Terps beat mighty Howard 70-0. Lol:rolleyes2: Go Terps
Chris, it was actually 79-0 and only after the Terps deliberately failed to score on the final drive. It was one point short of their all-time scoring record of 80, set sometime back in the late 1920's, I think. I hope Howard uses the money they got for a good purpose.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Interesting info for the day:

Since the playoff started the only player to win the Heisman on a team that didn't make the playoff is Lamar Jackson.

#11 Oregon outplayed #16 Auburn for first three qtrs I thought. But Auburn came back in 4th qtr with freshman QB, who played well, not great, to beat the Ducks. Chris

Florida State blows large lead at home...………………………………...Taggart's done IMO. They can't afford to have another year like last year, this is going to get ugly.

Quote from local "pro team"reporter from press conference:

They had an 18-point lead at home, in suffocating heat, against a team from Idaho with a true freshman at quarterback, and still found a way to lose.

Good news: My Trojans eeked out a win over Fresno St.

Bad news: they lost their starting QB for the season. The guy he beat out plans to transfer which leaves them with a freshman QB to play out the rest of the season. Beginning with Stanford next week. Long season ahead with numerous beatdowns in store. The PAC can't catch a break. The Ducks outplayed Auburn and still lost.

UofL, coming off a 2-10 season and gave up over 50 points a game in the last half of the season, put up a surprisingly good fight against Notre Dame losing 35-18 last night. Chris

In the battle of actual colleges #7 Stanford beat #10 Northwestern, 17-7.

Colleges from the 1930s? I think I saw the ghost of the four horsemen during that game. They could have worn leather helmets and called plays like "hey diddle, diddle, this time we run up the middle." Shaw's motto is "winning ugly is still winning." It has mostly worked for him though. Interested to see how Stanford matches up with USC this weekend. Both could be without their starting QBs which likely is an advantage for the Trees. My guess is that Stanford plays a conservative, field position game by stuffing the run and pressuring the young SC QB into making plays/mistakes. If so Stanford wins 17-6 but it feels more like 40-0. If SC can shake loose their WRs and make some plays, then it might be interesting.

Taggart is blaming the FSU collapse on the "dehydration" like Adam Sandler in "The Waterboy." Not exactly inspiring confidence to a team that plays in a warmer climate. "You can do it" Coach Taggart! That is my favorite excuse since the TN coach compared his team to the Germans on D-Day.

Ugh, yup. He knows he is in trouble down there, they can't afford another 2018 debacle, it literally costs millions as well as recruits. The tribe is getting restless and I think he will be walking on hot coals quick with a swift kick in the rear on the way out the door.

They can hire Clay Helton when USC fires him this season. Nice guy but dumb as a brick. His lowlights from the first game. On the opening kickoff, SC returns it 60 plus yards only to have it called back because two players on the return team are wearing the same jersey number. Late in the game with his starting QB injured and a true freshman in his first game, all he has to do is kneel down and game over. Helton puts him in the shotgun, however, and he comes a whisker away from fumbling the snap. There were plenty of others like trying to sit on a lead but snapping the ball or calling TOs with 20 plus seconds on the play clock. Maddening.

Have to rub my eyes in disbelief as the UMd Terps currently lead #21 Syracuse 42-13 at the half. Last week's Terp victory over Howard was worthless in terms of competition and evaluating the team, but this is a game against a legitimate, ranked team and the Terps are tearing them a new one. Hope I don't jinx them in the second half, but I am impressed. -- Al

Terps win 63-20. Syracuse never had a chance, never in the game. Color me very surprised but very pleased. -- Al

Army has held Michigan all day. They are in OT at 14 all. Army missed a FG wide right at the gun to send it to OT. Come on Army. -- Al

Crap, Michigan survives 24-21 in OT. Army deserved to win this one. Outplayed Michigan on Michigan's home turf. Too bad. :( -- Al

Chris, having watched both games so far, I would say that the transfer Qb, Josh Wilson, is the big difference from past years. He has skill and appears to know what he's doing. -- Al

Florida State blows another 3 touchdown lead and survives in OT against...……………………….LA Monroe? Really? Taggart equals FIRED. He needs to go and fast. This is like the GD Titanic, you can see the iceberg, you know its coming, yet the agony will apparently continue...……………..

Al:

I get it, winning is all that matters.

However, Army has some of the strictest acedmic and moral requirements in college athletics (along with the other service academies). They have 0 sports scholarships. They "recruit" based on the fact that the young men and women who attend their school will someday lead others into battle, also known as life or death.

Meanwhile, over the last two years Army football has pushed schools like Oklahoma and Michigan to the brink. Two schools that all but waive academics in order to achieve football success.

While they didn't win either game, they proved that a college can be competitive in athletics while maintaining strict academic/leadership requirements.
