Al:

I get it, winning is all that matters.

However, Army has some of the strictest acedmic and moral requirements in college athletics (along with the other service academies). They have 0 sports scholarships. They "recruit" based on the fact that the young men and women who attend their school will someday lead others into battle, also known as life or death.

Meanwhile, over the last two years Army football has pushed schools like Oklahoma and Michigan to the brink. Two schools that all but waive academics in order to achieve football success.

While they didn't win either game, they proved that a college can be competitive in athletics while maintaining strict academic/leadership requirements.

Jason, I'm a huge Navy fan, but I always root for Army and Air Force, as well. Love to see them win their ball games against bigger opponents but really just enjoy the purity of the game that the service academies bring to the contest. Watching them is a lot of fun. -- Al

Miracle of miracles but my Trojans ended up blowing out Stanford 45-20 after falling behind 17-3. The freshman QB starting his first game for SC was outstanding. Reminded me a lot of Sam Darnold. Stanford is always a tough matchup given their physical play but they couldn't dominate the line like they have in past years. You never know what you are going to get in a college football game. LSU ended up with nearly 500 yards passing against Texas in a wild offensive game. I would have thought that would have been a game decided by the D.

All the sweeter for Trojan fans is that things are becoming unhinged in Westwood. UCLA is 0-2 now having lost to San Diego St. and Cincy. The Rose Bowl was practically empty last weekend. And wait for it - they are playing Oklahoma this week. LOL. Not to tempt fate, but I expect the Okies to win 100-3. The Rose Bowl will be filled with red. UCLA is actually giving free tickets away. Chip Kelly is one of those guys who somehow convinced others he is a coaching genius despite numerous examples to the contrary. He comes in, gets paid millions, his team collapses, he gets fired after a couple of years and the process is repeated elsewhere. A great gig. He should lose the tight fitting shirts though. They make him look like Randy-Bo-Bandy on Trailer Park Boys with his cheeseburger locker.

UM puts a whuppin` on ranked team. ^&confuse what's going on here? ^&grin. Praise fot backfield on ESPN. Chris

Dude, the TERPS are LEGIT this season!!! That offense is just crushing people.

The best game last weekend was the Army/Michigan game. For the life of me I don't understand why coach decided to throw a pass at 3rd and goal on the three when Michigan hadn't stopped their run game- a pick, a 97 yard drive, a Mich TD, and a 14 point swing- the game should have never gone to OT- the coach tried to be slick and blew it.

Oh well, they still look fantastic (and on the other end- Michigan looks Ate Up!!!). Should still be a great season.

Should have learned from Pete Carroll's SB mistake.

You couple their early success with the fact that they are still overcoming the past coaching regime's horrible mistakes and Maryland is a team and worth cheering for.

I like the Terps but they seem to look like world beaters until they play someone like Ohio St. or Michigan and then the walls come tumbling down.

As A UMD grad (1976), no one is rooting harder for them than I am, but I will reserve judgement on how good they are for a couple of more games. The program's recovery from it's problems is a tough slog and coupled with a really tough schedule (5 ranked teams), the Terps will have to be on their games almost every weekend to avoid a losing season, but I believe they can do it. The program is showing life and spirit that has been missing for a while now. -- Al

This is pretty accurate, bit I did note that Texas didn't have the Terps on their schedule this year. Guess they had enough.:wink2: -- Al

The earth has spun off it's axis and one result is the UMd Terps are ranked #21 this week. I guess that's what averaging 71 PPG gets you.:rolleyes2::wink2: -- Al

Their basketball team averaged 71.3 points per game last season. ^&grin

Don't you just know it. Temple v UMd, a collision of high-powered offenses, and what have we got but a 7-2 Temple lead going to the half. The UMd QB, after looking so good the first 2 games, is playing like he has never seen a football. UMd has bungled 2 fourth down plays, failed to score from inside the 5 on a first and goal, and has missed a FG. UMD has 0 (zero) points on offense. Shades of yesteryear.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Yeah, ESPN said pretty much same thing "They look like the 5 win team of last yr." :rolleyes2: Chris

Things have improved a little since the half as UMd has scored a pair of TDs to lead 15-13 late in the 3rd. Even so, the Terps blew a conversion. They just look out of sync. -- Al

Temple wins 20-17. This was an ugly, and unnecessary loss. Terps had 1st and goal on three separate drives (two drives late in the 4th quarter) and could not score a single point. They were stopped dead on 4th and goal all three times. The offensive line was just embarrassed as the Temple defense stuffed the Terps on every down of those 3 drives. Lots of work needed as the flirtation with a Top 25 ranking proved to be an illusion. This game should have been won by the Terps. -- Al

Pitt had it first and goal inside the one down 17-10 with about five minutes left to Penn State, they threw it two of the three downs, then instead of going for it on fourth down, they tried a chip shot field goal.

And it got drilled off the left upright.

What a tire fire.

Well the glory days didn't last long for my Trojans. Blown up by BYU in OT. Brutal. If BYU can push you around, then it's going to be a long season.

After beating Florida last yr,for the first time in 31 yrs, UK loses again. Had the lead for 3 qtrs and gave up 19 unanswered points in the 4th qtr. The football universe is back on its axis. Both teams used back uo qb's, regular starters out for the season. Chris
