2018 Baseball season (4 Viewers)

Nats got the 2 of 3 in NY that we had to have to stay viable. Nats won one they should have lost (Mets bullpen meltdown), lost one they should have won (Nats bullpen meltdown), and just won one in a 'normal' game. So we'll take the series win and try to build on it in LA against the Dodgers and in SF against the Giants, which won't be easy in either case. -- Al

Scherzer vs. Kershaw tonight could be an epic pitching battle. They have combined to win five Cy Young Awards over the past six seasons.

I sure hope the Nats can hang in against Kershaw but the numbers say no. Kershaw is something like 10-0 in his last 10 starts against the Nats and Harper doesn't do well against him at all. Still, I look forward to the match-up. -- Al

Big win for the Nats as Mad Max outdueled Kershaw for a 5-2 win. Nats ambushed Kershaw in the 1st inning and had a 1-0 lead after 3 pitches and 2-0 by the end of the inning. In point of fact, the Nats have scored 25 of their 90 runs this season in the 1st inning. Even our iffy bullpen came through. Good win. -- Al

O's got another QS from Bundy, and actually scored him a few runs so that he could claim his first win, 3-1. -- Al

Great win. It helped the Giants pick-up a game on the Dodgers. ^&grin

Harvey to the bullpen. I'd cut him. He's done.
Maybe he just needs a new start elsewhere. Wonder how his mindset will be now that he has been put in the pen. His problems could be the result of 2015, when he was pushed so hard coming off TJ surgery. I really like him, so I hope he can hang in and get things straight. -- Al

In my opinion he’s done. His ERA in the last couple of years is around 6.

Hell of an effort tonight by A's pitcher Manila, Mombo, Manacana, YoMama, Manalanadingdong, some tomato can I wouldn't know if I fell over him throws a no no.

It's usually some scrub that does it too, never a Clemens, Pedro Martinez, Palmer, etc, etc, just some stooge who for one night pitches out of his backside.

I don't know why and I can't explain it, but for whatever reason, the Red Sox play like hot garbage in that abomination of a ballpark in Oakland, a place that has more foul ground than fair, right field seems like it's two football fields long and wide, a stadium that has some annoying clambrain banging on a trash barrel with two sticks incessantly for nine innings, imagine sitting it front of that escaped mental patient, I'd commit a homicide if it was me.

Just get out of that dump with another win tomorrow and move on.

The worst part about that stadium is the fact that San Jose investors have made multiple offers to buy the team and build them a privately funded, state of the art stadium in San Jose. The only thing that stands in their way is the fact that the Giants "own" the territorial rights to San Jose and the refuse to approve the deal.

Sounds similar to the battle between Baltimore and DC rights. O's and Nats still battling over cable TV profits, with the O's getting the lion's share as part of the deal to let the Nats come to DC. Been in court for years.:rolleyes2: -- Al

I keep hoping to see the Nats break out of their funk but I now realize it isn't going to happen until we get healthy. With 3 major offensive components out injured, Murphy, Eaton, and Rendon, there is just no consistency in the offense. Rendon is due back any time but the other 2 are still a ways off. Treading water in the area of .500 seems to be the best the Nats can hope for until then. The Nats also need to get the bullpen right, as it has been quite inconsistent, though not as bad as early last year, it still hasn't been what they were hoping for. It is still early but there are problems to be addressed. -- Al

You can't blame Cueto for the Giants' 9-12 start. He has a .35 era in 4 starts and teams are hitting .149 against him.

Don't worry, the Mets pen will keep you in the race.
Nats pen has 2 pitchers with an ERA under 5 and have blown 2 of their last 4 games, so...deja vu, it's 2017 all over again. Get past the Nats SP's and you win. :rolleyes2: -- Al

Fun with numbers: The O's are an atrocious 6-17 on the season. If you were to reverse that to a 17-6 record, the O's would still be behind the Red Sox, who at 17-4 have started unbelievably hot. As it is, the O's are 12 games out. That's a lot of games considering they have only played 23. {eek3} -- Al

Well Al, we had a nice little run, the O's had become a winning team just a few short years ago and even made a few playoffs. but that window has surely closed, the offense is embarrassing and when and if the pitching does well we can't score, the Homerun team of the last 5-6 years are just a Summers dream gone by, this is going to be a 100 + loss season so might as well break this team up now and start over with younger talent, Machado will bring a nice deal, as a few others. Back to the 90's we go!!!

The injuries to Trumbo and Schoop, and the slow start by Davis have surely hurt the O's. I also think moving Machado to SS and letting JJ Hardy and Flaherty go has damaged the defense. Machado is fine at SS but 3B is now a problem defensively. We finally get a SP rotation together that might actually be adequate and the hitting and defense have slumped, along with a slump by the usually solid bullpen, and we now have an impending disaster. Just bad timing. Be interesting to see if management waits out the slumps or if they decide to blow it all up and start over. -- Al

It had to happen. On May 7, 2017, Chris Tillman pitched his first game of the season and won it. Since then, he had gone 23 straight starts without a win, going 0-11 over the 2 seasons. Tonight, Tillman saved his job by pitching a 7 inning 1-hitter as the O's won 6-0. It was a beautiful game, and well overdue as the O's actually put together a good pitching job with some offense. Go figure. You gotta love baseball. Never know what you're going to get on any given night. Anyway, congrats, Chris, on your first win of 2018. May you have many more, as the O's need them. -- Al
