2018 Baseball season (1 Viewer)

The Giants lost last night to the Rockies and in the game Bumgarner's 22 inning scoreless streak ended. When asked about it he said:

“I don’t give two ***** about any streak. It’s about winning games. This was a tough loss. Everything was going our way. It didn’t go our way later.”

This is why he is my favorite Giant.

I read today that the Nats are talking to the Reds about Harvey.
Haven't heard that one, but if Harvey of his last 2 starts is real, he could help us. Actually, we could use all sorts of help.:redface2: -- Al

Al:

Agreed, if he keeps pitching the way he has recently I would take him too.

Maybe he just needed a change of scenery and some time to adjust.

The Nats have achieved what apparently has been their goal since the end of May. Losing to the Red Sox tonight, they have now gone 9-20 since May 30, being shutout 7 times, losing 6 1-run games and 7 2-run games, and have now reached 42-42 on the season, a brilliant .500 record! I'm so proud.:rolleyes2: Time to start firing people, trading everyone, sell the franchise, and sneak the heck out of town. If there is a bigger bust in baseball this season, I don't know who it is. -- Al

A bigger bust? It’s called the NY bleeping Mets, not that we were going to contend for the division but I thought we might be in the hunt for a WC. The only thing we’re in the hunt for is a good draft pick.

Nats shutout again, 3-0 by the Red Sox. Shutout 8 times in the last 30 games. We just suck right now. -- Al

Question; what is a Higashakawa?
Answer; the newest annoying pain in the *** to pop up like a pimple on the *** of humanity and become a member of the MFY's

This ******* has THREE hits in his MLB career and all three are home runs.

Honest to Christ, I give up.

Is there any doubt the Red Sox will be up 2 games with three to play, the MFY's will come into Boston and led by Sherman Klump, Quasimodo and Mongo, sweep the Red Sox, win the AL East and the Red Sox will end up playing Seattle in the one game playoff with the winner getting the task of playing the MFY's.

Can't wait.

Things can always be worse, unless you are a fan of the Royals.

They have a run differential of -166. -166? And I thought the Giants were bad at -22.

I can really pick them. I follow 2 teams, the Nats and the O's. Nats were expected to contend in a big way, the O's, not so much, but weren't expected to be as bad as they have been. Anyway, it's been a bad month around my house. In their last 30 games, the Nats are 9-21, and as bad as that is, the O's surpassed it, going 7-23 in their last 30. Talk about a June swoon...:rolleyes2: -- Al

You'd probably enjoy John Sterling's HR call:

"Higashioka, the home run stroker!"

Only to be topped by:

"It's Gleyber day!"

I see the Nats and Marlins were involved in a real pitcher’s duel tonight.

Yeah.:rolleyes2: Nats spotted the Marlins a 9-0 lead before they ran them down and won 14-12. Our SP is a shambles right now. Hellickson's balloon has burst. He gave up 11 ER's in his 9 starts before going on the DL for almost a month and has given up 11 ER's in the 2 starts since coming back. Nats currently have one effective SP, Scherzer. Going to be tough catching the Phillies or Braves with that kind of problem. -- Al

That reminds me of a Mets game against the Phillies in 1990. They had a 8 run lead but the Phillies caught up, almost won it. The game is legend because of how the late great Bob Murphy called it. Here’s Murph’s call on the final out:

“Line drive...it's caught! It's over. They win. The Mets win the ballgame. They win the d@mn thing by a score of 10-9."

Murphy never cursed so this was unusual and every Mets fan worth his salt know this call. Legendary.

As local sports news said here:

The Redskins came back to beat the Dolphins with a two point conversion.

Sometimes, these kinds of games can act as a spearhead and get you going.

We Nats fans certainly hope so. Problem has been that we have had a couple of these 'turnaround' games this season and it hasn't made any difference, so far. Anyway, unless the SP rotation does a 180, we're going nowhere. -- Al

The Giants have followed up their inspiring 18-10 June with a 1-4 start to July.

Cueto returned last night from the DL and was promptly shelled by a decent Cardinals team. I hope that it was simply rust and not a sign that he has not fully recovered from his injury.

Glad to see that former Nats and current Detroit Tiger pitcher Jordan Zimmermann seems to finally found his groove. Since going to Detroit via FA after the 2015 season, the former Nat ace has had health issues and has been largely ineffective. He started out 2018 the same way and then hit the DL in May. Since coming off the DL in mid-June he has gone 2-0, allowing only 5 ER's in 25 innings over 4 starts. A small sample size, it is true, but all his stats have shown remarkable improvement, especially as his once formidable control seems to have returned. He has walked only one man in these 25 innings, while fanning 24. I hope his current trend of success continues. -- Al

The O's have been chasing the infamous 1988 Orioles all season and with last night's loss to Seattle, they have finally done it. At the 79 game mark, the 2018 O's are 23-56, now one game behind the 1988 O's mark of 24-55. The '88 O's started with the famous 21 game losing streak, finishing the year 54-107. The current O's have been skidding downwards all season and have finally fallen behind the '88 team in futility. The '88 O's went 30-52 from this point on, but with their continuing downwards trend, it will be a struggle for the current team to match this record. If they don't win at least the 31 games needed to tie the '88 teams final record, the 2018 O's will be proud owners of the worst record by an Orioles team since the move from St. Louis in 1954. The franchise history goes back to 1901 and in all those years, only 2 teams, the 1937 St. Louis Browns with 108 losses, and the 1939 Browns with 111 losses, have exceeded the 1988 O's 107 losses. We could be watching history being made. Oh joy.:rolleyes2: -- Al
P.S. - The 1988 O's finished 34.5 games back. The 2018 O's are currently 30 games back. More history?
The 2018 O's date with destiny, ie., the mark of Worst O's Team Ever, is on schedule, and even a bit ahead. After last night's latest loss, 5-4 to the Twins, the O's are 24-64 at the 88 game mark. They have now fallen behind the 1988 O's mark at the same point (29-59) by a full 5 games. With 74 games left, the 2018 O's are now faced with the task of going 31-43 to avoid the infamous 'Worst Team' title. Sure seems likely that the 2018 O's are going to make some history in Baltimore.
The O's have also now scored 2 or fewer runs in 39 of 88 games and are 4-35 in those games. I'm thinking 46-116 is a possible finish here. Jeesh. -- Al

Speaking of the LET'S GO O'S!!, I read a report that it looks like the Brewers, Dodgers and Indians are all in on Machado. Also, the GM and manager are likely goners at the end of the year. The same article said the team is hamstrung for a long time with that Davis contract, so Britton and Jones are likely to be dealt, probably Dumbo too.

Their minor league system is a tire fire, so whoever they get in return for their stars had better be good or else they could be in the cellar for a long time.

Oof………….
