For once the weather men seem to have gotten it right. Its coming down about an inch an hour, so if the storm lasts through the night, we will get 14 inches. Looks like mother nature didn't get the memo that its now officially spring!{sm4}
 
We probably ended up with a good 10 inches. Enough to close schools and work for a few days. It took a while for it to start sticking to the roads and driveways because of the earlier warm temps which made the clean up a bit easier. It would have been fun to watch "The Terror" in this weather but that will have to wait until next week.
 
They built this one up pretty good, originally anywhere from 4 to 8, then 6 to 12, then a solid 10 was the final call, to start around rush hour yesterday morning and go till late morning today.

It started around 2:00pm and as of 10:34am, we're up to 1/10th of an inch.

Yup, not 10, but 1/10th; schools closed, people told to stay off the roads; well, for once I'm glad they were wrong...............

Weathertainment. Regardless of the severity, beat the drum. Weatherpocalypse. Snowmageddon.

We did get our biggest snowfall of the season, anywhere from 10 inches to a foot, depending on the location in the Valley. But this late in the season, with the days getting longer, and more sun, it'll be gone in a couple of days. It's ridiculous how so many people let the media freak them out.

I don't mean to downplay that people need to be careful, but I just think back to my parents' generation, to my grandparents' generation, and I don't remember anyone getting as panicky about the weather as people are inclined to be today.

I tend to agree. The non-stop drumbeat of fear in the media not just about the weather but everything goes on and on. People now live in a state of fear about things that are extremely unlikely to impact them. Mass shootings, terrorists, child abductions etc. But of course back in the good old days no one wore seat belts, everyone smoked etc. Ignorance may sometimes be bliss but a lot of people paid for that as well.

Sort of a miss by the weather people in our area. Ended up with 5"-6" in our burg instead of the 10 or 12 called for. Just as well considering Opening Day is a week away. Been a rather brutal March. To date we haven't hit 60 even once, whereas we hit 60 in January and February half a dozen times in each. High winds, multi-nor'easters, cold temps have all combined in this month of March to keep my heating bill elevated. -- Al

They were right in my area. Woke up this morning to 14 freakin' inches of the white stuff!{sm2}
 
I was in George’s boat and we got a dusting which is already gone

Too right. Never wore a seat belt until I took Driver's Ed in high school. Never wore a bike helmet, ever, and I biked into my 40's. Back when I could run, I did it with scissors on occasion. Never put anyone's eyes out with a BB gun, although my friends and I raised a few welts. No doubt though, childhood can be a trial. -- Al

There is a difference between caution and forethought, and panic and hysteria. Panic and hysteria is what we get from the media and especially from social media.

I can't really blame the media alone although they do exploit fear. Media stories are ratings driven. For whatever reason certain types of stories get good ratings. A mass shooting, for example. Or a snow storm. Non-stop coverage because people watch. A lot more people die by slipping in their shower, eating too much, not changing the batteries in the smoke detector or falling down the stairs but no one much cares. So there becomes a societal disconnect between legitimate and perceived risk due to the amount of media coverage devoted to certain kinds of issues. People live in fear of terrorists, serial killers, and snow. The odds of dying in one of those events is miniscule. They fear the wrong things or at least vastly overestimate the risk of certain activities while underestimating the risk of others. You are probably most at risk on a normal day whenever you drive your car. There are about 40K deaths every year from auto accidents in the US. By comparison four people died in the most recent storm.

I have been out of pocket for a few and my humblest apologies for not reaching out. Everytime I hear the news about the inclimate weather y'all are having up north, I bristle and throw some good thoughts you way hoping you guys are okay. I know that most of you are hardend east coasters, but it still sucks to be blasted with storms when Spring is on our doorstep.

This time I will not brag about the 80 degree days full of sunshine and temperate weather. No, I refuse to talk about the sweet smell of the Texas Mountain Laurels and their perfumed purple flowers that fill the city with a wonderful aroma. It is wrong of me to tell you how magnificent the Texas Bluebonnets look in the Texas Hill Country while in full bloom and to see what I am talking about "google" it. No, absolutely not will I mention that we had dinner last Sunday in Gruene, TX at the Gristmill eatery overlooking the Guadalupe river while eating mesquite BBQ. No, no NO!

Hope to see in Texas in May at the TTSS...I got the first round!

Went fishing this morning. Was like Stalingrad, with palm trees.

Tomorrow a "high" of 75? What is this, Antarctica?
 
More snow here tomorrow. Maybe as much as 4 inches. I can't recall any significant snowfall in April before. And maybe some more on the way later this week. Beginning to feel like I'm on the HMS Terror.
 
Yeah, winter hanging on here just a bit. We;re supposed to get 2 inches but as warm as it's been, it won't stick to anything but the grass and I think it will be all melted and gone by evening. -- Al
 
This weather is a bit ridiculous. We have three inches already and it may snow later this week. We started to do spring cleanup this weekend, which is now on hold.

The weather reminds me of the weather we had this past October and November where it was unusually warm. It took a long time for winter to come and it may take a long time for Spring to come.

Big fail by the local weather people as the storm almost completely went around us. Got a little drizzle but no white stuff. Just as well. ^&grin -- Al
 
They got 8 inches north of us last weekend.

Tonight it's coming our way. 8" is on tap, and we're not supposed to get a high above freezing for at least a week. Single digit lows later this week.

It's April, right???
 
Meh. It's April. Days are longer, we're getting more sun on our half of the globe, anything that falls won't last long. Temperatures outside right now are around 40, even as the snow falls. We've gotten about 3 inches already, but I expect that by tomorrow afternoon, much of it will be run-off.

We're liable to have frost as late as the middle of May, too. So, meh.
