World Cup in Brazil (1 Viewer)

Glad to see Brazil showing some spirit with all these shots here in the second half. Now if they can just get one or two by the German goalie, who seems to be rejecting everything, they might actually salvage some pride. -- Al

They won't salvage much pride from this performance

If Brazil scores a touchdown and goes for two and gets it, they take the lead, so all is not lost.

Touchdown and goes for two are US football terms by the way for all you soccer fanatics out there.

You may throw light in this but this is terrible.

I remember being crushed when they lost the 1998 Final to France. This was just stunning, putting you in a fog.

I don't know if Germany is this good -- and they are -- or Brasil this bad. I guess a combination of the two.

The only thing that can make this worse for Brasil is if Argentina wins the title. There is nothing Argentina would like than to do that.

Brazil losing in the final in 1998 was like the Patriots losing to the Giants in the 2008 Super Bowl; both were shocking nut punches.

This 7-1 loss is like the Patriots losing to the Broncos last year in the AFCCG; Denver was the better team, the Patriots didn't belong on the same field as them, it wasn't stunning, it was a beat down, as was this. Germany is clearly the better team, so when you lose to a better team, it's not stunning.

If Argentina gets to the final and wins it, I sense the entire country of Brazil will have a nervous break down...................

{eek3}{eek3}{eek3}{eek3}{eek3}{eek3}{eek3}{eek3}{eek3} what else can I say.... {eek3}!!!

I think the difference is that when one of our local teams it only upsets the fans of that team. Here, the whole country is upset. The only silver lining is that it was over early. If they had lost by a goal in a competitive game, that would have been more upsetting.

After today, tomorrow seems like an anticlimax. Maybe this is the year a European team wins in America.

One thing about Germany -- and it's pretty evident throughout the last month -- they play an attractive form of football.

You nailed it Brad, losing 3-2 in shoot out would have been worse than getting curb stomped 7-1 IMO............

Brad,

The news agencies and every sports comentators are unanimous in stating: this was a historic and epic humiliation... Frankly speaking I knew our chances of winning today were below slim; our team came this far without convincing much, and with Neymar and Thiago Silva out, the reality is that only David Luis remained as a world class player, in the sense of guys that do make a difference, unbalancing the game. The rest of the team is average, nothing but that. Loosing was a prospect, but with a 1 to 2 goal difference. What the world saw today was a slaughter, something that defies any explanation, no matter how well the Germans played, and they sure did play great!

Maybe it was a tribute the other players gave Neymar: if he couldn`t play, neither did we....{sm4}{sm4}{sm4}{sm4}{sm4}

Maybe every team should be outclassed and play poorly if it's a better option than playing well ,and going out in the penalty stage ?

Carlos,

I was doubtful but hopeful that they would win; without Thiago and Neymar it would be difficult but not impossible, especially with the crowd on their side. So yes it was slim but this was epic, you're right., shocking. Doesn't make 1950 look that bad. When the game started, for the first 6 or 7 minutes when Brasil was controlling the action, I had the feeling that the Germans were hoping that all the emotion would run out and that's what happened. Once they weathered that storm, Germany took over. It is still hard to believe that it happened this way. Too much emotion can hurt and the pressure on them was enormous, too much probably.

I guess there will be plenty of time to plan for 2018 and the Libertadores Cup.

I'll type slower in order to make my point; yes, I'd prefer to lose 46-10 to a better team than to lose in a last second, gut wrenching fashion 17-14 to the point where the loss eats at me for the rest of my life and causes me nightmares and sleepless nights knowing my team lost to a clearly inferior team.

The curse of being a fan; when you get outclassed, you can laugh about it, when you lose to a team you have no business losing to, that leaves a mark.

I'd rather laugh than be scarred for life, but hey, that's me................

Gents,

That was..........well I am speechless.

On to mañanas match.

I was watching some of the replays tonight and although there is plenty of blame to go around, the Germans absolutely undressed Marcelo, who plays for my team, Real Madrid. The worst undressing I had seen recently was the performance of the Spanish keeper, Iker Casillas, against the Dutch; Casillas also plays for Real. Real is trying to convince him to go to PSG. The RM brass can hardly be pleased by what they saw from Marcelo today.
