World Cup (2 Viewers)

Gents, make sure you watch today's 10am matches. All four teams still have a chance and Germany and Sweden will be desperate. It could be some of the best football so far.

Personally, I want Germany to finish second or be out and in this afternoon's matches for Brasil to be second so they are not in Spain's bracket.

Germany is playing it close to the edge as Sweden has just scored.

Mexico is skating towards the edge. Quite incredible. They better hope SK holds firm.

Kind of a surprise to me that Mexico got so badly beaten, but even more shocking that Germany is being beaten by the South Koreans. Expected big games from both and they both were flat. -- Al

Nothing ever goes well for Germany in Russia.:rolleyes2: -- Al

And that is why the World Cup is the greatest sporting event there is.

OMG!!!{eek3}{eek3} Football history has added another day to remember... All I can wish for is that today’s surprise stock has been used and that no more of them strike today. Brazil will be dueling with Serbia in less than 2 hours from now...:rolleyes2:

Italy did not qualify.

Germany is out after the first round.

So am I.

Frankly, I don't get the glee I see everywhere about the Germans being out, I guess they're the Patriots of the Soccer World, ie, the team everyone hates.

More like the team everyone envies.

Enjoy the rest of the matches fellas.

The immortal Gary Lineker coined this a few years ago:

“Football is a simple game. Twenty-two men chase a ball for 90 minutes and at the end, the Germans always win.”

No offense, but the Patriots are not in the same league as German football. The Germans have never been eliminated in group play until today. That is an amazing record of accomplishment.

I love it when someone says "Don't take this the wrong way" or "No offense" or "Don't get upset at this" as 10 times out of 10, the person takes it the wrong way, gets offended or gets upset.

My point Brad was not to compare their achievements, but rather to point out that there seems this mob mentality of hate towards both franchises. People around here who are not Patriots fans were dancing in the streets after they lost the Super Bowl to that tomato can Nick Foles, just like the entire soccer world is reveling in the loss of the Germans.

As a casual soccer fan at best, I find it idiotic.

Worry about your own team.

George

People dislike them because they’re good and have been good consistently. Same with the Yankees and Patriots.

Now, which team would that be ^&confuse

Uruguay?
Brasil?
Spain? or
Argentina?

No offense and don’t take it the wrong way :wink2: but too bad you’re not watching anymore. There will be some great football.

Surprises, enough! Uff...! We made it through Serbia! Now let’s see what awaits us next Monday against Mexico....Switzerland made a good game against Costa Rica and also went through. This WC is a whole different ball game!

Yeah, I'm sure hard core soccer fans worldwide will be on the edge of their seats to see how Mexico and Korea do...………..or whoever made it through to the round of 16.

But do keep me posted as to the results, can't wait.

I have to say, that Germany showed a rather embarrassing performance during their 3 games in the group stage, and it is well deserved that they fly home tomorrow.
However, the World Cup goes on, and there are a few games coming up which I find quite exciting and am looking forward to watching them, starting on Saturday with France vs Argentina and then Uruguay vs Portugal.
Then on Monday there will be Brazil vs Mexico, and of course there are a few more contestants who could make it all the way through to the final, like Spain, Croatia, England, Belgium and last but not least Colombia.
And then, since after tomorrow all the games will be knockout games, I am sure that the approach of each team will be different, compared to the group stage.
George, I think after tomorrow, you will get to watch better games :wink2:

I thought Brasil played well. There was good ball movement and Neymar was very active and looked fit. It bodes well for the future. I'm just glad they're not in the same bracket as Spain. Mexico will need luck against Brasil.

I actually don't think they played that poorly, they just couldn't finish and they had plenty of chances today. You have to give a lot of credit to the South Korean defense, especially their goalie. He was superb.

I'm hoping Colombia can find a way to make it through. On the other hand, it will be a shame if Senegal doesn't make it.

On Saturday, the World Cup really starts and I will be anxiously awaiting Sunday's match between Spain and Russia.

Totally agree with your views Brad. And yes, now the WC is really on and the games will tend to reach another level. It’s interesting to move on the WC without those who normally would be there at this stage, like Italy, Germany and the Netherlands, and that at least to me makes it even more exciting. Will love to see Senegal moving ahead, but my eyes are set on Belgium, a team that I think has the potential to be the “new phenomenon” and surprise in the football world.

Carlos, I’m very interested to see Belgium England tomorrow. I think Belgium is a serious contender but I’m not sure about England so tomorrow could tell us a lot.

I think it’s good to see some of these smaller countries do well. It’s good for the sport.

I hope Marcelo is not seriously hurt.
