Why does it seem we are not having fun anymore. (2 Viewers)

Its why I shook my head when I spoke to a collector the other day who could not get into his mind that his Battle of the bulge diorama I made with AFV's was totally different to the movie he saw??????? Cause mine is based on real events ya numpty!!!
Mitch

WHAT?? ... {eek3} ... you mean that Henry Fonda didn't save the US AMMO dump from the Evil Col. Hessler buy rolling 3 oil drums down the road and blowing up the Tiger? Next you will probably tell me that Ty Hardin wasn't really a German Spy. <****>
That's it; I am selling my BoB collection and collecting Worldwide Wrestling Federation trading cards.

Good Post Mitch. We should have a thread on all the movie "myths" that most people hold as God Given fact! ... but it would be scary.{eek3}

Brett,
If you go back to the beginning of this thread you will find that inaccuracy was brought up as early as the second post, which would seem to indicate that it is relevent to having fun. ~Secondly when making a figure it is no more effort to get it right as to get it wrong. In my book this is known as pride in one's work. Honest mistakes are excusable providing that lessons are learnt from them, but deliberate errors serve no purpose, grate on the sensibilities, and thus detract from the enjoyment IMO. Trooper

Larry...

Indeed it would be a scary thread!!!

My belief system is crumbling before my eyes!^&grin:wink2: Next you'll be telling me John Wayne didn't land in Normandy ala Longest Day , and lead his men inland on a stretcher like a wagon train with a 'Forward Ho' ! He made some great Westerns but really overacted in the Longest Day.:rolleyes2::wink2:

As for having fun, I love this hobby!. All this angst and pulling of hair passes me by, we can argue until the moo Cows come home but it comes down to A) DO I LIKE IT B)CAN I AFFORD IT C) DO I CARE WHAT ANYONE ELSE THINKS OF WHAT I BUY? My answers to those are A)Normally a great deal B) Sometimes C) Are you kidding me?!!

Some people count rivets and some may buy a Pink polka dot Sherman, who cares, buy what flicks your switch and enjoy it when you do. You have to answer to no one but yourself.

Hold on there, Rob. I can live with one saying that "The Duke" may have overacted, but the statement that we have to answer to only ourselves is complete fallacy to those of us who are married, aka, "she who must be obeyed". {sm5}:wink2::tongue: -- Al

Rest Easy Rob; John started by leading the Flying Tigers to fame and glory in China. Then John commanded the airborne assault on St. Mére-Eglise on June 5th, and then rushed back to the US to train as a tough, but fair minded (and drunk) Leather Neck to lead his guys onto the shores of Iwo Jima on February ’45; so all is good.

Of course, all the while, John was also commanding the submarine USS Thunderfish and Piloting the PT boat that save General MacArthur ….. and most importantly getting Patricia Neal.

My kinda’ guy!

Please do not forget "The Duke's" stint with the Seabees, building airfields and bulldozing the Japanese.:wink2:^&grin -- Al

Of course my friend, she who must be obeyed , thanked and discouraged from entering ones office!!

Rob mate,
It would seem from this thread that the only folks having fun are the Brits and the Aussies.^&grin I can't wait till I get to the Windy City to light a fire under some of my Yank and Reb mates who seem to be in the doldrums.^&grin
Here is my guide to having fun.
1. Get home from work and knock the top off a coldie.
2. Walk outside and pat the dogs.
3. Enter my TS kingdom.
4. Shuffle a few Lighthorsemen around on the Dio.
5. Open a box of repaints from Obee and admire.
6. Knock the top off another coldie.
7. Sit down in my comfortable chair with a good book. ie Sir Harry Chauvel's Bio.
8. Between pages look up and admire my TS collection.
9. Wait for she who must be obeyed to ring the dinner bell.
Life is to short to not have TS fun.
Cheers Howard:smile2:

PS Had dinner with Patrick (ex K&C) last night before he returns home to HK after a 9 months working holdiday in the Land of OZ.

What coldie do you drink mate ? I like the VB when I was in OZ ^&grin

Well - I for one am still having great fun with my hobby - which is painting castings in gloss. As far as I'm concerned, the only thing that has changed for me - is that I'm getting a lot more help and advice about what I do since joining the forum.

There are a few negative comments about from some people - but maybe that's just the way some people are. They don't bother me too much though, maybe because I don't collect what they do. So - my message is - beware of the all inclusive "we" in the sentence above. Some of us are doing fine thanks.^&grinjohnnybach

{sm3}Well said Johnny bach, Like you I paint castings and customise them as well. As you guys have seen. I like to add a theme to the solid Dio too. When I look into my cabinet I enjoy the fact that I painted these figures, and it gives me contentment. In fact doing this is my form of meditation from a stressfull working world. I suppose its an insular thing which for me has a purpose, apart from possession. As I don't have a specific manufactuers collection, there is no need to finish it. Collecting will happen when I am finished. Each to their own as we say, however if it is causing anxiety or frustration then it's negative stress, and therefore destructive. For me as I say this is calming and positive. I love reading other folks ideas, and especially the sharing of usefull or fascinating information. No one here I know, does TS painting or collecting so it is a great conduit for channeling our thoughts, theories and talents. I'm having fun. Cheers Johno.

I had a set up on my table and my wife asked "what are you GOING to do with them?" I say THEY are doing it RIGHT NOW."

Mitch,

Regarding your comment "Should you wish to have a fun thread only please start one and, I will post accordingly". I thought I made a reasonable effort at starting a fun thread with my recent New manufacturer thread. You were the first to respond and your posts in that thread showed a lack of fun (which was commented upon by others in that thread). If I do start another fun thread I will be sure to indicate it is fun so you can post accordingly.

Trooper,
Your comment was right :
"If you go back to the beginning of this thread you will find that inaccuracy was brought up as early as the second post, which would seem to indicate that it is relevent to having fun".

I also note the 2nd post was made by Mitch{sm4}.

Regards
Brett
