2015 College Football (3 Viewers)

Happy day in Wildcat land!

Not surprisingly, the focus is on how bad the Stanford offense played...not how good the Cats defense held them in check.

I think it was a bit of both, along with the fact that Northwestern was clearly more prepared than Stanford.

I finally had a chance to watch the game (I was on the road yesterday and only could follow via GameTrack). Who were these Cats? Last year the offensive line was terrible. Either the Stanford D-line is much worse than advertised or NU might be onto something. It's always good to ease a freshman quarterback into things. I hope as the season moves on they can open up the offense.

That said, it must hurt to be a Cardinal right now. They reminded me of the unfocused, uncaring NU teams of the past 2 years. Frankly, I think they expected to waltz in and win with ease. I think the 11 am CST start helped too :)

I'm now a Stanford fan for the rest of the year. May you go undefeated the rest of the way (and make this win look impressive for us!).

College students along Huntington Avenue in Boston were dancing in the streets over this victory, specifically students from NorthEASTERN..................then they were told it was NorthWESTERN that won the game and no, NorthWESTERN is not NorthEASTERN WEST, but the party continued anyway because they're college students and they never need a correct reason to get hammered.........................

Ahhhh ... my old alma Marta .... Northeastern University ... home of the Huskies!

I know that NU terminated their football program many years ago.

You want to know how BAD their teams were ... well ..... I MADE THE NU FOOTBALL TEAM ...yep all 165 lbs of me ... split end.
I played two games, got hit hard after a 23 yard gain (in he second game) and actually held on to the ball. I was curled up like a fiddle head on the field for 5 min before they rolled me off the field like a roll of turf. Never played again. {sm4}

Still hurts a bit when I laugh.

Thank God you survived that hit or else I'd have to find someone else to entertain me at Valley Forge, Chicago and Hackensack; in case you haven't figured it out by now, your help is not the reason I bring you to those shows, it's the entertainment................:wink2:

I thought Stanford was the worst coached team in college football until I watched Texas. How the mighty have fallen. There must be high school teams in Texas that could beat the Lowhorns this year. Penn St. is not far behind getting destroyed by Temple. The first time since the 40s that they lost to the Owls.

Going back to last year Texas has scored 20 points in its last 3 games. That is simply pathetic, especially when you consider that they went to great lengths to improve their offense in the off season.

This made me laugh; Penn St, "LINEBACKER U", playing in front of gajillion fans, losing to Temple.

As far as Texas; no love for them being a long time Sooners fan, not to mention that miracle win in the 2006 Rose Bowl vs USC..............how's Vince Youngs career by the way, he was touted as the next great NFL QB superstar after that game..............yeah, pretty much what I thought, the old blind squirrel finding an acorn and all that.............

The 2006 Rose Bowl should be renamed the Bust Bowl. Just about every "can't miss" prospect missed. Vince Young, Matt Lienhart, Reggie Bush, Dwayne Jarrett and Steve Smith. All of them are now out of football except for Bush.

The only guy whoever did anything from that game was an unheralded Jamaal Charles and he was taken in the third round by the Chiefs.

Ohio St. is a machine right now. They look unbeatable. That poor QB for VA Tech got destroyed. Broken collarbone and he was glad to escape that game with his life. Warden Myers is the best coach in college football by a long shot. He has put together a monster team. Beating Alabama and Oregon last year with a third string QB may be the greatest feat in college football. On the other side "Beamer ball" has gone the way of Battle of the Network Stars. It's time has long passed. Even the special teams that gave Beamer his reputation aren't so special anymore.

VA Tech football has been in a downward spiral for several seasons. Past time for Frank Beamer, 68, to retire. Another coach hanging on against the tide. Chris

Week two is upon us. This is a major cupcake weekend. Bama plays Middle Tennessee. Ohio St. plays Hawaii. Hardly any games worth picking but here they are:

Michigan St. 30 Oregon 24 - the game of the week. A pick 'em. I've learned my lesson with the Quacks. When they play a physical team it means trouble. With a new QB and a defense that gave up 41 to a cupcake last weekend Team Nike goes down on the road.

Oklahoma 41 Tennessee 34 - both programs are down. Playing in Rocky Top hasn't helped the Vols much in the last few years. They put up a good fight but come up short. My favorite quote is from the former Vols coach who once compared his team's chances to those of the Germans on D-day.

LSU 24 Miss. St. 20 - should be a good game but Les "Satan" Miles has luck on his side.

Boise St. 37 BYU 13 - all the girls will be blond and pretty but that will be the only good thing going for the Y. Without their QB they get crushed. One of those games you come across at 1 AM and have to decide whether you want to watch it or a Hogan's Heroes repeat. At least it's not on that awful blue field that gives me a headache.

Hoo-boy! UMd raised a cloud of stink over College Park today. Lost to Bowling Green 48-27. How does a program that wants to be an elite in the Big 10 lose by 21 to Bowling Green? Off with their heads!:rolleyes2: -- Al

Lots of parity in college football once you get beyond a couple teams like Bama and Ohio St. Just about anyone can win on a given week. Even the cupcakes showed some fight this week with Jacksonville St. having Auburn on the ropes. They went turtle though and gave it away in OT. Toledo did get Arkansas. Tough week for the SEC with TN choking down big time against Oklahoma. ND lost their starting QB for the season. He was looking pretty good. Tough break for their chances.

A few good ones this week:

Georgia Tech 38 Notre Dame 17 - the Irish may have hit the wall losing their starting QB. Too many injuries. Even at home with the refs throwing those PI flags in the fourth quarter won't be enough to save the wee men.

Alabama 41 Ole Miss 30 - the days of the low scoring defensive struggles are over in the SEC. This should be a shootout. Lame "victory cancer" Kiffin will call a ton of his bubble screens and because Saban has recruited NFL talent at every position a few of them will go for more than one yard.

USC 37 Stanford 10 - the mighty Trojans are stacked with offensive skill players. Stanford is stuck in 1922. A crushing win.

LSU 27 Auburn 24 - not impressed with Auburn having to come from behind against Jacksonville St. and win in OT. Should be an ugly game but Les Miles seems to catch the breaks.

You forgot to mention the epic battle of the nerds...Northwestern (might I mention, #23 Northwestern!) at Duke. I bet 10 people all around the country are aching to tune in.

Before the season we'd circled this one as a crucial, expecting to have been blown out by Stanford. Now the goal is to avoid overconfidence (as if the 'Cats should EVER have that). I'm guessing that defense rules the day, the NU running game gets going, and the 'Cats pull it out 17-9.

Go 'Cats!

The heck with the game; the average IQ for those kids from those two schools is off the charts, other than the annual Harvard/Yale game will we see so many brilliant kids on the field, good for both of those schools.

I'm behind Northwestern all the way, I hope at this point they go 11-0, I'll be pulling for them for Pete's sake (and not for Petes sake, but Pete's, aka, my right hand man that one year at Chicago........................hope you know I'll never stop thanking you for that..............)...........

Northwestern ground the Dukies down and emerged with a 19-10 win. Not pretty on the offensive side, but they showed some sparks in the 2nd half. Now to get our freshman quarterback some confidence!

3-0! Not many expected this!

My day is made as both the UMd Terps and the Middies of Navy won. The schedule for UMd gets brutal from here on out. -- Al

Navy game was a FUN one to watch ...
Navy has scored 93 points in TWO games while only allowing 31. A 3 to 1 ratio is pretty impressive.

The first two Navy opponents haven't been truly top contenders so not a lot of expectations yet but a good showing. CONN game will be a teller of the quality ... THEN the IRISH. Air Force should have won today if they didn't keep shooting themselves in the foot so Air Force <> Navy will predict the outcome of the 2015 Commanders Cup!

GO Navy!!!!
