2018 Baseball season (2 Viewers)

O's lose again (I know, shock o' the day) and are now 23-59. Their big problem is an inability to score, even more than the usual pitching problems. 82 games into the season and the O's have scored 2 or fewer runs in 36 of their games. One might reasonably expect to win a certain percentage of those games but to lose a larger percentage. The O's are 4-32 in those games. They are certainly holding up the losing end of that percentage.:rolleyes2: -- Al

The Giants finished 18-10 in June, my optimism is tempered but strong. They are still not 100% healthy so more wins could be on the horizon.

MLB seasons are so long, what seems inevitable can disappear in the mix of a never-ending season. However a Giants Boston World Series doesn't seem so bad.....

How low can you go? O's are 1-17 in their last 18 HOME games. Embarrassing, to say the least. -- Al

Happy Bobby Bonilla Day! The Mets annual $1.19 million payment to Bonilla is made today and every July 1 through 2035. The gift that keeps on giving.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Former O's outfielder NIck Markakis continues his career year run in Atlanta. The 13 year vet is on pace to set career highs in BA., hits, doubles, RBI's, and will come close on Hr's. Maybe he will finally make the All-Star team.:wink2: Bet he's glad that he is out of B-more, but I miss him. -- Al

Nats finished a disaster of a June with a 9-16 record, going from a first place tie with Atlanta to 5 games out and in 3rd place in the course of the month. Inconsistency will kill you. Davey Martinez seems overmatched as manager. Stil don't know what the Lerner's were thinking by canning Baker and bringing in a rookie manager for a team set to make a run at the playoffs. A pennant race is nowhere for a rookie manager with a learning curve. Nats aren't dead by any means, but they sure aren't playing like predicted or living up to expectations. They are really on my nerves.:rolleyes2: -- Al

I could probably use part of your post for the Mets manager. They had a 5-26 June, the worst in their history and that’s saying something since we’ve had some pretty bad teams over the years. The players seem to have given up. One thing you could say about Terry Collins’ teams is that they played hard for him even when they were overmatched. Callaway needs to be dismissed and a caretaker manager brought in for the rest of the season. It’s one thing to play hard and try and lose and quite another to not try.

Sorry for all my posts today, but I have been busy reading and catching up on some obscure baseball related things. O's and their record setting pace of disaster are of particular interest. Another milestone for the O's this season...they are the first team in MLB history to go winless in a given month against the teams in their league. The O's were winless in June (0-15) against the AL. They were 6-4 against the NL in June, thus their 6-19 record for the month. History everywhere!
Between the O's going 6-19 and the Nats going 9-16, June has been a really lousy month for me. Glad to see it go.{sm2} -- Al

Al:

No apologies necessary. I like to think of this thread as part discussion and part therapy.

We've all been there as baseball fans. I think I mentioned that one year in the early 80's the Giants TV commercial theme was a song that said, "C'mon Giants, hang in there". Another year they literally touted the teams they were playing as they had no stars of their own.

The O's and Nats will be great again, it is just a matter of time.

True enough, Jason. It's just that sometimes the 'matter of time' part takes a really long time (refer to the Chicago Cubs here) and we ain't getting any younger.:wink2:^&grin -- Al

Price and the Yankees are like oil and water. They don't mix.

Great point, although I must admit, as much as I want the Giants to win every year the true joy for me is simply watching them play, be it regular season or the playoffs.

It is only July 1 and I think the Nats will still make the playoffs. The O's on the other hand will be interesting once we get to the trade deadline. ^&grin

Appreciate the confidence in the Nats, Jason, but you are more optimistic than I am at this juncture. I've watched them in their headlong rush to .500 and mediocrity over the last month and it is dispiriting. No part of the game is working for them right now. The starting rotation is Scherzer all by himself as Strasburg is still on the DL, Gonzalez and Roark are simply bad right now, and the 5th spot has been a total loss without Hellickson (he has just returned from the DL). Middle relief remains hit or miss and the offense has been MIA since late April, and none of it shows any sign of immanent recovery. Add in the clown show that the Nats are on the base paths and the formula for season-long disappointment is in place. I will hope for the best, a return to good baseball and the race, but I am not holding my breath with all the problems that need to be addressed. -- Al

Nope, not at all.

The Red Sox got demolished twice in this series, last night the Gashouse Gorillas hit FIVE home runs, the game was over after the first inning.

Sherman Klump is lights out vs the Red Sox, he throws nothing but meatballs that wouldn't break a pane of glass, yet they look like a ball in tall grass, ie, totally lost vs that whale. Severino too; he's also lights out vs the Red Sox, only that tomato can Sonny Gray looks beatable.

Nice that the Red Sox are doing so well this year, but they'll have no shot vs either the Gashouse Gorillas or the AAAstros come playoff time.

The Gashouse Gorillas are going to add another very good arm come the trade deadline thanks to their stacked Minor League system, it will be up to the AAAstros to outpitch them in the ALCS.

I stand by my comments that the Gashouse Gorillas are poised to go another of those mid 1990's to mid 2,000's runs, probably 6 or 7 trips to the WS, 5 or so wins to add to their total...………..what's it up to now Louis, 27, right?

Yeah, effing great, might as well go for 30 or more, why not?

So he can perplex those palookas with his patented pachydermas percussion pitch?

You are hysterical George!{sm4}

Red Sox beat the National and Scherzer last night 4-3 thanks to a bases clearing double by Rick Porcello.

Wow.

Harper hit a ball nine miles, but it wasn't enough; he's hitting about .220 this year, just brutal going into free agency.

Don't worry MFY fans; he'll sign a team friendly deal and hit .350/47/127 and you'll have an outfield of Mongo/Harper/Quasimodo, hitting 200 home runs between the three of them...………………………….

I see Brian Johnson is SP for the Red Sox tonight. I wonder why he retired as lead singer for AC/DC just to become a pitcher for Boston, and why would Boston want a 70 year old rock and roll singer on their roster? Baseball can be really strange.:wink2: -- Al

Nice; worse yet, he pitches just like our Brian Johnson...……………..if they win tonight, it will be a bullpen victory, he sucks.

I read today that the Nats are talking to the Reds about Harvey.
