JUst catching up. The background and base go together perfectly. Great dio.

Thank you very much Chris. All Posters.com has literary thousands of posters in all sizes to choose from. They are very easy to mount and trim to size. I've used this resource four times now in the recent past and have been very pleased with the results.

I've been thinking of moving all my displays back into my large converted cabinets where I had a lot more room, and less dust as I can leave the doors on and closed if required, it's becoming a real chore cleaning the dust off them. Of course I could buy some larger enclosed glass cabinets but trying to avoid too much cost. I note that Ikea make full size frameless glass doors for their Billy range, also thinking about getting Four of those, but they are not very deep being bookcases, maybe I could double the shelf depth by removing the back and putting another Billy behind, then the shelves would be about 2'/60cm deep. Yeah, I'm a compulsive 'planner', always have 'crazy' ideas running thru my head  🤪

Oz, my shelves are wall mounted and 15"/38cm deep (they are actually a closet organizer shelving system).

Mike,
Wonderfully brought to life by you. I wish I had room for the chuck wagon. It’s a real centerpiece for your diorama.

Similar depth to my current cabinets, a good compromise as 2'/60cm can be too deep, depends on shelf height spacing. How are you coping with the dust build up Mike?

Thank you very much Steve. I don't think I would have collected the figures if the chuck wagon had not been available.

I really haven't experienced a great deal of dust build up on the shelves. I installed them a number of years ago and I really haven't had an issue with dust.

I suspect dust is more noticeable on my new displays as my shelves are clear glass, another reason for me to go back to my cupboard displays with fake grass etc. I may leave the cabinet doors on this time, only open up when I want to view them.

Mike, can you please post pics of how you wall mount the shelves, I'm after some more display options as your displays look so real.

The glass shelves might be it. My wife has two curio cabinets in our living room with glass shelves (and even doors to enclosed them). The amount of dust on the shelves is quite noticeable and we have not had the cabinets as long as the shelves I use. My display room is even in our basement where you would expect the dust to be more of a problem . . . Go figure

Sure thing. I'll post some photos later today. Stay tuned . . .

Thanks Mike, I appreciate the info about dust in your wife's glass cabinets, confirms my suspicions and I certainly intend to go back to a more diorama focused display. At this stage I'm not sure if I will use my closet/wardrobe conversion or buy new display cabinets. Looking forward to seeing photos of your wall mounted shelves for some ideas.

Oz . . . As requested, photos of my wall mounted shelves. They were intended to be used as a closet organizer system called Easy Track. Step #1 you anchor a steel flange or "cleat" on the wall at the height you want. When assembled, the entire shelf unit hangs from this cleat. The cleat is visible on the top shelf. White plastic sleeves were provided to camo the steel. Step #2 you hang the side walls on the cleat. Step #3 you attach the tops and bottoms to the side walls with wood screws and use white plugs to camo the screw heads. Step #4 place shelves at desired heights. Total length for one unit is 8 feet (2.44 meters) divided into two 3 foot sections and one 2 foot section in between them. I have two 8-foot sections connected together by a corner unit section. Hope this and the photos help.

Thanks for the photos Mike, you certainly have plenty of space, wish I had a basement or even an attic, but you can't have everything as they say. Those wall mounted shelves provide some custom sizing for your displays. I posted an updated photo of my hobby room in my thread titled 'Display Ideas to make the most of your space'. I considered mounting some shelves on the brick wall above the sofa bed but not keen on that idea as it's a single brick width and dividing wall between me and the villa/unit nextdoor being 'mirror' duplex dwellings. My latest plan is to buy some new timber cabinets to replace the glass cabinets against the shuttered window, should look cool with some diorama grass mats etc.
