On the West Coast I just keep hoping that the Giants will continue to hang in there. Bumgarner's return is immennt and I think that may turn the tide for SF (fingers crossed!)
Tough loss for the O's last night as Oakland won 2-0 in 12 innings. Gausman pitched the game of his life, going 9, allowing 2 hits and 0 runs. Shame he and the O's got nothing out of it. Well, not exactly true...the O's got loss #25 and are now 16 games out.:rolleyes2: -- AlAt this rate, all bets are off...![]()

Interesting note about the O's game last night, the O's had a total of 7 hits but the big number were their strikeouts...20! O's batters fanned 20 times as every starter fanned, most 2 or 3 times. Every starter but one, that is. The one starter that didn't fan was Trumbo, who went 2-5. Go figure. Trumbo had fanned 5 times in 16 at bats since his recent return from the DL, but not last night. -- AlTough loss for the O's last night as Oakland won 2-0 in 12 innings. The NL East has gotten a LOT tighter over the last week.
Are either the Red Sox or NYY's ever going to lose again?
Looking at the O's patchwork OF today (Gentry, Peterson, and Santander, hardly household names), I sure wish the O's had kept Markakis (and I'm sure they do too). At least they could have put a good outfield together with Jones and Mancini. Sure miss ya, Nick.
The AL Central is a garbage dump, so far.
The Cubs, Dodgers, and Nats (pre-season favs), are all still stumbling along, all in 4th place in their respective divisions, although the Cubs and Nats are only a couple of games back.
I'm beginning to think the O's aren't going to make the post-season. -- Al
George, I didn't realize you were such an optimist, giving the O's to Memorial Day.:rolleyes2: The O's are playing so poorly, the elimination day could be a lot sooner. They are now 8-26, tied for worst in the MLB (worst in the AL). They have played 11 series so far. Results: 2-9; in the 9 series losses, they have been swept 6 times; they are 5-2 in the 2 series they have won and 3-24 in the 9 series they have lost. They are also a MLB worst 3-16 on the road (the 3 wins came in the NY series). They just got swept in Oakland where they gave up only 4 runs over the last 2 games (21 innings) and 10 total over the 30 innings but only scored 5 total. Pitiful. Sammy might be right. The 1962 Mets record of 40-120 might be in jeopardy. I don't think that even these O's can threaten the all-time record for futility, the 1899 Cleveland Spiders's record of 20-134 (with a neg. 723 run differential). Now THAT was a bad ballteam.^&grin -- AlCan't tell you how heartwarming it is to see the MFY's cranking along, they've ripped off another 6 in a row. They're either beating teams 92-0 or they're pulling games out of their *****, how many games have they won in the bottom of the ninth inning now, about 14?
Some tomato can I've never heard of hit a 3 run walk off home run vs the Indians today; some new kid from their farm system that is so loaded they should just move their AAA team up to the majors and send the Padres down instead.
Remind me not to watch the three game series starting on Tuesday..................................the LET'S GO O'S!! will be mathematically eliminated by Memorial day at the rate they're going, what a tire fire...............................

Don't forget Marvelous Marv. I was fond of Roger Craig, a decent pitcher who went from the Dodgers to the Mets and Jay Hook, who lasted 8 years in the majors, somehow. I had also forgotten that former NYY and O's player Gene Woodling was on that fabled team. Despite his record, Al Jackson wasn't horrible. He was a mainstay on those early Mets teams. The O's do have some great talent, but also a lot of so-so talent. 60 wins isn't a bad bet. -- AlLots of teams have approached the Mets record of futility but by the time the All Star break rolls around, they've managed to navigate away from those reefs. In addition, the Mets had some players on their last legs like Richie Ashburn, Gil Hodges and Don Zimmer and other players who made their marks like Craig Anderson and Vinegar Bend Mizell. Of course, we had other players who are beloved by Mets fans like Eddie Kranepool, Al Jackson, Galen Cisco and Choo Choo Coleman.
The Orioles have much more talent than those Mets. They're probably good for 60 wins.

Sammy, this is getting ridiculous. The O's have Bundy going against a bad KC team tonight, the Royals are 6 batters into the game and lead 4-0! Bundy allowed a lead-off single, then back-to-back-to-back Hr's, and then 2 walks. Bundy is 27 pitches in with no outs recorded yet. What is going on? What has happened to Bundy? OMG! As I write this, Bundy just gave up his 4th Hr of the game, a 3-run bomb. It is now 7-0 and Bundy is gone after 28 pitches, 7 earned runs, and NO recorded outs! This is pitiful. This season was down the Archie Bunker "Terlet" before it began!!!! Break up my O's, I can live with losing with young talent, triple A guys etc. But this team is just awful and hurts me to watch.
Top of the 1st is finally over. Royals lead 10-0 on 9 hits as the O's relief pitcher gave up 3 more runs on 4 more hits. UNBELIEVABLE!Sammy, this is getting ridiculous. P.S. - I'm going to assume that Bundy must be hurt and not saying anything, after the disaster of his last 3 starts.:rolleyes2:
