Yeomanry Miniatures (1 Viewer)

You are correct with regard to the figures depicted there, johnny, although a lot of the pictures showing rescue workers wearing normal khaki helmets, presumably anything that was available was pressed into service at that time. There is a female inside the van leaning on the counter. All the figures were sculpted by Alan Caton. Trooper

Hi Johnny,

Although Alan sculpted the figures for Dave Love they are about a head taller than his normal size. The set comprises a girl leaning on the counter, from the inside, in a dress and apron. An Auxillary Fire Serviceman leaning on the counter in his double breasted tunic and boots chatting up the girl behind the counter. An ARP warden, in overalls, standing talking to a policeman who is taking notes and a second ARP man leaning on the front mudguard (fender I think our American friends call it) smoking a cigarette.

So five figures painted which I can let you have for £35.00 o.n.o.

Regards,

Brian.

Ah! - NOW I get it - so it's a wartime scene then, during WW2? The ARP's are Air Raid Precaution Volunteers then (You rarely see these in films - just hear "Put that ruddy light out!"). As there are two of these, I assume these would have the white helmets on? [I must pay more attention to episodes of "Dad's Army"!]
ARP.jpg

So the AFS one is from the Auxilliary Fire Service - and presumably he's the one wearing the wellies and getting served - and the Policeman is almost obscured - but must be the one wearing the dark tin helmet at the far end. Is that right?

Sorry for the errors - but being just a callow youth - I almost missed that conflict - just catching the tail end of it - so can't remember, first hand, seeing anyone dressed like that. Is there also any figure inside the Canteen serving - picture is a bit fuzzy there?

You see, I CAN remember the Civil Defence bods - as some of them used to practice on a site near where I lived as a lad during the 1950's. As , we often used to see them (from afar) practicing getting other volunteers, acting as casualties, out of "damaged" buildings - so without the above info - assumed that's what they were.

Any ideas on who originally sculpted the figures - was it Dave Love? A nice little grouping that one.

Whadda mistaka I maka! Thanks for the clarification, Trooper. johnnybach

Hi again,

Forgot to mention, I also have anumber of the low relief buildings available if you are interested.

Brian.

Thanks both for the clarification on FIVE figures.

Now then, I would REALLY like to have the whole thing - including the vehicle - and being a painter - would MUCH prefer to have all pieces as castings. You see, painting is really MY hobby. I just amass the figures I paint - rather than JUST collect them! (Hope that makes sense, but for me it is an important distinction). The fun of it, for me - is in doing some of the creative work for myself.

I understand from Trooper - that Asset has the vehicle (though it isn't in their catalogue). Do they also carry the five figures as castings? If so - I'll drop them an e-mail.

Sorry to appear so pedantic - but if I have the figures - I will also need the vehicle - and if I can get them all to paint - that is what I would prefer to do.

So, thanks for the offer Brian - but I'll put your offer on hold, if I may, until I can find out whether I can get the whole thing in my preferred unpainted finish, if that's okay with you.

P.S. I still want your YM casting version of the Naafi Mobile Canteen mind - and (hopefully) customers - once you get it done.:D

No problem Johnny, although I think you'l find that the figures may cost more from Asset as castings than they do from Yeomanry Miniatures as painted figures. I'm just selling off these items on behalf of Mountford Metal Miniatures.

Once they're gone they're gone, there will not be a chance to get them again at these prices.

Brian.

Thanks for the information Brian. I quite understand - and have e-mailed Asset to try and find out whether they have either the vehicle and/or figures as unpainted castings. If I find out that they have the vehicle only - I will just have to take my chances on whether you have any left - or not - which I can then strip and re-paint (though that would seem a bit selfish of me - and I would rather leave them for others who can't do that). I imagine that they may not last long - as they would look great with any mobile canteen scenario.

If it turns out that way though - and they are all gone - then I guess I'll just have to do what I normally do when I'm trying to do something new - which is hunt around for something - to make up for myself. As I mentioned earlier - doing that - and painting them - really IS my hobby - rather than just collecting. I don't think that I would be in the hobby at all - if I couldn't do this - as I have never seen the fun in just purchasing ready-painted figures. I'm sure others do - and I'm not knocking them for it - but I tried it to begin with - and it just isn't for me.

Hope the 1st Lifeguards are progressing nicely - johnnybach:D

Johnny,

If they have two casting of the vehicle, and you would be interested in a commission, I'll buy the second, and would be happy to commission you to paint it for me. If you would like, I could take the already painted figures from Brian, to save you the time and effort of painting a second set of figures. Let me know if you are interested.:smile2:

Hi Louis - You have "the bug" as well then, it seems:D

I have yet to hear back from Anne or Colin at Asset - which isn't unusual at all - are they are self-confessed - not very computer savvy. When I do - I will pose the question - and if they have two vehicles - surely - I'd be happy to paint another for you and post it when completed if you like. I always do a second version best - so you can have the first one^&grin!

But seriously, let's sort out if they have a couple first - then we will work the rest out from there. johnnybach

Just had a brainwave (it happens occasionally) - and rang Asset on the phone. Anne confirmed that they could do a couple of vehicles and one set of five castings of the figures for me - though it isn't in their catalogue yet. Anne also advised me, unsurprisingly, that she has not sold one yet, as she doesn't have all of the parts yet - so couldn't confirm whether they come as a kit of parts - or ready made up - but she will order what we want from her supplier - and advise me of the costs later. The vehicle is part resin and part metal, by the way.

So Louis - I have ordered one for you - so suggest you contact Brian for the painted figures. As to painting the vehicles - I will be over in the UK at the end of May - but won't be able to begin painting the vehicles until July - as I'm off to New Zealand for a couple of months - almost immediately. You would have to wait a bit - Would that be okay for you?

I'll wait to paint mine until later. johnnybach

Cor - you would have to be well over 6 feet tall to get served from that monster! I would never reach up high enough to get my cup? I s'pose they could drop down a tube - and bung a cuppa in a funnel? How about a doughnut and a date darlin'?:wink2: Hang on - I'll parachute one down - and we don't do dates, shorty!;)

Nah! - Don't fancy that Buster - poorly designed that one. Preferred your Fordson to this one. jb

I know how you feel Johnny I only wish I had the time to build up a collection of my own figures! The only figures I have ever bought painted were Dave Sparrow's Drill Square figures but that stopped when he sold the range to MKL and the standard dropped dramatically. These days I don't get much time to do any figures for myself. To relax I find myself painting Games Worshop's Space Marines 'cause they're different. Maybe I'll post some pictures one day.

Regards,

Brian.

Pity that you're so busy with "the job" that you can't do some for yourself nowadays Brian - though I guess that would be a bit "Bread and Bread"? As you may have seen - I seem to have been able to find another castings version of the Humber MC and figures - but thanks again for thinking of me.

Yes - please do show us some of your Space Marines ( whatever they are?) - all part of the fun. I keep on spotting modern versions of "Toy Soldiers" - mostly in plastic now - in shops everywhere. They may have changed the look of them - but the "collecting things to play with" bug - seems to be as strong as ever. jb.

The time frame is absolutely fine with me, and thank you for grabbing the bull by the horns. I will purchase the figures from Brian. Also, I will be happy to paypal you the money you laid out to purchase the kit immediately. Just let me know how much and where to send it in a PM.

Brian,

Johnny has graciously agreed to paint one of the asset vehicles for me, and indicated that I could purchase your painted figures to go with the vehicle he will paint, as he prefers to paint his own. Please e-mail or PM me and I will arrange payment.

Hi Louis - having dealt with Anne and Colin from Asset Miniatures, many times before, I know that they will never cash a cheque - until they post off the goods to me. I will therefore let you know - once I do. Anne told me she has to get all of the bits and pieces of the kits together first - but again from past experience, they won't be outrageous. :D

Ill let you know - as you suggest - in a PM - once I know.

Sounds good - a Naafi version AND a YMCA one. Superb!{sm4}

Quite right johnny, that beast shows no consideration at all to the vertically impaired, you'd have to have awfully long arms to nick the spoon off that one. RIGHT, the Fordson it is then ..... oh, okay ..... the Austin it is. ^&grin

You do know I suppose that www.accuratearmour do a Fordson model of a Mobile Canteen, Buster?:smile2:

We will have to start a new Treefrog saying - You can never have too many Mobile Canteens!:cool:

I also have no more need of spoons - as I don't have sugar any more! Not even on a doughnut! However forks are still very nice!{sm3}

Well jb, I knew you must have nicked that picture you post from somewhere, but I didn't know where. Anyway, after a little searching around it seems the Fordson in question is a kit which means you'd have to build it and paint it for me as I am kit building and painting impaired and as you seem to be all booked up and busy-busy for the foreseeable future that won't do. So once again I say, I'll gladly go with the Austin :rolleyes::tongue:, it seems to be the popular choice.^&grin

Must be tough to eat your porridge with a fork? ^&grin

When I was a child - we were so poor - we thought knives and forks were jewelry (Jimmy Tarbuck - circa 1840){sm3}

Very busy I'm afeared old sport. Orders from Asset, ATS, Dorset, Fusilier, Irregular Mins, RP World Mods, WhiteTower, WhitemetalMail, & Yeomanary Mins either queued up to do, ordered - or stockpiling in the UK waiting for me to collect. (Support your local Cottagers). Other local "finds" - or vicnic pieces waiting too. Then there's the garden and veggie-plot. I seem to get busier each year.{eek3}

As for porridge with a fork - the way I make it - is there any other way to eat a slice? :D
