I like that Rorke's Drift sandbag emplacement, it could also be used in different ears, including as a WWII MG emplacement or obeservation post.

The new ACW Ambulance does look very good! I will defiantly be getting one also.

Hi All!
....
As a further explanation the ACW Ambulance and team is fixed to a scenic base so we could use realistic reins and attach them to the drivers hands. Any other approach would necessitate some type of over scale treatment. I think you will like it when you see it.
...
I didn't quite follow that; can you explain what the base has to do with the reins and attachment?

I think Ken means that collectors won't have to fiddle/attach parts with them when they take them out of the box.

OK but I still am not seeing why that requires it to be attached to a base?

Imagine everything all connected together reigns, traces etc without it having one single solid base. It would be a nightmare to pack, ship and unpack.

By keeping it on one base all you have to do is take it out of the box voila job's done.

Now having said that. I think it should all be separate and allow for us to connect the traces etc.... I remember Ken said that people had trouble connected the WW1 RHA set and that is why they put it on one base. Not to be rude but perhaps the design needs to be looked at so we can hook it up ourselves. The base just makes it loose it's aesthetics IMHO it looks bottom heavy. I think the horses should each have a base and that is it.

By putting it on a base, it allowed Ken to sculpt/provide more detailed reins and other horse harness parts that would not have been possible if the wagon had been loose. I think its a wonderful looking model and I would much rather have the detail that the base allows rather than the mobility of the wagon.

I really prefer the one solid base look to be honest! Id be much more interested in buying one with one base then one with multiple bases, its probably just me though lol

I totally agree Mike more detail for me is always the better option

Here is what I mean with the WW1 RHA set

Here was the set originally planned for release.

I have this gun team as a pre production. We went from 6 separate horses with their own bases and separate trace between them. That was a nightmare to keep together.

Then we went to two lengths of three horses and every time you hooked up one side the other side went out of line or came unhooked.

The final design was pretty easy to hook up but some folks did not like the look of the limber and gun without a base. I am not sure why this should be an issue as almost all of the figures require a base to stand too, and that is not a problem.

I plan on taking my sample (which also is missing one driver) and mounting the entire thing on a H&A base so it can be moved easier from shelf to shelf. Another five minute job as my dad used to say!

Our future vehicles with complex harness will probably be handled in the same way... and there is plenty more in the works! I really try to understand recreate good harness to help set the period the vehicles and guns represent.

Hope this helps,
Ken

Well as long as their are plenty of Zulus charging after the RHA gun and limber then.
Sounds exciting

Hi Ken thanks for your input, I think it is because the gun carriage seems to be just hanging off the back in the final product. Would it be possible to do a full base that each pices sits in (like the Maison Militaire pieces)

Well, this brings us right back to the same conclusion and that is why we mounted the ambulance and team on a single scenic base.
We have something already worked out for guns and limbers... stay tuned.
All the Best!

Sounds great Ken cant wait for the Zulu Wars gun & limber.

Cheers Craig

I have the 2003 Confederate 6 horse caisson set ....and the Union 6 horse Artillery set ...it was quite the challenge to set up ...you do not want to move them to often......I think a single base would be a better idea.....

I think it's really interesting how so many people have really firm opiinions who have never seen it in the flesh - i have, it's brilliant , just buy it guys!
Interestingly the best acw gun team i have ever seen was by st petersburg and it was amazing and it was on a solid base!

I agree after seeing it on the display I was totally drawn to it, really liked everything about the sculpt & detail put into it! Im seriously considering getting one & I dont even own any ACW sets!

I don't know if you need to see it in the flesh to have a preference for one type of base arrangement versus another. I much prefer the look of the planned WWI RHA set. There a few challenges for collectors in setting up most figures but I suspect they could have handled the fitting the traces correctly. It is a lovely piece but I must admit the single base is a large negative for me.
