:cool:

Would love to see a new series about Bomber Harris and the men in his command, another well overdue tribute.

Rob...

Could not agree more about the RAF tribute. I thought the pacific was a bit dissapointing but, anything they did would have been a hard act to follow after band of brothers. Hopefully, they will look south to the deserts as a ten part on that theatre would be a must.

I would be in hog heaven if someone would do a film on the 1916 Battle of Verdun. So many great aspects that could be covered in a mini-series format or a feature film that could center on the fall of Ft. Vaux, the fall or retaking of Ft. Douaumont, or just the human story of the French and German infantry caught in history's greatest artillery battle. Probably wouldn't be much interest outsde France, but I would still like to see it done. -- Al

I would like to see HBO miniseries on the Commonwealth in Burma or North Africa. I would also like to see a well done movie on the Boxer Rebellion in China 1900. It was the first modern U.N. action. The different uniforms and equipment would be great to see.

Battle of Lang Vei would be a good one. NVA tanks involved and all. -- Al

I would like see a film about operation varsity - the Rhine crossing as you got Brit,US,German paras + British commandos all in one battle ,+ it cover land , sea & air :D

Varsity would be a good choice. I would like to see something on the Norweigian campaign a battle which is overlooked IMO winter, paras land troops commandos its got the lot.

In "The Longest Day" the taking of Pegasus Bridge was done very well but briefly. An expanded movie on this action would be very welcome. "Up the Ox and Bucks!". -- Al

A film about the defence of Malta by the Gloster Gladiators "Faith", "Hope" and "Charity" would be nice.

I would be so into that! But not just the early defense with the Gladiators, but the entire defense of Malta, with the arrival of the Hurricanes, the later arrival of the Spitfires, and the struggle of the huge relief fleet, which lost about 1/2 of its ships, to resupply the Island and break the seige.:cool:

Not forgetting the epic of the tanker "Ohio" arriving strapped between two destroyers to keep her from sinking.
