Why has no one resurrected Trophy of Wales? (1 Viewer)

Hello.
Forgive me for being a neophyte on this subject but that is the reason for asking questions. Anyway, I have often wondered why no enterprising entrepreneur or business has not resurrected Trophy of Wales? As seen on the Forum, the company was and has been quite popular, so there is an interest in purchasing more of the company's work. Moreover, W. Britains was bought by another company. Why not Trophy of Wales?

Thanks,
MikeNick

I think this is an old question and those who know better than me can give a better answer. However, I think Ken Jackson has the rights now. Unfortunately, I don't know the reason why new Trophy hasn't shown up. Perhaps the molds wore out.

Seems a simple enough question doesn't it? Probably best for some Trophy collectors to give you their answers. I don't collect thgem myself - as I like painting my own - but I DO like how Len sculpted and painted them. I try very consciously to paint up my castings - in a complimentary way to many of the better Glossy makers - which, of course would include Trophy.

I suspect that some people collect Trophy - just because they aren't being made any more. There's a bit of the thrill of the chase - in hunting down rare specimens - and trying to get that definitive collection - with at least one of everything that len made. If someone were to resurect the old moulds and start producing the old figures again - I also suspect there would be howls of protest from some quarters - as they see their old (and sometimes rare - and therefore valuable items), possibly going down in value before their eyes.{eek3}

Others buy them - just 'cos they like them - and there's nothing wrong with that - but as there is a finite number available - the old rule of supply and demand comes into play - and they can only go up in value as less become available.

It's a bit like owning a Picasso painting - if someone makes a darned good copy - will it affect the value of an original???? I don't think so - but that's just my guess.^&cool

On a personal level - I would love to get my hands on some new Castings of some of Len's beautiful figures - and try my hand at painting them - but - as with many other superb figures from old producers - I'm guessing that may be far from likely - well - at the moment.

Lastly of course, there are the thoughts and wishes of the original producer to take into account. Len made them - and the moulds are his for as long as he may wish to keep hold of them. If he chooses to sell them on - and someone else wants to take on production - that again, is his - and their business.

Never say Never though, eh? - I should live so long!

Just delight in what you can see, for the moment, from those kind owners who take the trouble to show us some of Len's little masterpieces, from time to time, (which many of us thoroughly appreciate) and cross your fingers and hope...............You never know..................:D Johnnybach

I wish I could say more, but what I can say is that when Len retired he sold the company to Ken Jackson of Maison Militaire.
Ken took on all of the moulds and masters in order to keep them together. If you want anything just ask him.

I guess we have beaten a dead horse long enough ^&grin
Said and tried almost everything...a sad situation but not much we can do about it.

Thanks for the links back to previous threads about the selling of the Trophy moulds Martyn. I'm sure that will help explain things to those of us who joined the forum after the thread had run its course - it was news to me.

Sad though, that they are still not being produced - but with lots of other casting providers around - there are still lots of similar products to choose from. And with nice-guys like you who show us what Trophy looked like on a regular basis - we can always strive to produce our own versions from those.

Sorry but even though products like Little Legion are great, it's not the same as the real thing :(

Agreed Brad - but when there appears to be little chance of that happening - the pragmatic approach is to just do the best you can - with what you CAN get hold of.:) jb

i agree brad, little legion has some great pieces that tell a story to augment my waterloo diorama. But the heads are a little different which is ok but hte guns just have too much silver on the top which takes away from their great figures. There is just something about the trophy figures that i fell in love with when i first saw them in chicago in 1995.

If i ever hit the lotto buying the trophy molds would be topps on my list
