2017 Baseball Season: Let's Play Two! (1 Viewer)

Might be some interesting pitches in the O's, Sox game tonight, as it seems Machado took a hard slide into 2nd base last night injuring the Sox player (very unintentional from the video) but Sox coach didn't like it one bit so wouldn't be surprised to see Machado hit\brushback pitched to in today's game.

Sammy:

I saw the play on MLB network. They pretty much dissected it from every angle and at every speed. His leg was clearly lifted up by the bag as he slid into it which caused the "hard slide". You could also tell by Machado's reaction that is was unintentional.

Watched the game with Boston announcers. What a bunch of whining. :rolleyes2: I probably would also if it had gone against the Os. Chris

You know the drill; either that slide was ok or late, depending on which team you ask, that's the nature of sports.

Your manager hates the Red Sox with a passion, he never misses an opportunity to take shot at the organization like last week when he made a cheap shot remark about how our team is whining about so many players being out with the flu.

There was no whining, all Farrell did was answer a reporters question.

If Muchacho gets drilled tonight, be ready for Buck to launch into a tirade over it.......................

George:

I couldn't have said it better myself. If it is your team taking the slide it is dirty, if you are the team sliding it is just good baseball.

And like I have said for years, from a baseball and rivalry perspective, nothing tops the AL East. I generally stay out of cheering for one team or another as Al, Sammy, George and Louis all have a rooting interest with their teams. I consider all of them friends even if it is all via this thread and forum.

-Jason.

They will be fortunate to win one. Aside from the injuries, this is the same team as last year: boom or bust. You can't win consistently that way.
Brad, even with all the injuries the Mets have had, the Nats are lucky to have won both of these close games. Our bullpen is an Achilles Heel, though they have been decent in this series, and our situational hitting could be better. We left a lot of runs on the bases in game 2. One bad inning by deGrom and one by Familia have been the difference, not much else. It has been the usual tough series between the two teams. -- Al

From my perspective Al, the bullpen looks good and the lineup solid; they fortified themselves nicely with Eaton and Wieters. They can score runs the conventional way and with the HR. Admittedly, they will probably look for a closer at the trading deadline to be ready for the stretch run. Barring unforeseen circumstances, the division should be theirs to lose.

We shall see. It is a long season, as someone once said. I do like our chances if the starting pitching stays healthy, and Harper doesn't cool off too much. But you can't count the Mets out with their starting rotation. A LONG way to go. -- Al

O's take another from Boston with 3 HR'S, including Mancini 's 5th. :smile2: Chris

Bumgarner's injury seems to have effected the Giants in a very negative way. They are playing even worse than before and since the injury the whole team seems disinterested. Yesterday, their new ace Cueto lost for the first time this year and today they lost 8-0 to the Rockies.

One thing for sure, Samardzija has looked awful. Giants better find a way to pull it together or they could be buried by May. Someone needs to step up and fill the void for Bums. Cueto is the obvious choice but Samardzija needs to earn his money. -- Al

Al:

Agreed on Samardzija. He is making $18 mil per year, which is the 4th highest salary on the Giants. 0-3 with a 6.16 ERA is not worth that kind of cash.

And you are also right about getting it together soon. If they don't they soon could be looking at double digit games out of first.

Jason, your stats on Samardzija are prior to today's disaster. He is now 0-4, with a 7.40 ERA. He needs to man up and get it in gear as SF needs him to help fill the gap. I think SF can stay in it if things turn around a bit but they have to turn relatively soon to avoid the double-digit deficit. Hope they can do it. -- Al

Just got home to watch the bush league play of Red Sox pitcher Barnes going head hunting on M. Machado, that's total bullshitt from any perspective you want to call it, be it a O's, Red Sox fan, you just do not throw at an opposing player's head, I was glad to see Pedroia try to reach out to Machado after the play that he had nothing to do with it and after the game calling it for what it was, no doubt like most folks I was expecting a shot to the ribs, forearm for Machado even if the slide was an accident which it clearly was, that's just the way teams protect their guys, but the throw to the head is out of bounds, just what if it had hit him in the face, chin area?? anyway, rant over I hope the bum gets a good suspension from his idiotic decision.

Time to shake that magic 8 ball to ask if Ubaldo will have a good pitching outing or trainwreck?? Hopefully he has another outing like his last.

I just saw the Nats and Rockies highlights from last night. Pretty cool interaction between Werth and a young fan. Apparently last year she was attending the game where Werth got beamed in the head and her reaction was caught on camera. She was at the game last night and after catching a fly-out Werth recognized her and tossed the ball to the foul ball attendant who he then instructed to give the ball to her.

I know Werth gets maligned because of his reserved demeanor but that was a class move.

I've always thought he was the key player on the team. Werth is basically the team leader and he is Harper's mentor. He will leave a hole when he is done. Never had the best stats but his importance lays in his clutch performances and his play by example. Werth has also provided what many Nats fan feel is the ultimate moment in Nats history, his walk-off Hr in Game 4 of the 2012 playoffs against St. Louis, resulting in a 2-1 win. It's certainly my favorite moment. :smile2: -- Al

He was one of their first big signings when they were not a good team. I remember wondering why he was leaving the Phillies. In retrospect, it was an important signing.

Going back to my earlier posts, the Nats are the class of the division, that much is obvious. Maybe this will be their year but I think they will need a closer. Teams have a small window of opportunity in today's game and before you know it, the Braves may be on top again; they may only be a year away.

Werth was the signing that put the Nats on the map. He is very popular in DC. Amen to that closer, Brad. Nats bullpen did them in again, in Colorado last night. The bullpen continues to struggle, although it was the middle men who did them in this time, not the closer. That bullpen is a disaster right now. -- Al
