N.f.l. 2010 season (2 Viewers)

Peter, be careful what you wish for. The Skins have won a couple of those draft position races. Heath Shuler was one of our rewards. -- Al

It's ok....we'll forget to get to the podium in time and will slide a few spots anyway! We need the head start.

Never thought Vick could come back and play ball the way he is. That was one impressive 1st half. At least the Skins have shown some life and scored. Now if only the Skins defense can get their heads out of their as...uh...butts and play, maybe the final score can be respectable. I don't fool myself that they can close a 31 point gap, but they might shave some of it off. Boy, that 1st 20 minutes was UGLY. Are there do overs in the NFL? -- Al
59-28 is quite a bad beating. So, the good (?) news is, IF you throw out the 1st quarter, the Skins only lose 31-28, within the point spread. I don't know how a team can come out that flat and allow themselves to be blown out of the game within 10 minutes, on their home field. At least they didn't quit, that is, once they decided to play in the 2nd quarter. A very embarrassing 1st quarter and loss. Oh well, who's next? -- Al

At least they showed they could score 24 points.:p:( That might me one thing they are last in for the league.

I don't think it's a case of the Redskins allowing themselves to be blown out but a quarterback having a spectacular (and that's probably an understatement) first quarter and change. Sometimes you just have to credit the other team.

And they start a fight before the game with a lot of trash talking. LOL. A major embarrassment for the Skins, but what else can you expect with someone like Snyder running things? At least the throwback uniforms looked nice. Unlike Pittsburgh and Chicago who wore some of the most god awful looking uniforms in sports history.

I think I might start a movement to get Ted Leonsis (who owns the NHL Caps and NBA Wizards) drafted as the owner of the Skins and Orioles. Had enough of Snyder and Angelos. That would give Ted a franchise in each major pro sports league. Angelos and Snyder have just been disasters as owners. Time for them to go. As to the unis, well, I always preferred the arrow head helmets that went with the throwback colors, but the current ones will do. Now a really ugly uniform was the first year uniform worn by the Denver Broncos.:D Those vertical striped socks, in brown and yellow, were the cat's meow.:p -- Al

Was the re-signing of McNabb something orchestrated by Snyder or did it have Shanahan's endorsement?

I can't answer that, Brad. Haven't paid enough attention to the details. Just know that it is a lot of money for an aging QB that has no protection from the O line. Heck, McNabb might not last this season out, much less five more. I think McNabb is good, but I don't think he can overcome the O line problem. -- Al

I gotta ask the obvious question...as I turned off the game early 4th quarter...

when was Vick pulled and why did they wait so long...

Interesting question, Mike. As I watched the score go through the roof and the rain come down, I kept asking myself "why was Vick still in the game" as the risk of injury in a won game was obvious. Now, from a Skins fan point of view, Vick should have stayed in Philly, but from a Philly point of view, why risk Vick for so long? I don't think he needed the playing time. -- Al

Any thoughts on this 18 game season they are looking at? Not a fan.
I'm with you, Chris. This is a BAD idea. The players will just be open to even more injuries and I think there is no compelling reason to extend the season. -- Al

....... I think there is no compelling reason to extend the season. -- Al

Someone is going to make some $$ on this- or one would assume- that's the only reason I can see to do it.

I am assuming you remember the switch from 14 to 16 games (I don't :D) has there really been a big change since then, in your opinion?

LOL. Chris, I remember the switch from 12 games to 14.:D Initially, I thought 16 games was too many. With the exsisting playoff format, adding 2 more weeks (or three if another off day is added) is just too long a season, IMO. The season would end at the end of February, just in time for baseball's spring training to start. Hmmm.... If the NFL extends the season by going into August, I am even more oppossed. I can't get into August football. I actually liked the 14 game season. I think the NFL should go back to that, and drop the off week, do away with the stupid Thursday night game, (which most people can't see anyway), and make rule changes that give back some more power to the defense. Sorry, went off track. -- Al

Anything that will get me more football...I want...but got to agree...it's gonna be brutal fot the players...

It's always about the money, just as with the idea about expanding the baseball playoffs, another stupid idea.

Funny you mention that as I was thinking of you driving in to work this am and wondered if you remembered the 12 to 14 switch!! :D:eek:

I think you make excellent points which I agree with.

Skins looked like a real football team today in winning in OT at Tenn. They played well the whole game, including the here-to-fore hapless offensive line. Gives me hope for the future that they could play so bad 6 days ago and then come back to win today. They showed guts. -- Al

They gave me hope too Al but with a few additional concerns. McNabb finally played up to near expectation, although that interception was simply a poor choice; he needs to do better than that. The offensive line was down to its last five guys but interestingly played better than the starters have been doing; as Sam Huff and Sonny observed, Stephen Heyer was far superior at right guard than Artis Hicks has been. Of course now the next OL backup is the 3rd string tightend. The running back situation is still a bit scary; Keiland Williams played well but with Portis re-injured, he is now all they have as witnesses by the linebacker half back play. The defense held tough but they are missing LaRon Landry and the injury to Alexander is a bit scary as well. What a bust fat Albert continues to be. And then there is our interesting kicker; missing two FGs that would have won outright and finally nailing a long one for the win in OT. He is going to make all of us a bit more grey. Overall what I liked about this game was how well the team as a whole held together and played through all the injuries to key players and adversity. The Redskins of old were best know for their guts and as Joe Gibbs might have said, for this one "They fought their guts out."
