2018 Baseball season (2 Viewers)

Hate that it has come to this, but the O's can't afford to continue the Chris Tillman reclamation project. Whatever he had that made him the O's ace from 2012-2016 went bye-bye last year and hasn't come back, even a little bit. He has 3 starts this season, is well on the way to being 0-3, has 11.1 innings pitched and has allowed 22 hits, 10 BB, 15 ER's, with an ERA of 11.91. Too bad but it is time to cut ties and move on. -- Al

Al:

It is always tough to give up on a player, especially one who has given so much to a franchise. However, those current numbers are impossible to ignore.

The Giants went through the same thing with Linceum so I know the feeling.

He was brutal last night, did his fastball get above 90mph, he was throwing BP out there.

I didn't watch the whole game, but I heard something happened during the game that upset Buck; gee, what else is new, he's got a permanent hair across his *** towards the RS, I'm sure whatever it was that upset him, Dempsey will launch a full investigation over it, he's still mad that the RS sent him a bill for the tarp he ruined when he did his Babe Ruth impression during a rain delay a number of years ago when he was a player for the LET'S GO O'S!!..........................

Well, 14 games in and both my teams, the O's and Nats, are in 4th place behind the 2 hottest teams in MLB, the Red Sox and the Mets. The AL East I am not surprised at, the NL East has been a shock. The Nats simply aren't living up to the pre-season hype, whereas the Mets, Braves, and Phillies are all exceeding predictions. Based on their performance, the Mets are looking fantastic, and I see no reason why it won't continue as the pitching is superb. I don't think the Braves and Phillies can continue doing as well, but that might just be wishful thinking. Whether the Nats can up their game and stay close will be the focus of the season for me at this point. Still too early to worry (much:rolleyes2:) but still aggravating to see the Nats stumble along. Nats have some key offensive injuries and the rest of the line-up isn't hitting so some patience is needed from me (not my strong suit), so I will wait another month before hitting the panic button. The O's, on the other hand, have a lot of tough teams to deal with and are risking being an 'also ran' from this very early point. Against form, the O's have gotten some decent SP, but aren't hitting real well and have thus wasted several QS and there simply isn't room for lost victories in the AL East. Still, I think the O's can contend, but they need to fire on all cylinders to stay in it. -- Al

This start exceeds all expectations. The Mets did start pretty hot in 2015 with 11 in a row but they cooled off quite a bit after that. Unfortunately, they have lost their catching corps: d'Arnaud is out for the year with TJ surgery (he seems to be always hurt) and Plawecki broke his hand. Lobaton has been called up and a Double A catcher (who is supposed to be the catcher of the future) has also been called up. They are still not getting any length from their starting pitchers; that has to change. Although the Nats are 7 out, this is going to be a four team race.

I will enjoy this as long as it lasts.

Lobaton was a popular player with the Nats. Decent defender, not much for BA, but had some big hits/RBI's along the way. Going to be a fun ride, methinks.:wink2: -- Al

Jesus; 7 games out on April 14th, how is that possible?

Talk about laying an egg.

Between the underachieving Capitals, the underachieving Expos, the Redskins and their buffoonery and the Bullets, Washington is the black hole of sports.

I feel your pain Al..................

George, it's actually 'only' 6 games out. Reasons are the Mets are scorching hot and have only lost 1 game, and a classic job of underachieving by the Nats, to this point. We have 3 regulars out and 3 regulars hitting .208 or less (team BA is .227), so no runs being scored which equals 6 games out.:redface2: -- Al

Not an auspicious start for the O's Alex Cobb in Boston today. It took him 23 pitches to record the first out, by which time he already trailed 3-0. Impressive.:rolleyes2: -- Al

It's actually 7 out in the loss column.

The Nats come to NY next week. You hate to label any series in April as important but if the Mets can take 2 out of 3, they could make life very difficult for the Nats. Conversely, if the Nats can win 2 or sweep, then we have a race.

The situation reminds me of a series the Mets had with the Cards in April in 1986. Mets went into St. Louis and swept them and the race was over. We will see what happens next week.

All good things must come to an end eventually as it just did but tomorrow is another day.

I was at the Sox game today. The o’s looked like they just wanted to go home..... and so did I! It was freezing!

I went to the Bruins game instead; looks like we both had a good day/night, up two zip on the Maple Laughs.

I get it, the Giants are short on starting pitching. Somehow using six pitchers in a loss to San Diego doesn't seem like a solution.

Weather making a difference:

On Friday, when the weather was in the 70s, the attendance at CitiField was 34,000.

Yesterday, when it was over 80, the crowd was approximately 40,000.

Today, it’s 38 and I’d be surprised if the crowd is 10,000.

O's Bundy is now 0-2 with a 1.40 ERA in 4 starts. What's wrong with this picture? Answer...The O's offense can't hit squat! -- Al

...for that matter, the bleepin' Nats can't hit squat either. They are disaster with runners in scoring position. Something like 0-8 today alone. -- Al

Al:

I am right there with you. As much as I complain about the Giants' pitching their hitting isn't much better. They are 9th in team batting but 27th in runs.

Big series for the Nats in NY. As Brad has pointed out, you can't win a pennant in April, but you can lose one, and the Nats are close to that line right now. Nats biggest problem is their clutch hitting, as in, there isn't any. Nats are hitting .210 with runners in scoring position and have stranded 130 men on base through 16 games. That's right, 130. That's 8 men per game. Yet the Nats lead MLB in BB drawn with 80 and are in the Top 5 OBP. Go figure. Anyway, Nats need 2 of 3 or it could be panic button time before the 20 games played mark is even reached. -- Al

Weather wise, it's not a great night to play for either team. It's going to be in the mid 40 and going down. My sympathies to the players and the fans who attend.
