Welcome to the Deep Freeze (1 Viewer)

The "Weird" winter continues here in Maine. We have had dozens of small storms then warm temps.
Waldoboro got 7" - 8" of heavy, wet snow on Sunday.

This morning the temps were 11 degrees {sm2} .. BUT ... by Wednesday they are forecasted to hit 66 degrees. ^&cool

Come on Spring!

Here in south central Wisconsin we are under a winter storm warning and a flood warning from today until Wednesday afternoon. Temps are hovering just above freezing . . . Freezing rain mixed with snow. Ground frozen so there is no where for the water to go, thus the flood warning. Lots of ice predicted making travel treacherous. In for a cold, wet and just plan nasty 48 hours . . . Yeah . . .

The storm that hit this area today was rather bad. Although there was a fair amount of snow, the wind played havoc, downing many trees and power lines. I saw huge trees simply uprooted by the wind. As a result, many roads were closed, leaving no alternate routes. As I write this, the wind is still blowing strongly and many don’t have power.

I lost a cherry tree in my backyard to today’s storm. Luckily it missed my garage, the fence and a car, just blocking the top of the driveway. I’ll post a couple of photos tomorrow.

Nasty up here in Boston. Lots of flooding and trees down. Thankfully my sumps kept up!

Things are getting back to normal and the crews are out but there are reminders of yesterday's devastation all around and power is out in many areas. Our neighborhood lost power around 5pm yesterday and we still don't have it but fortunately we have a generator, one of the natural gas ones. After Sandy, we weren't going to through that again.

Here are some photos of the havoc caused by the wind.

Wow! Just Wow! Noting quite like the wrath of mother nature . . . .

Mike,

So true. Things are being slowly restored in our town. Our power has been restored so the generator has turned off. A generator is like an insurance policy: you rarely need it but it’s great when you need it.

Jeez, I really fell bad for what you guys are going through. Here in southern California we recently had hot and dry temperatures in the upper 80s. We may be on track for having the worst draught on record. We have only received about 2 inches of rain in the last six months. Here is a photo I took on Friday when we received about a quarter of an inch of rain---we will take all we can get. This sure beats the deep freeze and storms you guys have been experiencing.

Some great dio backdrop material here:)

We are supposed to get a second nor'easter Tuesday night into Wednesday. Great!

We are about to get pounded here with a mix of snow, rain, ice and high winds . . . From this afternoon all the way through tomorrow evening. Expected accumulation of 5 inches. Warnings are being aired about severe ice hazards. Schools already closed about 3 hours ago. The snow and rain doesn't concern me . . . now the ice, that's another matter all together . . . .

Good luck Mike. We’re bracing for another round around here.

Just looked at the forecast. We may get anywhere from 10 to 16 inches starting Tuesday night.

You can keep it over there . . . We got about 4 inches of snow yesterday afternoon and into the night. Temp's are going to hover right around 32 F all day today with more precipitation in the form of sleet, rain , and ice. Weather gets pretty sloppy here towards the end of winter.

On top of that, there is snow in the forecast Friday and Monday, how much is still to be determined. There are thousands in the state who still don’t have power. I was driving some back roads yesterday and there are still a few roads closed in our town.

We had some vicious wind last week and are on the boundary between getting no snow and maybe eight inches tonight and tomorrow. March storms are particularly cruel because just when you start to get the feel that you are over the winter hump, you are suddenly back in the mix of it. It can be 80 one day and snowing the next. The end is in sight though.

Meh. It's still winter. As Combat noted, though, the weather can change. The days are getting longer, and what falls won't stick around as long as it might have in January. And going in the other direction, we can still get snow late in April or even early in May. Our last frost can be as late as the middle of May.

Prost!
Brad
