What to buy for resale. (1 Viewer)

Btw guys, forums are for discussing all aspects of this hobby which includes critical comments, praise, demand/wish lists, etc. I agree that K & C are the best company overall. But some companies have made different and or better pieces than K & C, which is why I pick and choose from a variety of manufacturers. This ensures more variety in my collection and also provides support for the smaller companies that we need to keep K & C looking over their shoulder.

Oz

I agree that the forum is for discussing and even giving critical comments on K&C and other producers of Toy Soldiers. What gets me is the ATTITUDE towards those of us who LOVE KING AND COUNTRY and snipe at us on the K&C THREAD !?!

We dont go over to HB or Britians threads and say they are bad or say K&C is the best. We save those wonderful comments about K&C for the K&C thread only. So whats the problem with having our comments here? I am not suggesting you personally feel that way - but, others on this forum do.

I like other companies and have Conte, Britians and John Jenkins in my collection. But, IMO - King and Country is the best above the rest.

If forum members feel that the size difference between the NEW American Colonial Figures are much bigger the OLD 1776 NY Regt / PA Regt. - hey I agree and it bugs me too. And we should talk about it. But, If I think Andy has done a great job and think that K&C is the leader in the Toy Soldier World - thats my opinion and its on the K&C thread where it should be.

The forum is a big place and for those who want to get away from the "Andy Fan Club" - well there are plenty of places/threads to go to.

Ron I don't have a problem with you and others praising K & C now and again as I like most of their stuff as well. However I'm sure some members do get sick of reading posts with constant praise, as well as posts from others with constant attacks, constant whinging and constant demand/wish lists. Everything is good in moderation as they say ;)

Oz's perspective in the prior post and this one sums it up the best. Well put.

I'll second that, well put Oz, everything in moderation.................

Gentlemen

I strongly believe in King and Country.

I strongly believe that Andy has changed the Toy Soldier Hobby for the good and can be looked upon as "the Renaissance Man" of the Toy Soldier Industry.

I strongly believe that we have better Toy Soldier products today - due to K&C.

Moderation is fine - But, my belifes are strong. Everyone is entitled to have their own opinion. Those are mine - hopefully you will respect them - and I shall respect yours. You should embrace the freedom of views within this forum.

I say this with respect for all and malice to none.

Ron

Since the beginning of time, there have been toy soldiers being played with by children and then collected by man. Long before and after K/C, this was and still will be so.. The exageration on the importance of one company being the absolute savior of the toy soldier industry makes a mockery of the reason, countless generations have supported collecting and playing with toy soldiers all these hundreds of years. I am still suspect over the reasons ,younger folks are getting into the game, but ebay does that, as it puts a price tag on what used to be childlike memories......Michael

This is the Kand C thread so we don't have to discuss other companies here. Kand C is the leader and has revolutionized the hobby. What I don't like is uncritical support. We are not Andy's marketing department. We are the consumers. If Andy rings out a bit of a dud then we should say so. Some of us cannot see these models in the flesh we have to rely on magazines and the internet before deciding on what to purchase. I have never purchased anything in a bricks and mortar environment and I have huge ranges of K an C in my collection. I have proved my brand loyalty where it counts. I have spent a small fortune on K and C and have paid for the right to be fussy and critical many times over. My collection is not only K and C but after 12 years of collecting it is probably on a par with some-one like Louis's in terms of size. So uncritical praise is not something that I am going to indulge in.

I agree with you 100% - We should have honest and frank discussions what K&C does and what we like or perhaps dislike with any range or figure.

I have my problems with some figures and do not believe that everything is perfect from K&C - remember "Americans for North Africa" - I have no blinders on. But, I do believe that Andy and K&C has made the Hobby much, much better.

There is no question that the Toy Soldier industry started before 1984 - and many old fashion "Glossy" figures have their own appeal. I appreciate that.

But, in my mind the industry got alot better after 1984 and is getting more better everyday due to K&C.

This along with Oz's post is very good.I think we also need to differentiate between uncritical praise and what you might call 'fan mail'.Uncritical praise although well meant is probably unhelpful and stifles competition in the market. However i see no wrong in 'fan mail'.lf someone is knocked out by their latest purchase i see no reason why you can't come on here and sing about it.As i said before K&C are easily my faveourite company and i imagine always will be.However i also appreciate other companys.

For example. When the whole tracks debate exploded last year i didn't really get involved,i sat in my ivory tower thinking well K&C are easily the best theres no point to this debate bla bla bla.I got my K&C Panther and thought fantastic,no competition at all.I heard what everyone was saying about HB's Panthers but didn't check them out and remained in my blissful ignorance. However i have just purchased the winter Panther and am absolutely stunned!.I had to admit it is better than K&C's.It almost physically hurts to say that as i have huge loyalty to K&C and felt guilty(!).So what does Andy do in return?Ups the game and brings out the Hummel and the US Tank destroyer-superb models.Thats what competion does,we all benefit.

I once said to Andy (thinking this was a compliment)you have no real competition. And he said he didn't like that idea because its the competition that keeps him on his toes. And of course he's right.I have finally learnt(and my darling wonderful wife is often telling me )that just because i buy a tank from another company doesn't mean a thing. And of course if HB/NMA are making vehicles that Andy has decided not to do, even better!.We get a vehicle of quality that K&C aren't doing anyway!.So i will always be the chap with the pistol in one hand and the K&C Flag in the other but variety is the spice of life.....pass the ammunition Ron!

How many people who are on this forum do you think buy stuff on Ebay?

Must be loads mate, but not me.I have all the old stuff i want just about now,so i only buy K&C through the good offfices of Master Tony Neville and his father the right Honourable Mike.To be honest as i'm not after much old stuff i don't really check ebay at all.Do you buy and sell much Ron?.

Rob

Yes - I DO

I sell what I want to reduce in my collection and buy newer items that K&C comes out with. Sometime I buy items as well - that I like.

The reason why I asked the question - Rob (meant for everyone to see)

Isnt it interesting that alot of people who take shots at me, njja and others who sell items on ebay - are the same people who greedly buy things on ebay.

Think about it......here they say "youre not a true collector to sell your stuff" - then congratulate each other on their buys on ebay. They even bid crazy amounts to get items and then turn around and attack sellers for ruining the hobby - all the while being the reason for their self proclaim ruins of the hobby.

One word pops in my head - Rob

HYPOCRISY

I thought about starting a thread with just that word and we could lists all the insincerity, double standards, pretense, duplicity, two-facedness of their words and deeds - then realized that might take alot of room.

So a little public conversation with you - who does not practice that type of behavior - was the best route.

What are your thoughts my friend?

Ron

I am not going to buy old sets on ebay when so many new and better ones are round the corner. I just don't understnad why people do it. Perhaps the reason I don't chase after the old sets is that I never bought them when they first came out because I didn't like them or I prefered something else. Like the winter 88 and winter Tiger. I thought Andy was being a bit lazy to be honest by just repainting an existing set so I didn't buy them . I have both the Normandy 88 and the Witmans summer Tiger. Even if you have to wait a couple of years Andy will probaly get round to releasing another Tiger and 88 so keep your money and snap it up when that happens. Just like Rob plans to do with the Arnhem sets. I would stake my life on it but I am sure the Sept Arnhem releases will be much better than the 1995 and 2000 versions.

I agree with both the last two threads. You see my situation is quite easy.As i think some of the older stuff does not compare at all with the new stuff i don't collect it.(i know many do as its valuable and all power to them)As Damian said i think the forthcoming Arnhem stuff will be the real deal and will stand on its own,i did not want an Arnhem collection with (what i would imagine)will be soldiers of two different types.I guess i'm a completist/perfectionist (Anal the wife calls it!!!).:D

As for buying and selling ebay i'm not sure really.I guess everyone has the right to do what they will with their collection.I'm just glad i'm not having to start my collection now and go back and pay these high prices for all the stuff i've got now.No way could i afford it.Ron I don't think anyone should attack anyone else on here for their ebay practices.Your stuff you can do what you please.I don't see what someone gets out of attacking another about what he does with his own collection.?But i guess as i'm not a big ebayer i don't understand the market for these things.Live and let live i say, theres enough C*** going on in the world without getting nasty about toy soldiers.

I agree - life is too short to fight over Toy Soldiers - unfornately not all members on this forum agree with that. I think we finally settled some scores last night.

Anyway - Time to move on and enjoy Toy Soldiers :D
