2017 Baseball Season: Let's Play Two! (1 Viewer)

With the Astros coming down to earth somewhat, the Wild Card teams will have a chance against them and since there is no great team in the AL this year, if the WC can get by Houston, time to dare to dream?

Red Sox pulled a reverse lock yesterday as they hammered the MFY's best pitcher and won 10-5, Scott made it interesting serving up two meatballs for home runs in the bottom of the ninth.

Aaron T Judge is 7-42 vs the Sox this year with 1 home run and 2 RBI's (well in fairness he hit a second one but JBJ robbed him with a tremendous catch) along with 17 K's.

Since the ASB, he's hitting a robust .161 with 43 K's in 93 at bats

Yikes.

Yet there the MFY's sit, leading the wild card race and 4.5 games behind the Red Sox; imagine where they'd be without him feasting on the rest of MLB to the tune of 34 home runs and 76 RBI's.

Poor Aaron T Judge.

Hard to see how the AL WC race could get any better. There are 7 teams locked in a battle for the 2nd WC spot, all within 2.5 games of each other and another 2 teams are 4 and 6 games out, still doable. With anywhere from 44 to 47 games left, things are going to be pretty intense and the AL East and Central titles aren't locked up yet. Going to be a lot of fun over the next month and a half. -- Al
Some decent news regarding Harper, no ligament or tendon damage but does have a deep bone bruise. Headed to the DL but is expected back by the end of the season. You can bet that he won't be rushed back the way things sit now. -- Al

O's lost to the A's today, giving them a 2-2 split in the series. Not good enough. O's now 16-13 since the break, a definite improvement, but it is not going to be good enough if they keep losing to teams they should and need to beat. There are 44 games left for the O's, and at their current 58-60 record, they need to go 26-18 to get to 84 wins, which MIGHT be good for the WC. Next 2 series, 3 games in Seattle and 3 games against the Angels in LA, will likely tell the tale. A split will do them no good. They need to win 4 of the 6 to keep realistic hope alive. Seattle and the Angels are 2 of the teams the O's have to pass for the WC, so it is obvious these are going to be huge games for the O's chances. -- Al

File under 'Baseball can sure be strange': In the current Nats/Giants game there occurred a play I have never seen. SF's Joe Panic was streaking home to score on an single up the middle. Nats CF Michael Taylor fielded the ball and pegged an on target throw to Nats catcher Matt Wieters, in position to tag Panic. The throw skipped off the turf and hit Panic in the side of the head as he slid towards home, the richochet went right into Wieters mitt, who was in the middle of applying the tag. Panic was out. Really strange play. -- Al

The three against the Angels are in your place. The Angels play the Nats on Tuesday and Wednesday and those games won't be easy.

I'm not sure I'd want to be facing Seattle right now as they were just swept by the Angels at home.

Oops. Misread the schedule. Still big games, for both teams. See you all on Tuesday.:smile2: -- Al

Why are teams even pitching to Stanton right now? He has 10 HRs in his last 11 games, 16 in the second half of the season and 22 since July 5th.

Same question I kept asking myself after he lit up the Nats staff in their last series. A one base walk is ALWAYS better than 4 bags at once. He hit 3 against us last series.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Bumgarner is pitching against him tonight, no matter who he is facing he simply doesn't back down. The problem is that you can't over power Stanton. This should be worth watching.

Looks like a bad night for Angels and Mets :(
Angels ran into a really hot Gio Gonzalez. He has given up only 1 run and 10 hits over his last 21 innings (3 wins). Plus, Kendrick has been killing the ball since coming over to the Nats at the end of July. -- Al

Good win for the Angels today. After a day off, they will move north to pluck some feathers ^&grin

Painful loss for the O's today in the series finale at Seattle. uBADo was not at his best, giving up 6 runs in 4.1 innings. O's rally fell short in the 9th as they lost 7-6 and have come real close to flushing their season. The road trip ended with a 4-6 record when it was essential the O's go 6-4 or better. With a 59-62 record and only 41 games left, the O's path to the WC is steeper than ever. Still haven't given up but an O's sweep of the Angels is essential to keep the season alive. Even winning 2 of 3 from the Angels would leave the O's 2 under .500 with only 38 games left and the almost impossible task of going 24-14 to reach 84 wins. The numbers are bad but not impossible, but as I said, a sweep of the Angels is almost a must at this point as there are now 6 teams between the O's and the last WC spot. -- Al

I'm not throwing in any towel, as wacky as this season has gone one team can go from the dog house to the WC pent house in one week!!! just got to get back to Balmer and win a few series.

Hope springs eternal but it ain't happening. I can see the Os winning 2 because they have a good home record and Angels are slightly under 500 on the road. On the other hand the teams are going in different directions.

Regardless of who wins, the WC race will not be decided until late September; the various teams are just to close to each other in the standings and in quality.

An O's sweep is really just a hope and prayer, but the O's do have their 3 best SP lined up to go. Still, 2 out of 3 would be good, though not optimum. Anyway, good luck to your boys as it should be a good series being so important to both teams. -- Al

Aside from the Angels, not much to root for these days.

The guys on WFAN were saying there's a rumor Granderson might be headed to the Nationals. If so, you're getting a good player and a quality person. If you subtract his horrendous April, he's had a decent year.

Brad, haven't heard that trade rumor, but it fits as the Nats just had to put OF Goodwin on the DL, making something like 4 OFers on the DL. Actually had to call De Aza up from the minors so maybe the Grandy rumor has substance. We've gone through 8 or 9 OFers so far. -- Al
