NCAA Football 2019 (1 Viewer)

After beating Florida last yr,for the first time in 31 yrs, UK loses again. Had the lead for 3 qtrs and gave up 19 unanswered points in the 4th qtr. The football universe is back on its axis. Both teams used back uo qb's, regular starters out for the season. Chris

Probably little solace but Temple is no cupcake.

Temple was a much better team than I expected, just the type that would expose the Terps. I wasn't aware just how good Temple was until I watched the game and listened to the announcers recite the accomplishments of the Temple program. Still, the Terps could have and should have won that game. -- Al

The Terps have Michigan, Ohio St. and Penn St on their schedule. That's brutal and they get Michigan and Ohio St in back to back games. I'm curious to see if they can be competitive in those games. They get Michigan at home. So they might have a shot in that game but I see them getting pounded by the Buckeyes on the road.

Yep, the Terps have a brutal schedule, no doubt. Maybe they can give the OSU boys a fight like they did last year, when they took them to OT before losing. -- Al

I think the Terps will be competitive against the Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State this year. Plus, at this point I think they are simply trying to improve by winning the games that they should win, ie beating Indiana, Rutgers etc. From there they can recruit, build the program and one day beat the likes of Michigan etc. However that isn't going to happen over-night, especially in college football.

Big game in the PAC tonight. SC and Utah. Probably decides the winner in the PAC south. Also goes a long way in determining whether Helton loses his job. After that BYU lose, the guillotine is ready to fall. SC fans are clamoring for Urban Meyer to take his place but its not going to happen. Meyer is scandal plagued. With all of the problems they've had at SC, the new president is not hiring him.

Not pretty but my Trojans are holding serve at halftime. Utah is a physical team but likely overrated at #10. They might end up blowing SC out but they are in a game right now. SC has their third string QB playing.

Big character building win! Somehow SC was able to run the ball when they had to at the end. Wow, what a physical battle!

Yes, that was a great game. Lots of penalties and SC beats the #10 team with their third string QB playing almost the whole game. Utah is one of those teams that gets talked up until they play someone. They also are not the same on the road. They haven't won in LA since 1916.

Fool that I am, I got hooked on the UCLA vs #19 Washington St. game and was up until 2:30 am because of it. Don't care about either team but it was one of the most remarkable offensive explosions I've ever seen. UCLA went into the game 0-3, #19 WSU undefeated. UCLA trailed 49-17 halfway through the 3rd quarter and appeared to be finished. Wrong. UCLA scored 50 points in the remaining quarter and a half, eventually winning the game 67-63 in regulation time. I've seen some really high scoring games with both teams scoring huge points like this, but they went to OT. The UCLA Qb threw for 507 yards and 5 TD, while the WSU Qb was even better, throwing for 570 yards and 9 (!) Tds. WSU threw for 9 TDs and still came up short! Just unbelievable. Of course, in a game that featured almost 1400 yards of total offense, there was a total lack of defense excepting for turnovers, which killed WSU, who had 6 of them. Finest example of Pin-ball Football I can remember. -- Al

The Terps took a major beatdown 59-0. They put up a graphic that said Penn St. has outscored MD something like 86-3 in the first half of their last three meetings. And the Terps have Ohio St. and Michigan coming up.

Yeah, as I feared, Terps fast start was just an illusion. They still have a lot of work to do to be able to stay on the field against ranked opponents. Also have #25 MSU to be played. Terps had 5 ranked teams on the schedule, which is rough for even good teams. Even those wussy teams like Clemson and Alabama only have a combined total of 4 ranked teams on their schedules.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Without exception every team that I was pulling for lost yesterday. The difference between Bama, Clemson, Ohio St. and Oklahoma and the rest of college football is astounding. There are probably five or more teams in the SEC that are three TD winners over the best team in the PAC.

Interesting to see how the new law in California plays out allowing college athletes to benefit from the use of their name or likeness. I'm generally opposed to paying college players per se since they get a free ride anyway and it is the only thing that separates them from professionals but I'm not sure how anyone can be precluded from being compensated for use of their name or likeness. Universities are greedy and corrupt to begin with. Why they but not the player can benefit from using the players name or likeliness is mystifying. I'm sure the NCAA will sue but I think even student athletes have a right to market their image in the same way that any other celebrity does.

I used to agree with the notion that student athletes should not be paid. However, with the evolution and movement of teams and tv contracts, this became big business and I agree they own their own image. I also think the NCAA outlived its usefulness and became a sham organization after the frivolous lawsuits against Tarkanian, Sherrill just to name 2 coaches who have sued them. FYI - both coaches won their lawsuits but not after the NCAA litigated them to death literally. Final ruling was clear, the coaches were right, NCAA wrong. I actually really despise that organization. Let's not forget the idiocy when they started determining mascots.....................another BS and PC move. Probably first time ever I will agree with the State of California!!! I do in this case. Furthermore, I would even go so far as saying the "scholarship" should be turned into a stipend. IE - the kids (and the majority of them will) who are truly using it for a college education and who are "good" athletes will use their stipend to earn their degree. The "one and done" "two and done" turning pro kids - who cares, pay them for the time they are there. They are not and never are going to be there for the degree, they are there for the exposure and in turn make the university a lot of money. I believe in choice and the NCAA is nothing but an aging roadblock that went from guidance to authority to big business themselves. Time for them to go.

Good day for the locals as UMd Terps smashed Rutgers and the USNA escaped with a win against Air Force. Navy had to rally to win as they went into the 4th with a 21-9 lead, blew it, and had to score a Td with less than a minute to play to get the win. Anyway, a win is a win is a win... -- Al

Unless you are Clemson last week. They won but somehow fell from #1 to #2. ^&confuse

That's what happens when a #1 wins by only 1 point against a middling opponent. So, as you point out, a win isn't a win, is it?^&grin Gotta love the college polls. -- Al

It was a good football Saturday for me.

It is rare for both Texas and Stanford to win while Cal loses so I truly didn't expect to get my college football hat trick this weekend, as Stanford was playing Washington but I'll take it! ^&grin
