Why does it seem we are not having fun anymore. (3 Viewers)

Simmo mate,
Now see what you have done !!!!! You have got Obee having too much FUN. ^&grin

John mate,
Stop having so much FUN and get back to my repaints. More Halftracks on the way to you.^&grin

Cheers Howard.:smile2:

Wait ya turn cobber...............

This is a great pic. I have repainted two spits in german captured pose for lads in the UK and germany. It was weird repainting such an aircraft in german camo and decaling it up as german but, they looked good so, would recommend Wayne getting one done

I'm thinking of doing the same thing with a P-51 :wink2:

Mitch,
Great pic.

Perhaps a German Spitfire might keep Wayne happy until somebody brings out a Stuka.

However I am sure Obee actually would rather do a Spitfire in Napoleonic colours !.

Regards
Brett

its amazing how many allied fighters and bombers were captured and used everything from spits to typhoons. Neil, the P51 would look great in captured colours

There some good book on the subject as well , do you have any photo of your Spitfire repaints Mitch ?

Wayne,
Not if it is the Waffen SS guy crouching down by the road with his trousers down and say 5 Zulus charging towards
him. That would ruin his day but be fun for the Zulus.

I used to have a 4 man British Commando set coming around the corner of my LAH parade. The possibilities are
endless.

Brett
Now, THIS is funny.{bravo}} -- Al

I'll have to run against the current here and say that it's not as much fun as it used to be. I think the back and forth arguing and the politics here and there has ultimately taken its toll, sadly, not to mention that as you get older you just can't keep buying stuff, particularly when in a few years we may want to move. I'm actually starting to slowly reduce my collection and other material possessions, which is why you're seeing trying to part with some things. More to come :smile2:

How about some fun with some totally historically incorrect dioramas with say British Redcoats or Zulus attacking Waffen
SS ?. That could be fun.

Regards
Brett

You already have totally historical incorrect dioramas with British Lancers carrying infantry size colours at Balaklava, Australian Light Horse carrying standards at Beersheba and a Scots Greys trumpeter wearing a pantomime uniform at Waterloo. Trooper

Trooper,
Whilst that may be correct those that are concerned about such things don't have to buy or display such figures in the relevant charge.

Whilst it may concern some people my experience is that the great majority go on to buy all the cavalry/mounted figures in a particular release (exception might be the Blue Aussie flag which does look odd with the Red Ensign).

In the case of the Light Horse series the flagbearers are usually the first to be bought. Collectors like them.

Brett

I'd have even more 'fun' if the 'day job' didn't take up the daylight hours :(

But it sure pays better $$$$$$ that anything on offer from Howard & Wayne ^&grin

Still thats what weekends are for, and evening when there is nothing on TV to watch, and after sitting in formtof double computer monitors all day, the last thing I want to do is surf the net..... so its 'fun' out in the shed doing what I love, painting toy soldiers :)

Strangely enough Brett, your post is almost exactly word for word the same answer I was given when I raised this question with the maker concerned. I totaly agree that the purchase is entirely up to the buyer, I also agree that they look very pretty. But as I go to great lengths to make figures as accurately as possible it disheartens me to see a reputable company marketing such anomalies. Why do I bother? Why SHOULD I bother? Well, to me these are representations of history and deserve to be treated with a certain amount of dignity and we should endeavour to make them as accurate as possible. There is too much revision of history without us adding to it. Trooper

Is it just me or are we not having much fun these day's. There seems to be a lot of negativity lately about alot of things. Are the price

increases the thing that has made the over all change in the mood on the forum. I for one have been pinched by the increases and have

adjusted my budget to match . I have moved onto other brands that match my budget a little better . What are your thoughts guy's.

Simmo.

It's good to see that there is some fun left in this hobby. Some of the replies have proven that. Secretly I am having alittle fun too. Simmo.

Trooper,
These are Toy Soldiers (or Military Miniatures etc).

Flagbearers add colour to the display even though they might not actually have been carried in the relevant
charge. Including them does not in my mind affect the history or memory of the event.

Regarding the Lighthorse series I have often seen LH re-enactors with the Red Ensign or Blue Aussie flag (not
both together) during ANZAC Day parades or re-enactment events.

The reality is they sell extremely well and I don't recall ever having a customer question a flagbearer's (or bugler)
inclusion in a particular group.

Clearly you would feel better if they did not exist but the majority seem to like them. Nobody is forced to buy
them. Far from it they are often the first bought.

Whilst I understand your point I see no problem with such figures.

Regards
Brett
PS Disclosure : I admit I am biased, being a dealer !

Trooper...

Excellent post and, it does seem some are very willing to allow this stuff to happen and equally as many to believe the manufacturers version of historical fact. Its why I shook my head when I spoke to a collector the other day who could not get into his mind that his Battle of the bulge diorama I made with AFV's was totally different to the movie he saw??????? Cause mine is based on real events ya numpty!!!

Trooper and Mitch,
This thread subject was about having fun.

I made a suggestion about Zulu figures combined with WWII Germans (knowing Simmo has both). That might be fun. Please note I am well aware Zulus and Brit Redcoats never fought against WWII Germans.

I have no idea how that is relevant to K&C mounted flagbearer's and buglers.

We already have a number of threads going about accuracy etc. Personally I don't think we need another.

Brett

Brett...

I think the thread was asking why it seems we are not having fun or, as much fun as some other imaginary times not mentioned so, this question would allow responses like those posted and, some of the reasons some are not having fun comes down to issues of accuracy, price and other issues which, Trooper eluded to. Now, I would agree if the thread was posed as I am having fun or this is why I am having fun they would not be relevant but, its not so, all these comments supporting having fun or answering the actual question why it does not seem we are having fun anymore are relevant and pertinant to the question.

Should you wish to have a fun thread only please start one and, I will post accordingly but, as you know threads always have a tendancy to drift but, not in this case.
Best wishes
Mitch
