Whats so great about first legion and whys so expensive??? (1 Viewer)

Okay so ive been looking over some of first legions soldiers and i mainly collect king and coutry and was pondering getting a few first legion guys, but don't understand how they could be so expensive(50+ per figure) do you folks think they top king and country? and would you suggest them?how is the detail on them, better than k and c

I would highly suggest First Legion's figures, due to the reasons already outlined by my fellow FL fanatics. The rest of us can throw out our opinions all day, but the end result is whether or not you think they are worth it. As others have said, you probably won't regret trying out a couple FL figures. But you won't know till you see them 'in the flesh'.:) As far as comparisons with other companies, check out the photos on FL's website. It does a good job of showing the difference in style, paintwork, and scale between FL and K & C. As do a number of threads here, but you will have to search a little....

To the pricing issue, I wouldn't say FL is overpriced. I love each of the FL figures I have and am glad I spent the money on them. But, you have to make that decision yourself.

There are some comparison pics buried in early threads here that sum it up nicely.

Curious as I do not own any FL figures myself but there seem to be a lot of posts to the effect of "if you don't like them, you can sell them here on the forum and get close to your money back"- can't someone jsut return them if they aren't satisfied?

Hello Sgtkillroy,
I am a collector of Europe (France)
All the arguments already explained why FL is the best figures at the best price.
In French we say "trying to adopt it"
I had a lightning strike in late 2007 discovered the first piece purchased on Ebay and since I'm still madly in love! Especially the parts NAP.
If my wallet bigger, I buy more (WW2, crusades, Roman ...)
You will not be disappointed.{sm4}:salute::

Actually, there is a no return policy, due to the fact these are collector's products. The return policy is listed on the website, down at the bottom of the main page. However, as you have no doubt seen in a number of threads, the customer service with FL is outstanding. If by chance something is damaged during shipping, Matt is more than willing to replace it.

I think the 'sell it here and get your money back' aspect is valid because of the dedicated group of FL fans on the forum. I have had a few pieces that I sold when I transitioned collecting from Napoleonics to AWI. I had no problem getting them sold very quickly and got a great return on them.

As you can see in the following pictures of figures in my actual collection, FL figures paint job is top notch... Look at the faces of those french old guard guys... wow.. !

And if you think that I'm 'pro FL' and 'anti K&C' here are some pictures of my K&C WWII figures ...

And for those who are interested, I have 28 cabinets like these to fill up.. At least 75% of them are empty ... :)

And the FL prussians are outstanding.. As much as I love the old guard guys, the flesh tones of the prussians are spot on.. perfect !

It's in all the tiny details that FL figures are different than the other mainstream ones.. those details for me are important and are what make or brake some figures..

One day my cameraman skills are going to be better.. Until then, enjoy the crappy pictures :)

Cheers,

Alex

Alex, an outstanding collection … I can only imagine the “unpacking frenzy” you go through when you get a bulk FL order. I tend to get 5-6 pieces at one time and sit down with a glass of red to unpack/inspect & enjoy each figure as it emerges from its well packed box. With a $1000+ FL order, I would go through half my cellar during the unpacking process!!! Alby

I actually go over my order in 2 days.. couple of hours at a time. Feels like Christmas every time :)

Expensive, expensive did u say expensive
I will not mention names but if u look at some of those
russians figures, if u gonna tell me there's a big difference
in the sculpting and painting with those and FL, i will suggest LENSCRAFTER
I do admit that St Pete are bigger figures, i have some it's obvious
not by that much though. I looked at the russians figures and i'm not impressed
compared to FL. Take St Pete Naps figures and FL Naps
where's the big difference in sculpt and even in the painting i would say?
Is there that much of difference, are u paying for the name?
I have 49 FL figures in my collection and adding with new Highlanders.
When i look at a FL figure and what i paid for, I'M IMPRESSED
That's only my opinion my 2 cents

Well folks it seems that by your guys personal suggestion i will be in the near future getting some of theses figures as that i really have'nt heard any negative feedback about first legions troops, and for the topic of expense i suggest now that the quality is priceless

Thank you fellow collectors for all your imput, Battle of stalingrad (all make room!){sm3}{sm4}{sm4}

No doubt, FL makes a fine figure model. I have quite a few of their Napoleonic, some Samurai and now awaiting the Romans... :)

However, I also have a nice collection of Britains ACW and AWI swoppets from the 60's and I will never, ever give them up... They are a part of my early years although I acquired the bulk of these in the last 10 years. They bring back memories which cannot be erased. They make a nice diorama in their own right too!

K&C, Britains and JJD have their own little charm as well as toy soldiers and I have collected several ranges of each in the past. All I can say, it is hard to mix FL figures with any of these as they just don't seem to fit in. FL figures live in a different domain...

I wouldn't recommend any manufacturer to change their unique style of presentation, only to improve on the quality as much as they can. Each style has it's charm. When I attend a toy soldier show, certain figures catch my eye more than others but, in the end, I am looking and appreciating them all...! :smile2:

I really hope TM Terrain have the new Union dismounted cavalry in London next month, am looking forward to my first glimpse^&cool

Rob

Don't think they're available for pre-order yet, as I would like to buy a few also.
