2017 Baseball Season: Let's Play Two! (1 Viewer)

He was one of their first big signings when they were not a good team. I remember wondering why he was leaving the Phillies. In retrospect, it was an important signing.

Going back to my earlier posts, the Nats are the class of the division, that much is obvious. Maybe this will be their year but I think they will need a closer. Teams have a small window of opportunity in today's game and before you know it, the Braves may be on top again; they may only be a year away.

One need only look at last year's Giants team to see the importance of a closer.

Unfortunately for you, yes. They could have been WS Champions had they had a quality one.

They let Miley pitch thru the 4th with 4 walks and 2 runs. {sm2} Down in the 6th. {sm2} Chris

Miley has finished 7, walking 6, fanning 8, and still trails 2-0. He did a great job in lousy weather conditions. The O's offense has been totally smothered by a hodge-podge of 4 different pitchers. Unreal. And Machado is now below the Mendoza line.:rolleyes2: -- Al

O's lose 2-0 as 5 different Rays pitchers hold them to 2 hits. Another quality start by the O's pitcher. The O's offense is actually the weak point right now as fully a third of the line-up isn't hitting squat. Trumbo at .203, Hardy at .200, and Machado at .188 are making scoring a challenge. When they can get rolling consistently, this O's team is going to be a real serious contender, regardless of pre-season predictions. -- Al

Al:

I know the feeling. As mentioned before a loss is a loss but somehow it hurts more when you lose despite great pitching.

Nats escaped with a win in the softball game played in Colorado tonight, 15-12. Nats had a 15-5 lead but the fantastic Nats bullpen had to put their mark on the game, letting the Rockies back in it by giving up 7 runs over the last 3 innings. Nats should maybe just blow up the pen and start over. They really suck. On the up side, Nats SS Trea Turner hit for the cycle with 7 RBI's. What was San Diego thinking giving him up? By the end of tonight's game, the temp was down to 36. Boy, I hate baseball in Colorado. -- Al

Kershaw has allowed 2 runs or fewer in 33 of his 36 starts against the Giants. I know he pitches for the Dodgers but even I have to tip my cap to those kinds of numbers.

Tampa walks home the winning run for the O's in the 11th. Sweet. :smile2: Chris

Nats had another good night with the bats against the Rockies, winning 11-4. After tonight, the Nats 2-3-4-5 hitters are on fire. Turner hits #2 and is hitting .326 with a OBP of .341; #3 Harper's BA is .432, OBP is .548, with 22 RBI's; #4 Zimmerman's line is .387, .439 OBP, with 21 RBI's; #5 Murphy is at .330 and .359, with 22 RBI's. Their starting pitching has been sharp too with their 4 main starters a combined 10-1. I know they can't stay this hot all year, but this line-up is fun to watch right now. Nats are 8-1 on this road trip and are now 15-6 on the year. One more game in Colorado then it's home again for the Mets. -- Al

Thank goodness the 4 game softball tourney in Colorado ended this afternoon. Nats win the finale 16-5. There were 75 combined runs scored in this 4 game series, 46 by the Nats to go with their 55 hits. It is no wonder pitchers avoid Colorado like the plague. Nats went 9-1 on their road trip through NY, Atl., and Colorado. Finally get to come home. The Nats bullpen was badly treated in this series, as they have been all year, giving up 17 runs in 12.2 innings of work. On top of the bad work, the 2 bullpen pitchers that were sort of effective, Glover and Kelley, both have gone on the DL. Given that no pitching staff does well in Rockies land, I'm hoping the bullpen can shape up a bit back in DC. -- Al

When playing in Colorado Bochy once said that he was apt to leave a starter in even if he gave up a few runs as offensively most teams can make up that deficit in that park and you can save your relievers for the 2-1 etc. type of games.

It's hard to say a series is make or break but this series against the Nats probably is. Moreover, if they should lose all three, it might be the beginning of the end for Terry, notwithstanding all the injuries and there are many; Céspedes injured his hamstring and is probably gone for a long time. They might in the very near future bring up their top prospects to play Ss and 1B.

It could be a very long season.

Some of the commentators are already calling Citifield, Citimorgue.

Bad night for the B/W Parkway teams as both the Nats and O's lost. Nats loaded the bases in the bottom of the 9th, trailing by 2, and couldn't score as Harper bounced into a game ending DP. Well, they had to lose sometime. The O's had a REALLY UGLY loss, completely falling apart after leading 11-4. Game went to extra innings tied 11-11 after NY scored 3 in the 9th to tie, and then 3 in the 10th to win. First time the absence of Britton has cost the team. Oh well, it happens to everyone once in a while. As someone once said, 'Tomorrow is another day.' :wink2: -- Al

Bumgarner is now out until after the All-Star break with July 20th being the return target date.

He really is hopeless. He lasted 4.1 innings, giving up 5 ER's in his first start and liked it so much he did it again in tonight's start; 4.1 innings and 5 ER's. At least he's consistently...BAD. {eek3} -- Al
uBADo strikes again. Lasted a grand total of 3.1 innings, giving up 7 runs. O's behind the 8-ball, trail 7-0 after 4. uBADo's ERA on the year now at 7.83. Jeesh, it's feast or famine with this guy, and usually a lot more famine. The Donner family probably had a picture of him in their wagon.:rolleyes2: -- Al

It was a great day for the New York teams and a good weekend so far!

No one likes to lose games but the Mets definitely needed these games. It was great to see Reyes have some good games and Familia look good. Hopefully, he's thrown off some of the rust.
