Oz - Thanks for the Angels, I had never heard of them I am afraid.

Matt - you quiet jazz fan you. Like you I like melodic jazz, this is great - I have not listened to him before. I might post some melodic jazz sometime, but your last post reminded me of this.

At the time and since - it was one of the best twin rock guitar solos I can ever remember. Tragic loss.

The Angels are still touring Kev, albeit with a few member changes, so many great musicians seem to pass early in their life, sometimes due to their addictive lifestyle sadly.

Yes, liking Jazz was a surprise to me as well, something to do with getting older I guess, I'll be buying antique furniture next :D

Here's some other Cool/Smooth Jazz tunes from my Playlist, John Coltrane obviously better known:

Frank Morgan...Round Midnite

Grant Green...Born to Be Blue

John Coltrane...After the Rain

Matt - I have not listened much to Coltrane and not heard of Grant Green, so thanks for sharing these, they are lovely tracks with great playing.

I just love a good melody and solos that enhance the music and not ruin it by 'going off on one'. I was weaned on big band jazz, so I also appreciate a tight band.

Stan Kenton was a bandleader that was always keen to innovate and towards the end of his life exerimented with time (i.e. not just 3/4 or 4/4 time). As long as it was a good tune I liked it. Saw the band a few times before he passed, fantastic concerts all of them.

I hope this plays ok.

On another note, John Coltrane's 'After the Rain' reminded me of 'Rain' from the Xbox Halo 3 ODST game. I may have mentioned I spent many hours playing the various Halo games, some great memories playing against my sons as well some very immersive solo games. Halo 3 ODST was perhaps the most lonely and melancholic of the series, over 8 hours of solo exploration of a battle ravaged city at night, encountering danger and surprise at every turn.

Halo 3 ODST had an incredible soundtrack, mostly Blues/Jazz that increased the loneliness, sounds depressing but it remains one of the best games from a hugely popular franchise.

Here's an 'expert' reaction to one of the tunes from the soundtrack.

Marty O'Donnell...Rain Deference for Darkness.

Sorry Matt, never played this.

The soundtrack is good enough to listen to and I can imagine it may affect the mood, but it is not probably likely to distract you from actually playing the game - a tricky balance for the game makers I would imagine.

Sorry to say Kev, that your video didn't work, may be best to stick to Youtube as the videos on their platform usually work ok, not always of course.

I'm not surprised you haven't played any Halo games Kev, they are First Person Shooter games, mainly developed for Preteen and Teenagers plus the occassional Nerdy Sci Fi guys like me, I absolutely loved the games, some more than others. Marty O'Donnell composed most of the Soundtracks for the Halo games, imo the soundtrack adds a lot to the game play, same as Movies, the tunes are of course more dramatic in the combat sections of the games.

Thanks Matt, I was on you tube but obviously chose the wrong option. I shall try again.

Sixteen men swinging can make a lot of noise! (So can rock bands?)

I don't like all of his stuff but the Album 'Kind of Blue', by Miles Davies is reportedly voted best jazz album ever.

This is the title track.

Miles Davis is certainly one of the best Kev, I have 'Blue in Green' on my playlist as I'm not a fan when Trumpets are too loud, which I agree is 'unusual' as I like loud Heavy Rock and even some Metal tracks, there's just something about LOUD BRASS that doesn't agree with my hearing  :D

As well as early Blues/Jazz I have several 'modern' musicians on my Spotify 'Chill, Blues, Jazz' play list.

Christian Kuria...Deep Green

Mac Ayres...Waiting

Boz Scaggs...Harbor Lights (extended version)

Matt, I prefer the Boz Scaggs song of these. I am not a great fan of falsetto singing (apart maybe some (only) of the Bee Gees). My version of loud trumpets?

I do like the wide range of effect you can create with a full jazz band, but only when it is melodic.

Another best rated Album - Ellington at the Newport Jazz Festival 1956. I managed to see the band live - such great musicians, but only after the great man had passed - his son Mercer Ellington lead the band.

A couple of tracks - not too much loud trumpets but some ... some very good solos and orchestral blues though.

And now for something completely different - love this!

I'm not a fan of falsetto either, there's no Bee Gee songs on my play list, he sounds more like a tenor with echo effects to me. I have several Five Finger Death Punch songs on my rock play list, great band.

'there's no Bee Gee songs on my play list' - me neither.

We are both Bee Gee free 😂

As for Mac Ayres, he does sing some high notes, but not as high as this dude 😟

Sarah Brightman & Fernando Lima...Pasion

And now for something completely different;

Slash & Chris Stapleton...Oh Well (cover)

Sarah Brightman & Fernando Lima...Pasion - I pre-thought this would not be my cup of tea, but quality is quality.

I have the Peter Green Fleetwood Mac version of Oh Well on disc, I like the track very much. The Slash version is also really good, thanks.

Judas Priest and their lead singer with a really good range. I have had Sad Wings of Destiny since the seventies, fantastic album. Here is a track.

Sarah is quality viewing, your video is unavailable to me, so not sure which track but I also like Judas Priest, here's my fav track;

Judas Priest...Painkiller

The track is showing to me but ends with a radio 1 tag so may be limited to UK? I'll try again.

If the album tracks are blocked see if this 1982 live version works - not as good as the album track imo but still good.

I have the Painkiller, British Steel albums and others, but Sad Wings of Destiny is their best imo. Here goes.

I was fortunate enough to see Judas Priest 5-times back in the '80's. They always put on a terrific show. My first ever concert was Judas Priest headlining and Iron Maiden opening. I was also lucky enough to be at Radio City Music Hall for the Iron Maiden Piece of Mind tour. The show opened with the face of Winston Churchill giving the famous "never in the course of human endeavor" speech about the RAF and then Iron Maiden launched into Aces High. Just amazing. The hair still stands up on the back of my nec when I think about it. I've seen a million shows, from the Rolling Stones, Clapton, Foghat, ZZ Top, Van Halen and just about every punk and metal band you can name, and those Judas Priest and Iron Maiden shows stand out as the ones I enjoyed most.

That's a good cover, like most people I assumed some guy from 'Steppenwolf' wrote that song, but not so, was this guy:

Born to be Wild...Mars Bonfire
