World War One (1 Viewer)

Hi Al,

Thanks for the note...It took me quite a few years to put them all together. As a late comer to the scene I regret not having been able to tap deeper in the wide selections offered by Mountford Miniatures, TAW, Hinchliffe, Trophy and other great makers that are no longer with us.......
In the shots I also have some Regal Toy Soldiers ( they are from a New Zealand manufacturer....very nice - French machine guns and US Marines 75 gun plus garrison ).
I have a keen interest in Artillery and WW1 so let us keep in touch.

Regards,

Fleury
Hi Fleury. The WW1 artillery is great stuff. My big regret is that no one has made a German 210mm gun. I love that gun. The Regal TS you speak of are the same ones I identified as SoW (Soldiers of the World). I have recently started to purchase some Regal figures as I love the high gloss finish. I haven't yet got to WW1 but they are next on my list. I am going to get Regal's early war French 75mm gun and crew along with the caisson. I will put it with my Britains Premier French 75 and gun crew. I used to have 4 Trophy and 1 TAW WW1 gun sets but I stupidly traded and sold them off some years ago. Biggest collecting mistake I have ever made. Always figured I could get them back but then everyone went out of business. Live and learn. Stay well. -- Al

Hi Al,

Share with you the same regret.....For some time there was an Austrian Heavy being sold by some US based trader, I cannot recall the manufacturer - please check the Artillery Fans Album, one of the members has an example and has added it to the album......Quite a brute!
Too bad that the German heavy calibers were never a hot topic with the UK based manufacturers and now that they are mostly gone.....slim are the chances of us getting one....The great source for heavy calibers for me has always ( was ) TAW.....I just did not get to acquire one last large caliber before they just went up in fin air...wish I had....9180.jpg2234.jpg2184.jpg......But then I am still going to keep an eye for one ...... may be some day these two will come up and I can add them to my lot.......For me things are even more complex, Brazil is not known for any ( zero ) toy soldier collecting, so all I have comes from travels and the internet....
Were I to be in the US or UK ...humm things could change.....
As to the Regal ( SOW ) do go for the French 75 with Adrian helmets and sky blue tunics, do not go for the early WW1 set with kepis, they are not as nice and miss a lot from the actual French uniforms at the begining of the war. I bought one, did not like it and traded......
Another great source for WW1 sets is Scalelink in the UK. The caveat here is that you either assemble them your self or you have some one to do it for you, Scalelink only sells kits. Having said that, Dave from Mountford is a great source for assembling the sets.....
Another great source - mainly focused on ANZAC - Gallipoli is WETS - Wilson Edwards Toy Soldiers in Australia....Craig is a great guy and a wide selection to go for......Great Turkish sets also..
Cheers
Fleury

These are some great artllery sets! Not only that, but you use a great combination of scenics! Nice shots!

Hi Fleury,
wonderful sets you got there and very well displayed.
Sure can understand why you went "crazy" about the artillery :wink2: ^&grin
Some more Britains figures here, showing different types of transportation.

Hi Konrad,
After I saw your shots, it dawn on me that I forgot to add to my pics the motorbike combination from the machinegun Regiment and the Service Wagon - both from the Premier series....These were nice sets issued by WB back when they were solo.....Now that First Gear owns Britians, the high quality craftsmanship they traditionally apply to the Big American Trucks I can see trickle into the WW1 and other seeries.....
What they have to do is start adding some bigger sets, and not only single or mini sets ( machinegun sets etc..). In the past they sold a WW1 Bulldog Truck and it could be a great opportunity for them to benefit from it to grow offerings...Search light, AA guns or Renault Tank transport....
Here is the referred truck......

That is a sweet truck!:smile2: Something else for me to look for . . . :rolleyes2:

Hi Louis,
Thanks.
It is a great truck. First Gear offered it for some time on their regular catalogue, and from time to time it pops up on e-Bay.
It comes with the markings of the US Army as they would be in WW1....Would love to see it back and with additional offerings.....
Later on I will add one of an ambulance and a Military Postal service Ford Model T ( These I tend to forget at the back of the shelf whenever I take photos........need to fix that....
Fleury

That is indeed a very nice truck.
Would love to add that to my WWI items.
Thanks for posting these picks.
Also looking forward to see the ambulance you mentioned.
Konrad

Got lucky on ebay a few days ago and was able to add this nice Dodge Ambulance to my collection.
This vehicle comes with a driver and a nurse on the passenger side.
The other figure, shown in the pics, is from a different set.

Hi Konrad,

Congratulations! Once again, you have managed to acquire a wonderful addition to your collection. Your WWI collection is growing impressively. If I was not already so committed to other lines, I would be right behind you searching for all these WWI jewels! My compliments for a terrific addition to your collection!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :smile2:

Konrad and Fleury,
Guys,
I am not a glossy collector, but I must say that I have totally enjoyed watching this thread progress.
Outstanding collections fellas. Keep'em coming. This is what this Forum should be all about.
Cheers from the Land Downunder, Howard

Cheers
