The first couple of sets are definitely early, and probably sold individually, because I see a few with two officers. Lovely haul.

AL Beautiful stuff and photos! Where do you find this stuff;) You have it seems a good mix of the old and vintage stuff.

Thank you, JW
There are a lot of Trophys still out there for reasonable prices, finding them just requires a lot of leg work and talk :) Trophy made thousands of them...and who can could afford to by them at eBAy after all :D. Check out a special promo for Forbes Collection sale at Christie's, I posted in another thread...I will post more pictures later today...

Well here are some recent results of my "leg work" ...first versions I guess...Austrian sailors are my favorite...
Al

The BS9 Austria-Hungary Advancing Sailor Set is also one of my favorites, too. It took me more than 15 years to finally acquire this set two years ago. My version has the smooth gray bases. Although I prefer the scupts for the newer version BS40 Austria-Hungary Advancing Sailor Set, I did not buy it because it has terrain bases.

I have the BS1A Royal Marine Light Infantry Set. My set has all the men kneeling firing. I wonder if you have BS1 (no A)?

My BS8 Japan -The Firing Set has all the figures standing firing, but with smooth, thinner cobblestone gray bases.

Al and Mike,

Trophy originally sold their Boxer line by the individual soldier. I'm guessing Al's Royal Marines were purchased that way, as well as a number of the other "sets" on display.

Dave,

I believe you are correct. In fact, it appears that the first four photographs are composed of individual figures. Only the last photo of BS31/V USA Advancing Infantry is a regular set. Note the thinner bases.

Thank you, Dave and Mike,
I think you are right. Some of these sets came in "red and white" boxes sold by two PA dealers (see the picture), but the rest came in standard later red Trophy boxes.
A lot of Trophy figures came in 3-4 generations and you can clearly see all changes only when you put them side by side. I will post side by side pictures for for several generations of AZW 24th regiment a bit later.

Mike,

Good to see you back again :)

Thanks Brad. How can I make my photos larger? Either the ones with the bar to click on to expand or otherwise. When I reduce my photos to under 100 pixels to meet the forum's standard, they are too small. Thanks.

Mike, you might consider trying a hosting service, which will allow for bigger photos. There are plenty of folks on here who can help on how that is done.

Checking into your enquiry re. Boxers.I recall re making the prone firing set this could explain the two listed. For the life of me I cannot fgure out what FAR2 refered to.Have a friend looking into it he has the most complete set of archive material,Be in touch,Regards Len

Hi ,The A after a reference was to indicate this was the second production mould to be made ,the masters would be the same.
Regards Len Taylor

Len,

Thanks. It is very good hearing from you. I am looking forward to receiving more input from you on this and on other questions . For example, I found it interesting that you made eight Royal Welsh Fusilier sets (i.e., BS22 and BS42through BS48) and yet did not make sets of Italian or German sailors. Andrew Rose's Bastion line of Boxer Rebellion sets (nice figures, but not in Trophy's class) has those sailor sets and the RWF.

Best regards.

Hi Rererence your comment "they made thousands of them" in fact we never made thousands of anything. Our production target in the latter years was 1200 units a week,a unit was a foot figure a mounted one three, this figure excluded equipment ,boats etc.
When I first released the Boxer figures the sales were so poor I thought about dropping them then sales slowly picked up and more figures were made. The most fun we had was making the Dragon Gun ,quite a lot of the gun detail had to be imagination, but it turned out to be one of the best sellers, incidently we made a later gun crew for it.
Regards Len

Hey Mike,As we were able to use figures from other periods for the R.W.F sets no extra costs were involved. There were always plans to produce new sets ,but I recall the sales on the last couple of sets produced hardly covered the development costs,so future sets were put on hold.Best Wishes,Len

Sorry, Len,
I just quoted Jim Hillistad's article from "Toy Soldier Magazine" that reads "Production rose to 50,000 figures per year. Over the course of Trophy's history, more then 3,000 different figures were produced..." It would be great to know "per range" split ( Naps, Sudan, ACW etc.) for later Trophy production .
The numbers for some "limited" sets like "Forbes Christie's figure" are always a mystery because nobody knows them but you :)
Thank you for sharing.
Al
