2017 Baseball Season: Let's Play Two! (1 Viewer)

The Red Sox lost to Sherman Klump and the MFY's tonight thanks to a 3 run bomb hit by some effing tomato can I've never heard of.

So Judge, Hicks, Sanchez do nothing but some cyborg the MFY's built in a lab hits a 3 run bomb off of Sale, then does a bat flip and pimps around the bases.

Wonderful.

The corpse of Sherman Klump is 3-0 with a .90 ERA this year vs the Red Sox.

Absolutely unbelievable.

These NERDs are just going to hang around all year, they are going nowhere, this division will come down to the wire, guaranteed.

Watching a Sox/MFY game has to be THE definition of an unenjoyable sporting event; even when the Red Sox win there is no joy in watching the game, when they lose and I have to watch Lamar Headley, Quasimodo, Didi/dodo/dada Gregorious, Coconut head in left, dreamboat in center, or some other annoying pain in the *** ruin my night.

Baseball excitement; CATCH IT!!

CC Sabathia; stop the world, I want to get off.

Must win game for the O's today. They just can't afford another loss to the Angels and still harbor WC dreams. They are 3 back of the Angels and Twins in the race for the last WC spot, so a loss today would put them 4 back and leaving at least 5 teams that would have to be passed. There are only 39 games left for the O's, including today's big game and while 4 games is not insurmountable, it does mean they would have to go 24-14 just to reach 84 wins and I'm not at all optimistic it can be done with this team continuing to play .500 ball since the break. The one caveat is that Machado has gotten hot at the right time and is starting to carry the team like he was always expected to. He might be able to drag the O's to the promised land but I think the faulty SP is going to prove fatal, just as it has most of the season. In today's huge match-up, the O's are reduced to sending Tillman (1-7, 7.83 ERA) and recently taken out of the rotation, to the mound in a 'must win' game. What a joke and a pity. There is a very slight chance Tillman will actually pitch a good game and that the O's can win, but I'm really too pessimistic to allow myself to believe. As I've cried about all season, I just can't believe this team didn't do anything major to try and improve such an awful SP rotation. This season will be viewed as a opportunity missed because of that, at least by me. Anyway, GO O's! I just can't quite give up, yet. -- Al

I don't think there are any must games in August, especially when there are many teams within 4 games of the WC leaders. Obviously you want to win.

Based on the WL records of the pitchers, the matchup favors the Angels.

Great win for the Angels! A 7-2 road trip. Nonetheless, it's only one game and their bullpen drives you crazy.

It was a good game and Tillman wasn't as awful as I feared he would be but it is asking a lot of a team to have to come back from multi-run deficits game after game. -- Al

Red Sox win 5-1, taking two of three for the second strait weekend from the MFY's.

Quasimodo continues his assault on history, he's a true Yankee; he's whiffed in 37 strait games, that's an all time record, can't see this one ever being topped and he's not done yet.

Up five full games now with 39 games to go.

It's on to Cleveland for four games, then back home for a weekend series with the LET'S GO O'S!!.............................

I know it was a tough one for you Al and Chris. I think the Orioles could have won it and I though they were going to do so. Frankly, other than the Yankees, I think all the WC contenders in quality, meaning I don't think they're all that good but somebody has to win it so why not one of the teams we root for.

My son got me interested in the Angels about five years ago and now I'm a bigger fan than he is. Figure that. They are now back to LA so sleepless nights coming up {eek3}

O's in deep doo-doo now. In their last 3 series against WC rivals Seattle and LA, they have gone 3-6, losing all 3 series. They now have 6 teams to jump for the WC, and with their pitching, I don't think they can. If the O's rally and surprise the world by making the WC, I will eat my words, apologize profusely to the other O's fans on this forum, and celebrate my being so wrong. Don't believe I have much to worry about along those lines. The O's have 3 games against Oakland next, then their last 35 games are all against contenders. Good luck, boys. -- Al

While we were focusing on the AL WC, the NL one has become competitive. The Rockies and Dbacks have slumped and now there are three teams within 5 games of them.

Brad, you are quite right. Hadn't checked the NL races at all and sure didn't realize that the Brewers are actually only 2.5 games out and the Cards only 4. Will have to pay more attention as there now is a race to watch. -- Al

More NL news:

The Giants were officially eliminated from National League West contention yesterday, the earliest that has happened to a team since 1998.

It has been a tough year.

Don't worry, we're right behind you.

Matz needs surgery. He's always injured; he will be a person who never fulfills his potential.

Watching the Mets is getting very difficult. Their lineup tonight is not much better than a Triple A lineup (save for Céspedes).

Brad:

I am right there with you.

I just watched the Giants lose to the Brewers, they are now an even 40 games behind the Dodgers.

My only hope now is that they don't lose 100 games.

Judge (George, you can do so much better with a nickname for him then Quasimodo- how about the name of the Judge from My Cousin Vinny played by the actor who played Herman Munster!) went 1for 1with 3 walks last night and finally broke his consecutive games with a strikeout streak. Despite his historical slump he still has hit 37 homers, and has one of the top on base percentages in baseball. Gary Sanchez hit 2 bombs last night (the first, measured at 493 feet is the second longest in MLB this season) and 7 in his last 10 games. Despite missing a full month on the DL he has 25 homers this season, the most by any catcher in baseball. As a Yankee fan, the young home grown stars, including Severino and Betances, are making the Yankees being in the divisional race and leading the wildcard race a pleasant but unexpected bonus this season. I just want to see Judge get back on track and finish the season on a positive note, Sanchez keep improving and the young pitchers remaining dominant. Then I'll be excited for next year and many seasons to come!

Machado's walk-off Hr in the 12th saved the O's season for at least one more day. O's held a 6-1 lead after 6 but the bullpen went to pieces, including Britton's first blown save in almost 2 years. So, hail Machado! -- Al

Unfortunately something has to give in the AL Wildcard race. On a positive note just about everyone who is a regular poster on this thread has a team that is still alive, Al (Nats and O's), George (Red Sox), Louis (Yankees), Sammy (O's), Brad (Angels) and Carlos (Dodgers).

If someone had told me at the start of the season that myself and the Giants would not be on that list I would not have believed it. Oh well, plenty of teams to still cheer for and most of you rode with me over the years as your teams fell and the Giants continued on. It is my time to repay that support.
