…apparently today is 'World Whisky Day'......as if there needs to be a reason !

...one must obviously show support for such a fine thought.....especially as it is currently pouring down outside, I may as well pour something down the inside...."today's rain is tomorrow's whisky"...as the saying goes...

...and with the help of Messrs Balvenie, BenRiach, Glendronach & Aultmore…..I hope to do the day proud....

...so, "Here's tae us, wha's like us?"...…..and enjoy whichever dram suits your mood....

.

I'm sure the big Texan "Mike Miller" is already celebrating the day! {sm3}:p^&grin

I did not know there was a international whisky day. It seems like a week would be more fitting.
From the American side a few good Kentucky Bourbons.

Now that's a good looking line-up! Those first two are an investment!

Thank You
I have been drinking them long enough from the same store that I can still acquire a few bottles of each a year and not get gouged.
Granted I no longer pay 79.00 for a 23 yr pappy like 10 yrs ago but I still am not paying the going rate.
I actually think the stag is the better than the Pappy's.

Good for you, you are quite lucky! I should offer you a trade in Toy Soldiers to be able to purchase a bottle of Pappy reasonably!!

I have learned to like Bourbon, after locating 2 Very famous name distilleries over the years (unfortunately an NDA prohibits me from disclosing who it is publically), but anyhow, learned a lot.

Funny story, as a high school/college, we drank Rebel Yell (the original at the time that was made in the Stitzel facility where the original Pappy was made). Paid about $15 a bottle for a half gallon, it was strong rot gut! Today, it is made by Luxor, a new recipe and wow, they now have a 10 year that is quite popular and it is a good drinking bourbon (at least I like it). So, back to the old rot gut, I just paid $450 for a 1960s full bottle, $300 each for 2 1990s European only Confederate Flag full bottles.....................................yeah that rot gut turned out to be a helluva investment for someone. I still have a few 90s/2000s bottles myself, but what I wish I had from the 80s.....

PS I am now enjoying Clyde Mays Alabama Whiskey which I think is actually distilled in Florida, gotta love marketing!

I am lucky Tom, I have a back up of 23 and 20 and 15 and a stagg and I keep them in my gun safe.
I figure anything goes wrong, the 23 and 20 are mortgage payments.
If not, I'll drink them.

....it's a bit of a stretch, but....World Whisky Day again....in the guise of today being Father's Day.....so these fine bottles have turned up...

...a selection consisting of a Glenfarclas 12, Fettercairn 12 (from our local distillery, very handy being so close!)….and then the brand new, just released this week, Balvenie 12 - 'The Sweet Toast of American Oak'.....already had a dram of this before breakfast, but don't tell anyone!

Just came back, Wednesday, from a 2 week distillery tour in Scotland with a friend (wife not interested). Brought back 7 bottles inluding several straight from the cask. Once in a lifetime trip. Chris

...hopefully we were all friendly enough (and enjoy the rain!)...were you able to visit a wide spread of regions to sample the different tastes.....Highland / Island / Speyside / Islay? Highland & Speyside usually works for me....but then again, it would be rude not to try whatever gets handed over!

...I can almost visualise the journey based on the distilleries...very nice scenery around there.....from Campbeltown, Islay, Banffshire & Inverness-shire....a great way to spend the day...

I remember getting a 5th of Crown Royal at the Class Six in Japan for $15 bucks...man those were the days.

Suntory whiskey in Japan is like nothing I have ever had before...MIZU WATI...yes!

Father's Day is just about to come to an end here, in the U.K. 16th of June. As it happens my older son had a birthday yesterday,(coincidentally he was also born on Father's Day some years back). I received from him a bottle of Jura and his sister gave him a bottle Highland Park , from Orkney. So with the accompaniment of some fine cheese and oat cakes a very mellow night could be had. If I was being greedy one would add a bottle of Lagavulin to the menu -- this Islay Malt has that peatiness much loved by many. Nectar for the Gods, enjoyed by man.

Slàinte mhòr!

Eveyone, without exception, was very friendly and kind. First went to Scotland in the 80s while in the AF. We'd fly to RAF Luechars, now closed, for a week and try the Scotch. :smile2: Always wanted to go back for an in depth experience.

We flew into Glasgow and took car ferry to Campbelltown. Visited Springbank and Glen Scotia. Tastings and tours were very personable, many tastings straight from the cask. :salute:: Took another ferry to Islay. Beautiful country and lovely distilleries along the coast. Made all the distilleries ther except one.

Next dorve to Speyside via a beautiful drive along Loch Ness. Did the four hr tour of Glenfiddich. Got a small bottle from a 1998 sherry cask to bring home. Visited Culloden battlefield and Blackwatch museum. I think we did about 12 distilleries, a small faction to be sure.

Weather was mostly good with a few rain days here and there. Great trip and would love to return. Chris PSX_20190616_190725.jpg
