World War One (1 Viewer)

I am primarily a K&C and Trophy collector and every now and then pick-up some Britains. Here are sets 8927 Royal Horse Artillery with 13pdr Gun & Review Order Detachment. The second is 8937 French Gun Detachment with 75mm Gun & Caisson.

Whow to great sets there Lawrence, I have the Royal Horse Artilery set but not the French one! Never even seen it for sale, thanks for sharing the pics.

Cheers Craig.

I saw the set with the French Crew on ebay once in a while, but that was before I was interested in this range :rolleyes2:
Now, since I am looking for it, it won't show up anymore.
One day I will find it, no need to rush :wink2:

That's part of the fun! If you got everything you wanted straight away there wouldn't be anything to look forward to!

Right you are, Craig,
the search and find makes for half of the fun in the hobby.

Vickers Guns shown here with different troops.

On the left is set no. 8911
"In 1914 all British Infantry Regiments had two Vickers machine guns per battalion; these were put to good use in the early battles of 1914.
In fact, the first two VC's of the First World War were won by Lieutenant Dease and Private Godley of the Royal Fusiliers when using their machine gun to check the German advance at Mons.
In it's improvised anti-aircraft mode, the Vickers Maxim was fitted to a wagon wheel enabling the two-man crew to turn full circle to follow the target."

In the middle is set no. 8917.
Shown is the Vickers Machine Gun with Gunners of the M.G.C. in Overseas Service Dress worn in the Mesopotamia Campaign. A campaign in which the Corps fought in the unbearable glare of the desert sun, without shade in temperatures up to 120 F.

On the right is set no 9905 (US Marines with Vickers Machine Gun 1914-1918)

There is a guy on e-bay that has had the French 75 and USMC 75 on sale for a couple of years. I assume they're the same set/listing and haven't sold because of the outrageous price (approx. 3x what they're worth). I own the French 75 and I really think it is a fine set. The only odd thing about it is the crew. Only the OIC has a base. the other three figures have no bases and as a result the 2 standing figures are REALLY unstable. The two standing figures will not stand on their own and must be leaned against the gun. A base for them should have been included. -- Al

Thanks for the info, Luiz and Al,
I know the one set on ebay. Am seeing it, whenever I make a search for Premier items.
It is up for a very, very long time, since the price is at least three times as much as I would be willing to pay.
There is a another set up currently but that is still too expensive.
One time I will find it at a good price :)

This set was released by WBritain, not as a part of the Premier or Charles Biggs series.
It is set no. 08946 British Tank Mark I 'Mother' Male, released in 1998.

This is a very well done tank with some good detail. I like the anti-grenade screen and tail. -- Al

Very nice Konrad,
This is one great looking piece I'm glad you have one in your collection. I'm not sure if its the same in the states but over here this is one hard set to track down, took me years to even see them on ebay & when it did apear it was always way to much money, in the end after years of searching Patrick from British Toy Soldier gave me his own set! Which was very nice of him :) he didn't think I'd ever get one so thought his would have a better home with me! Fortunatly he found another one at chicargo the following year to replace his own lol needless to say this is the centre piece of my WW1 collection.

Should be relatively easy to pin a base under the figures - though I suppose it might interfere with the value of what seems to be a rare-ish set. Was this the way it was originally produced? - or have the bases been removed?

I have also seen a few of the French 75 - produced as castings by a few TS manufacturers. My first thought when I see something that I like which is too expensive for me - is to think - now how could I have something similar? - and then go looking. However, if it just HAS to be the Britains model - then I gues you are stuck with coughing up whatever the going rate is. BUT IF NOT - take a look around the suppliers of castings - and paint one up yourself and save a bucket-full of dosh! johnnybach

Just as a thought - have a look at one of my artillery pieces - and one of the standing soldiers I made up from a casting. I know it's a different gun - but the stance of the gunner is somewhat similar to the one on the french 75. I used a small washer - and a bit of Milliput under the foot with superglue to form - what I think is called a "pod-foot". Doesn't look TOO bulky - the figure still looks lively - and he DOESN'T fall over.

Maybe if you tried somethin "low-tack" (which could be removed - if ever you wanted to cash in and sell him) - that might work??

Good work, Johnny,
Figures and Gun look great and a good solution with the base for the figure.

Yes, Al, it is indeed a well done model.
Here is a pic of an original, that I found.
It nicely shows the "screen".

The figures were produced without bases. Not the brightest idea. Still, they work and look ok when leaning on the gun. -- Al

This is my favorite set of the Premier collection of WWI figures.
It is set no. 41034 (Kilted Blackwatch Infantry).
