well, I did say that Germany would win and, they were superb. They out played the Brazilians and sadly, showed how ordinary they have now become. They have been the best team in the tournament and, have turned it on at the right time. every where across the pitch they have strength and class. Lowe will be making sure they keep their feet on the ground as the job is not done but, you cannot see anyone defeating them.

Stunning to watch but, they have been good all through this tournament

I'll type slower in order to make my point; yes, I'd prefer to lose 46-10 to a better team than to lose in a last second, gut wrenching fashion 17-14 to the point where the loss eats at me for the rest of my life and causes me nightmares and sleepless nights knowing my team lost to a clearly inferior team.

The curse of being a fan; when you get outclassed, you can laugh about it, when you lose to a team you have no business losing to, that leaves a mark.

I'd rather laugh than be scarred for life, but hey, that's me................

Agreed, if my team is going to lose a big game I'll take the good ol butt whipping, I can move on much faster and just know we played a better team that day that beat us and get on with it, but those nail biters when you could/should win and lose?? they stick with you, (me anyway) the loss to the Pats (dropped pass in end zone) in the AFC Championship game still bothers me even though the Ravens got revenge the following year and won it all, hate to even see the replay of the drop:mad::mad: so chin up Brazil, played a good tourney up to yesterday, just wasn't your day and every passed ball/kick went Germanys way, I promise the Sun will rise and in 4 years this tournament will be played again...Sammy

Thanks for your words Sammy, but this result was a historical humiliation and grievance for our team. Losing would be ok, pretty much anticipated by many here, but 7x1 ?!? It’s hard to explain how hard this hits around here. Best comparison I can make is that for a majority of Brazilians, football is close to a religion, it is truly THE national sport! The upside is that for some time people have criticized tactics and behavior in Brazilian teams in general, factors that obviously were present in this national team, and after yesterday instead of only talk I think we will see action and change beginning in August with the resumption of the Brazilian national football tournament. Maybe all this will lead to a better performance in 2018....
Hope there’s not a second fiasco with the 3rd place game Saturday. It will be held here in Brasília and I have tickets for it…

Great post and applicable to all sports.

It doesn't look good for the 3rd place game but at least they will have their regular back 4 including Silva. But they won't have Neymar to score. Will Scolari finally sit Fred who has been invisible the entire tournament and sit one or two other underperformers? And David Luis, the world's highest paid defender had a few terrible years at Barcelona and only one good one. On average, including this World Cup, he's just not that good.

Following yesterday's loss, I can't imagine that Brasil will be motivated to play on Saturday unless it's against Argentina and even then I don't think both teams will be motivated. Playing a Third Place game seems like an anachronism.

As there are some players who may never play for Brasil again -- at least I hope so -- like Fred, Scolari should use this match to give some of the younger players some experience, especially those who may form part of the nucleus of future teams.

The Dutch game is a snoozefest. Do the Dutch ever shoot the ball? -- Al

The German team must be thinking that either team will suit them as there is nothing to fear. Supposedly the worlds best players on the pitch and they are both terrible.

They are both trying to break through the middle and the defenders are blocking quite a few shots and breaking up passes to the top of the box. Some exceptional defensive plays and not many fouls. Sneijders free kicks and corners have been disappointing. I think it's a great game. There is lots of tension and a few close calls as one goal will win it.

We must be watching different games Al. ^&grin Same for Mitch - they are hardly terrible.

Two stubborn coaches refusing to change their game plan for 120 minutes. Great defensive plays, but the Dutch have a better offence on paper and probably should have brought the game to Argentina. If Argentina plays the same game in the final, I doubt they will beat Germany.

Terry, we were watching the same game but from different perspectives. I don't appreciate the finer points of a 0-0 game. To me it's a good nap period. Now, I liked the German game, lots of action and scoring. The Dutch got what they deserved by not playing to take enough shots to ram home a goal. Another team broken-hearted by the shoot-out, an unnecessary ending tacked on that encourages conservative play. They say soccer is the game of the future in the USA, well, it is always going to be the game of the future, never the game of now. :wink2: -- Al

I only saw the first half as I had to go to a meeting but it wasn't inspiring as both teams didn't want to take any risks. I was following the game through the FIFA site but it was tense and you could feel it.

To to say I'm thrilled with the result is an understatement. I root for all Latin American teams, not to mention I lived in Uruguay, near Argentina. An all European final would have been a bit boring. The Brasilians will, of course, be pulling for Germany and there will be a lot of Argentines there so this will inject the final with a lot of passion. I understand why they will pull against Argentina although I think it should be the reverse. Here's hoping the title stays in Spanish speaking hands.

Germany will, of course, be favored but yesterday was a bit of an aberration because Brasil fell apart so quickly and we are more likely to see the Germany that played France, Algeria or the US. Argentina will need to score first or they will probably lose. It's likely to be a one goal game.

Great program on Salvador, Bahia (Brasil) tonight on CNN on Anthony Bourdain's Parts Unknown.

Germany wins 4 times
Argentina wins 1 time
draw 1 time

Also.....Germany have a good chance. :)

Ah, yes, but there is this: this will be the 10th WC final where a South American team has faced a European team in the final. South America has won seven of those nine meetings.

On Sunday, Argentina won't be as bad as they were yesterday -- Messi had no touches in the penalty area -- and Germany won't be as good as they were on Tuesday.

Who will win? I don't know but we will find out in a few days.

Why we win?

Brazil get the 4 star 24 years after the 3 Star................ Italy geht the 4 star 24 years after the 3 star! Now its time for Germany 24 years after the last (3) star.

The Fifa anonced that Germany will be the new number one in the word rank list (after the final).

We have the Brazilian on our side

We have Mr. Neuer

And..... I mam not sure.......but its time for the first european team to win a final in South America.

Aaaaand if we lose................ I will delete this message ^&grin

But the importan think for Sunday..... I hope we will see an exciting Match..... whoever wins (so Germany). :)

FB,

Your logic is impeccable and I can't disagree with anything you said but the games are not played on paper. Like you, I just hope we get a good match.

Maybe we should make Brasil, Holland and Argentina play each other on Saturday since they all played so badly and have Algeria and USA have a playoff to see who plays Germany on Sunday since those two teams played Germany the toughest ^&grin

Viel Glück am Sonntag!

Brad
