WW 1 Centenary Diorama (1 Viewer)

On a serious note, without Jack none of this project would have got off the ground, we have a very long way to go still and it could all turn out to be a total flop yet. The first idea was Jacks and it has grown from there, all the behind the scenes work has and will be his, our logistics man, CFO and motivator if you will. He may even get me to wear a tie at the grand opening though I doubt it, he's good but not that good....:wink2::rolleyes2::salute::

Jack's Tux dry cleaned and trousers let out (the dry cleaners shrunk them one size last time) - Tick

Nothing has been left to chance. Even the the tie you will wear for the promotional shots has been chosen and lies in a draw ready to go. The third base coach is waving us in (That's for you Al (Lancer)).

I pass this collage everyday on my way to work and have often thought about stopping one day and have a look inside. My father went to school there many years ago and holds a bowling record in the cricket hall with taking 7 wickets for 2 runs. This is a story he always told me so I don't know if it is quite correct. So now I have something else to look out for and you guy's are doing a great job. Can't wait to see the final product. Chris.

Um, shouldn't the velvet jacket be included in the clothing tick??{sm4}

If only the Great Train robbers had been as organised and professional as Jack's group, they'd have lived their lives in freedom and luxury!

I have to commend Jack for his vision here. He's been thinking about it all for ages and it will be magnificent when completed. Jack and I have admired the skill and knowledge of the others and knew that the success of it all would rest on their shoulders. They have delivered in spades!

Jack's comments about those dioramas at the AWM struck a chord. When I saw them, I dreamed of producing toy soldiers that would allow enthusiasts to do their versions. I got it partly there but Jack and the others are really carrying the torch. I am sure some students will look and look and look and at some point the spark will flame into something fascinating.

Well done those men!

Well done Martin!

Thanks John.

It was quite the revelation watching them at work. If it had been left up to me, I would have built a table top, added four walls, poured in the sand and then set the figures up. They are a talented group although they are the 'wear their caps' inside kind of guys and their protective footwear also leaves a bit to be desired.

What was particularly interesting was that it invariably took time to get started, set things up, arrange the bits and pieces but once things began, it was a production line alright. I am looking forward to Sunday when the K&C ALH are set up and work begins on the Britains/TG trench attack. My father has almost finished a Neiuport and has also begun the Gotha so with the addition of some Jenkins KoTS and Dad's Pfalz, Fokkers, Einedecker and Bristol we will have quite an aerodrome happening.

Jack

Congratulations to all concerned in this project(especially,it seems,to Jack for starting it off).Hope you go ahead with your idea of having Brett's K&C 2014 gathering in close proximity to it.

As close as we can get to it without sitting on the diorama case!

If you get to Brisbane early I will give you a tour of the College's cattle yards. Small, but they do well at the shows. The College brand is one of the oldest brands in continuous use in Queensland. As a city boy I was mocked for one day referring to the Cattle Club environs humorously as a 'petting zoo'.

How is your collection going? Still collecting 'horsies'?

Jack

Got me in one there.Yes,I still collect cavalry and especially horse drawn artillery and military vehicles~cheaper and more interesting than tanks~in my opinion anyway.Actually I have just finished building myself a new set of cattle yards~it took me three months, but cutting down ironbark trees, barking them, cutting them into 12' posts(9 to 10" in diameter) ramming them 4'6" into the ground and then cutting and tying rails onto them is hard work for an old man.I,d rather be building toy soldier dioramas.

I tip my old kepi to you all for what I am sure will be a stunning display and for such a worthy cause. I would love to have been involved in your project but instead look forward to viewing the end result-Well done gentlemen.

Bob,
Next time you are down under please pay us a visit you would be most welcome. We hope this project will be a long running affair so just maybe in the future you could time a visit and be involved, I can see a grand civil war dio some where down the track, always a spare bed at my place mate. :)

Thanks for the kind words. It is exciting to be part of a project such as this. As no doubt you discover at the London Shows, direct contact with other collectors adds another dimension to the hobby, one that is impervious to issues such as rising prices. As for Wayne's hope that we might do an ACW dio, at least in the short term that will prove difficult. Not one of the group actually has any!

Jack

Grabbed a few shots of a Desert Tiger from CS. Looks like a North Africa dio will follow the ALH!

You know we have to blow that tiger up to be allowed in any North Africa dio, how much do you like it.....:wink2:

Jack has been a little modest about his contribution to this project, firstly without him the floors don't get swept, then there is no-one to open the college doors without him doing so but most importantly without Jack who would get our lunch! And of course someone has to take all the photo's, and mocking his ideas is just par for the course anyway.:wink2:^&grin
Wayne.

As I sit melting in the 41 Celsius heat, I am reminded --- don't forget the drinks! Jack is the best of hosts....and also has some serious talent for dio's as the forum well knows. He just feels the need to excel at everything - including self-deprecation :)
