2018 Baseball season (2 Viewers)

Mets are getting roasted today (11-0 in the 7th) and no hit. What a complete joke. 4th place any day.

We’re making progress: 2 hits and we didn’t give up any more runs!

Vargas stunk again today and that idiot Harvey wasn’t any better.

Nats just completed their best series of their season with a 4 game sweep of the visiting Pirates. They reach the 1/5 of the season mark with a mighty .500 record, a grip on the NL East 4th place, and still no Eaton, Murphy, or Rendon in sight. Still, a 5 game winning streak to reach .500 is better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. -- Al

Harvey needs a change of scenery. I think he is finished with the Mets. Maybe it's attitude, maybe it's work ethic, maybe it's injuries, but whatever it is he needs to go elsewhere. A new location might show if there is anything to salvage for him. -- Al

He was booed off the field today. His ERA in the pen is 10.50. He should be released or sent to the minors.

Once the Nats get healthy they are going to be even more dangerous.

Murphy's return is still a ways off. He is still not running well. Rendon is about to begin a rehab assignment, so he is a lot closer to coming back. Can't be too soon. :wink2: -- Al

As is the history of former O's pitchers, 2 former O's pitching disasters, Jeremy Hellickson and Wade Miley, are in the process of revitalizing their careers with their new teams. Hellickson is now the Nats #5 starter and has done a fine job in 4 starts, keeping the Nats in all 4 games with an ERA of 3.00 over 21 innings. Miley just got his first start with the Brewers and turned in a QS while allowing 1 run and getting the win. Maybe a bit early to declare them reborn but there is a vast improvement from their time with the O's where Hellickson went 2-6 with a 6.97 ERA and Miley went 10-20 with a 5.75 ERA over 1 1/2 seasons. -- Al

Mets have DFA’ed Harvey. So ends what once looked like a promising career, but cut short by injury and irresponsibility.

That is really too bad. I liked him, despite his problems. Hopefully he can catch on elsewhere and rebuild his career. ESPN says he refused a minor league assignment, leaving the Mets no choice. -- Al

In 2015, he exceeded the innings limit recommended by the Drs. and I think that hurt him. He was never the same after that. Today, the Mets brass met with him and explained how going to the minors could help him (they pointed out other pitchers who had done that and made successful returns to the majors) but Harvey, in all his stupidity, refused. Perhaps he will re-think his decision; he certainly needs a wake up call.

I well remember the controversy about the innings limit. The Nats took all sorts of flak for shutting Strasburg down the year after his surgery, even with the team being in a pennant race. Nats stuck to their guns, shut Stras down around 150 innings, and it cost them in the post-season, but Stras has been fine and is still going great guns. Harvey was pushed too far after his surgery, again during a pennant race and on into the post-season, where he helped the Mets to the WS. Problem is, he has never been the same. Thus the age old question, go for it when the opportunity presents itself, consequences be da**ed, or hold back and take a shot next time. I'm not sure which is right in terms of club success, but the consequences for the player is obvious. I hope Harvey can make it back. -- Al

Harvey is Exhibit A for how not to recover from TJ surgery.

Albert made history tonight: hit number 3,000. A great moment.

After 2 games with Harper batting leadoff (for the first times since 2013), the results are positive but unlikely to be a permanent fix to the problem of Harper being pitched around. Harper will move back to his #3 spot, just a question of when. Currently, Harper has no protection at #3, with Murphy and Rendon out, and Zimmerman not hitting. Harper is seeing nothing to hit at #3, the lowest percentage of strikes in baseball, plus the highest number of walks (39 in 31 games), so the move was to get him some pitches to hit and maybe jump-start him and the offense. In the 2 games at leadoff, Harper is 4-8 (1 BB), with 2 Hr's and 6 RBI's, with the Nats scoring 21 runs. Big improvement but just not a permanent solution. Right now, it is working and that's all that counts. The Nats need the runs and the wins. -- Al
The great Harper Leads Off experiment is still paying dividends. He now has 4 Hr's and 9 RBI's in the 4 games he has lead off. Fun ride, but things will go back to normal pretty soon as Rendon is close to returning, possibly this weekend. -- Ak

O's have reached the 20% point of the season with a record of 8-24. Simple math indicates a 120 loss season. Are they really that bad? Right now, yes. I don't think it will stay as bad as it presently looks, though. I think there is a great chance that guys like Davis, Jones, and Trumbo will start hitting, eventually, and that the return of Schoop will also help. The SP seems to be alright, with the exception of Tillman (gotta be all but finished with him), and possibly Cobb, who joined the team without spring training and is showing signs of coming around. The real concern is the bullpen, which in the past several years has been outstanding, but is currently going through a down season for such important pieces like Brach, Givens, and even O'Day to an extent. Bleir has been the one real bright spot. There have been only 6 games where the bullpen hasn't allowed a run. That has to improve and maybe can when Britton can get back on the field. The O's have also struggled on defense, another former outstanding aspect of former teams, but this year has fallen off. All in all, the O's are not going to be contenders, what with having with so many problems to solve, but some of the problems can be solved (or at least improved on) and the O's should be able to avoid 100 losses, if they can find a solution early enough. -- Al

Al, your optimism is to be commended!!! I on the other hand do not want a 14 year losing streak, break this team up yesterday, take our lumps, worst record ever!! And rebuild through the draft and what ever we can get for the few high priced guys we have.

I’m sure they will win more than 40. No one ever gets close to the 1962 Mets. That single honor belongs to them.
