2017 Baseball Season: Let's Play Two! (1 Viewer)

Costly losses the last 2 nights by the O's. They are still only 2.5 games back in the WC but the number of teams they have to get past has increased to 5. There are 48 games left and the O's have to go 30-18 to reach the 86 win mark, probably the minimum needed to make the WC. It's a tough road and it means they have to get hot and stay hot. Winning 2 out of every 3 ain't gonna be easy for a team that is currently under .500. They are making it hard on themselves. -- Al

Except for the Yankees, the WC contenders are slightly above and below 500. This probably won't be resolved until late September. Angels are going to Baltimore next weekend and I may make the drive down.

I think it's stupid but it's not directed at dinosaurs like us Al. They're trying to copy basketball instead of finding their own way.

If you wear your Angels gear, all I can say is it's been great knowing you.

Been to a number of stadiums over the years and I literally feared for my life twice; at the LA coliseum back in 1986 during a playoff game vs the Raiders and in 2007, a Monday night game in Baltimore.

LA was bad, Baltimore was ten times worse, those Ravens fans were something else.............I wouldn't mind, but they stunk on ice that year, so why all the anger...................unbelievable, over a stupid football game to boot..........................BUT, the Patriots won both games, so sit on it and spin.

That's a good point. Maybe I will go in mufti ^&grin

I think you'll be ok, the ballpark is in a nice spot down near the waterfront, plus there will probably be 47 LET'S GO O'S!! fans at the game anyway..............

There's been a lot of discussion about the Bruce trade. The Yankees apparently offered the Mets a better deal but wouldn't pick up all his salary. Moreover, you can't discount that it was the Yankees and the teams don't trade often. At any rate, the Indians agreed to pick up all his salary. A lot of fans think it was a salary dump. Tonight on the game Keith Hernandez said he agreed with the fans. I hope he doesn't get into trouble with management.

That's the great thing about the Mets announcers. They're not afraid to criticize the team.

His avg is below 300 and he's only hit 5 HRs since the break. Pitchers talk and they've figured out ways to get him out. He now has to figure out how to make adjustments.

It also seems like there has been a general drop in home runs after the all-star break this year unless your name is Giancarlo Stanton.

The Yankees' offense has gone south and people are pointing the fingers at Sanchez and Judge (who has hit 172 since the break).

He never should have been allowed to enter the All Star game home run hitting contest, that stupid thing has screwed up a number of players.................another dumb *** idea by MLB, along with those idiotic nickname shirts they are going to force the players to wear at gunpoint, yet another jersey cash grab..............................

Huge series this weekend between the Red Sox and Yankees. I am looking forward to watching the finale on Sunday Night Baseball.

I suppose the next thing MLB will force on the players is requiring the players to wear their pants below their butts and wear their caps reversed. :rolleyes2: -- Al

Bullpens were the tale tonight in the O's loss to Oakland as the O's bullpen failed to hold the late lead and the O's bullpen did their job with erstwhile Nat reliever Blake Treinen getting the save. Treinen had a terrible year with the Nats, failing as a closer early in the season and just being terrible overall, pitching to a 5.73 ERA before he was traded to Oakland in mid-July and has been 'lights out' in 15 games with them, reclaiming a closer role and pitching to a 1.26 ERA with his new team. Anyway, this late loss hurts, putting the O's 2 under .500 and 2 back in the jumbled WC race. -- Al

Angels won tonight and are now tied with the Mariners for the third position. I'm sure there will be a lot of twists and turns still to come.

The bullpen was the tale for the Red Sox last night as well; up 3-0 entering the 8th, the MFY's had 2 measly hits, then coconut head gets hit off the toe, originally ruled a ball, but hey, thank God for effing video review and they overturned it, then Sanchez hit a 314 foot pop up down the right field line for a cheap *** home run, then a walk, wild pitch, base hit, a blooper base hit, another walk and another blooper and presto, the MFYs' score 5 runs and not one ball they hit would have broken a pane of glass.

Then to add insult to injury, Chapman walks the bases loaded in the 9th, a sac fly makes it 5-4, but Nunez for some boneheaded reason tries to go to third and gets thrown out.................................he looked safe to me from every angle, but thank God they have video review and they called him out so that's twice video review worked for the MFY's.

So pre 2004......................................they'd better win the next two games because if they get swept, I'm going to lose it.

Infuriating.

Re-read this just now and 'oops'. The A's bullpen did their job, not the O's, with new A's pitcher Treinen getting the save. I shouldn't type past midnight.:redface2: -- Al

Nats won last night in a game delayed from starting by rain for 3 hours. Then the game was started in a steady rain anyway and disaster struck. Harper was trying to beat out a ground ball in the 1st, his cleat hit the wet base, skidded on it like it was ice, shot off the base and stuck in the dirt, causing Harper's momentum to hyper-extend his knee. He left the game unable to walk and will have an MRI to determine the extent of the damage. Hardly worth pointing out that the game shouldn't have been started in those conditions. Now, that is a real mood killer. The crowd was pretty quiet the rest of the night. -- Al

Angels continue to surge. They posted their 35th come from behind win last night, most in the majors. They are now in the second WC position, although 1 GB in the loss column behind the Twins, who are also surging.

Hard to see how the AL WC race could get any better. There are 7 teams locked in a battle for the 2nd WC spot, all within 2.5 games of each other and another 2 teams are 4 and 6 games out, still doable. With anywhere from 44 to 47 games left, things are going to be pretty intense and the AL East and Central titles aren't locked up yet. Going to be a lot of fun over the next month and a half. -- Al
