Welcome to the Deep Freeze (3 Viewers)

LARRY!

I got to agree with George on this one...you need to sort out that driveway something fierce. After all these years of ice pack you don't have one of those snow blowers?

John from Texas

Or a heated driveway?

Or a plow for the front of your pick up truck?

Or a dog sled so you can go to the local outpost for supplies?

Or a flair gun to shoot off to let the townfolk know you're snowed in and they need to send Lassie to help you?

Get with the program.

Yeah Larry...what George said.

C'mon man!

Wow ... a tough crowd tonight ...:tongue:

Yep, I have a snowblower, but it is worthless for hard packed ice. Although I don't have a plow on my Silverado, it wouldn't help much for the same reasons that the snowblower fails in ice.

No dog sleds in Waldoboro but we do have a "fleet" of snowmobile EMTs. ^&confuse

If there is a nasty blizzard and someone needs help, just dial 911 and they can get you to a hospital, deliver food, deliver oil/gas or bring an emergency technician. A few years ago, my furnace died at midnight with the temps at -15 to - 20 with a howling snowstorm. Under those conditions you only have a few hours before the house temps plummet and you and the PIPES FREEZE! {sm2} The furnace repairman was "delivered" my snowmobile fixed the issue and saved the day! (or night to be exact!) Actually they are a division of the Fire department and Ambulance service.

However George, I don't think that they would drive me down to Taunton for a Toy Soldier show???{sm2}

Oh ya', Lassie ran away with a French Poodle last year ....^&grin

UPDATE:

The latest local weather has issues a "Wind Chill Warning" for tonight.

Temps with the high wind will reach (or drop to) -45 degrees below ZERO.

Tonight you keep the furnace running, water running in all the sinks, fireplaces stoked .... and generally no sleep tonight as you got to keep a watch full eye on things ...{sm2} :redface2:

Midcoast Maine was about -10 last night and is now -2.

The biggest issue is the "wet" snow we had for Christmas day has turned into a massive ICE pack.
The driveway is a challenge to navigate; I've broken one shovel trying to chip away the ice and my car will now be uncovered until spring.

AND ... we are only 6 days into winter .... {sm2}

I’m with you Larry. I never do this myself. We have someone plow the driveway. No way I’m doing it.

Larry...

it's 54 degrees here and I'm freezing...

you're talking 100 degrees colder than me...

I couldn't make it up there...

If there is a nasty blizzard and someone needs help, just dial 911 and they can deliver food.....................

Good to know if you dial 911 they send you a pizza from Sal's.............I remember when MT and I first moved to Taunton, there was a dam in danger of breaking and releasing a wall of water into Taunton, so I dialed 911 to find out if we were in the danger zone and should we evacuate; the reply "No sir, you're fine where you are..........and don't call this number again, this is for emergencies only!"..........good to know possibly drowning in a flood is not considered an emergency in Taunton, but getting a pizza from Sal's is in Waldoboro..................:wink2:

Mike, 54 Degrees ... {eek3} ... OMG we would be breaking out the Bermuda shorts, tank tops, sandals and heading to the beach ....
Anything over 32 degrees is considered balmy ... ^&grin

No, George, the Elks moved last week as the cold was getting to much for the old one.
But good news ... I have new neighbors who are building their house. Nanook and Garnook are nice folks.
Here they are adding a room. I took this picture today ... :rolleyes:

Looks cozy...............a real fixerupper.

LARRY!

God Lawd...-54 degrees. Ugh...Mike is right about 100 degree difference as in colder, as we around 50-54. Unbelievable! That was cold blooded when BLReed sent that link to Florida real estate. But, I 'm with you on the alligators. My wife wants to retire there and I see the videos on youtube of alligators showing up in your backyard or in your pool. I would be absolutely terrified. Those dudes are no joke.

Did you ever read the story of The Battle of Ramree Island? Ugh...just awful!

Larry man, I don't know how you do it, but I just can't do the cold. I got a heated Makita Jacket for our "winter"...it is pretty slick.

Must come with a pretty long extension cord..................like Larry, I can't do the heat.

When it's cold, you dress a little warmer, spark up the fireplace and get cozy on the couch with a nice blanket.

I find it soothing and relaxing.

When it's 97, 98, all you do is sweat, you can't work in it. I remember one time at a show in PA in July when it was 103 with high humidity, it was downright unhealthy, dealers looked like someone threw them into a pool as they were unloading and setting up.

Nope, you fellas down south and out west can have the heat.........................

I'm talking about the extremes now as St louis can get both. The cold actually hurts. The heat & humidity is terribly uncomfortable. I'll take both with spring and autumn thrown in for the best of both. I think it boils down to what you grew up in.

Totally agree with you George, I live in a warm, tropical environment and I'm tired of the constant sweating during the very hot months. I have to crank up the air conditioning and stay in the house all day or visit my gym, shopping centres/movies etc with A/C. I enjoy when I travel to places that have colder climates as I can get some relief for a period. Someday i'll move to a colder climate and retire there!

Tom, I have a three story barn with plenty of hay. Even has a new roof.
I also have a couple of side sheds and equipment barns for tractors, lawn mowers, etc. {sm3}

You are more than welcome to retire to any of my out-buildings.
You can even bring your Toy Soldier collection, but that can stay in my hobby rooms.{sm4}

I might have to take you up on that offer Larry so long as you can put up with a dodgy Aussie bloke in your barn! {sm3} I'll bring my own bedding though as hay doesn't quite agree with me {sm2}{sm4} Oh and I'm pretty handy on lawn mowers etc as I use them all the time!

P.S. my TS are quite shy so they will have to be put in storage somewhere!!!^&grin
